So it took him a few seasons to figure out that the same assistants that allowed him to win at previous stops couldn't do so here, and this was further complicated by the fact that he didn't have a talented enough team either? OK. He fixed the talent, then was still not winning, so now he's fixing the coaching. That may or may not fix it, but I don't think I would quite as critical of sticking with the guys that got it done before. He's clearly learning and changing. Whether he ever wins at the level we all hope remains to be seen, but some of the criticisms are kinda stupid.

so who is CBS Sports columnist Dennis Dodd and what type of crack or white china is he snorting or smoking to think Butch is a realistic choice for the next Ole Miss coach? He is third on his list.... unless the bottom falls out and we go 5-7, we will have coach crew cut for a couple more years. He thinks just because he now has Jimmy Sexton as his agent, he can do what he wants. The crazy season is upon us....

Mike Griffith expressed a view a week or two ago on the SEC Country Podcast that Butch has been able to upgrade his staff because of how much success he's had lately. He implied Butch had a harder time hiring when he first got here because of how bad of shape Tennessee was in. It wasn't attractive to assistant coaches.

Not sure how accurate that is, but it seems plausible.

Just Sexton trying to angle Butch an extension and raise prior to the season starting by putting pressure on AD Currie early in his tenure. Nothing to see here.

I can buy that. He took over a mess and was a public unknown working a long rebuild job at a school most probably gave him 3 yrs tops at. Now they see his floor is pretty high but he needs help reaching that next level. A lot easier to think your that one guy to get himenover the hump from 8-9 to 10-11 wins instead of 5-6 to 8-9

Maybe he shoulda asked more questions at the interview. Hopefully his experience with this issue continues...

I didn't mean it in that bad of way. He may have just came in expecting to not have to work for his spot or to be named a starter immediately. I didn't mean he won't work for his spot. Maybe just had to be reminded spots are earned

Strong argument can be made for John Henderson imo. His junior year was about as good as Suh's senior year. Outland award, 2 time all-American, 2 time First team SEC.

Although idk he would be allowed since he started in the 90's.
