Curry is a fine shooter, but can someone please get him to stop the goofy mouth guard chewing? Also the Warriors would be a much more likeable team without Green.

Lol! Agreed about Green. The Steph mouthguard thing is annoying, but the worst thing I saw last night in regards to a mouthguard was when Lebron came out, he took his mouthpiece and put it in his knee pad! Then put it back in when he came back to play

I think comparing Durant going to a Golden State team that would have been favored to win the Finals even without him is worlds different then Lebron joining Wade and Bosh in Miami.

But then again, that's just my opinion.

I saw that all the time when I played rugby. Guys will stick there mouthguard in their socks, scrum cap, undershirt, jersey and even roll it up in the bottom of their compression shorts. Can't have pockets in rugby shorts so put it where you can is what they all said.

Good article from Rob Lewis with quotes from Shoop about the DL up on VQ...

“It’s like I’ve said before. I think he came in to unrealistic expectations. That’s what I think. Without question, he’s an exceptionally talented individual who we just threw in there and (people) were like, ‘Oh God, we got this guy. He’s the greatest player to come down the pike,’” Shoop said of Kongbo’s first year. “I think it was just unfair for him. From bowl preparation, through the winter program, through spring ball, he’s just grown up. He’s a good kid. He’s smart. He comes from a good family. He’s matured tremendously and I think he’s very, very driven and very determined to do well this year. That’s what I believe.”

“Deandre Johnson is an early enrollee who had a good spring and learned the package. I think we can get a four-way rotation at end with Kongbo, Phillips, Taylor and whether it be Deandre or someone else,” Shoop said. “Probably the guy who’s the most ready for the 2017 season as a rookie is the Butler kid, Matthew Butler. He’s kind of come in on a mission. He’s very mature, very driven. It’s not in his mindset to redshirt. That’s not part of his vocabulary. He wants to compete with these guys and see what happens,” Shoop shared. “When he introduced himself to the team the other day he said, ‘My name’s Matt Butler, I can play anywhere on the defensive line.’ The guys kind of busted his chops for that but that’s his mindset. That’s how he is. He’s really a great kid.”

“I think Bennett and Thaxton are probably not as ready-made as Butler, along with Crosby. Crosby is probably a redshirt candidate. He probably needs to lose a little bit of weight to put himself in position to play at this level,” Shoop shared.

“With Bennett, you’re talking about bloodlines, he’s the son of one of the top SEC players of all time and a great NFL player. Football is important to him. He comes from a great program. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him compete (this year). He fits the job description of what we’re looking as an inside player at the three-technique. It’s just about experience, the speed of the game and the size of the players.”

It will definitely be a ‘new-look’ defensive front this fall without the presence of Barnett on the edge, but clearly Shoop isn’t conceding that it’s going to be a less productive unit.

It's just funny how people try to pick it apart to kill Durant and praise Lebron. It was still a super team. Lebron joined a super team, then he came back to Cleveland and formed another. It's just the truth. Durant did the same thing. Is his super team better than Lebron's? Yes, but it is still a super team that Lebron joined in Miami that led to championships, and still a super team that he put together in Cleveland. I'll be curious to see if Lebron stays in Cleveland after they get swept tomorrow night. Wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to go somewhere else, or trying to get some other great player to come join him in Cleveland.

My man Butler.

Really though, we need to see if Shoop is legit. I understand he had all those injuries, but even before the injuries, our defense was not on the way to being a top 25 defense I don't believe. We all believed he was coming in to do what he had done at Penn State with less talent, leading the nation in sacks, top 10 in the country in total defense, and we struggled right out of the gate. I really want to see if Shoop really is the defensive mastermind he was praised to be and paid to be. I hope so, because if he is, we could be special, in spite of the talent we lost on defense.

Yeah, but if Lebron joined/created a super team then Durant has created an Ultra team.

This Golden State ram would most likely be favored in a 7-game series versus any previous champion.

Definitely different, but still close to equal, IMO. Durant joined a superteam, Lebron created a superteam. Either way Durant and Lebron both teamed up with 3 other all star players each.

Durant has Steph, Green, and Thompson.

Lebron had D.Wade, Bosh, and Ray Allen.

We can argue role players and their impact but the cores of both teams are very similar.

Possibly, no denying they are great. It's just pathetic how people criticize Durant but give Lebron a complete pass for doing the same thing.

Why do you think he got a pass? When he first left for Miami he got the same treatment that KD did. Burning jerseys, talking heads calling him soft, etc. Same treatment, Lebron is just 5 years removed from it so you don't hear about it as much now.

True, I guess I'm thinking more of how they talk about it now, not then.

Ray Allen wasn't a superstar or even star level player when he joined the Heat.

Durant joined a team that has the 3rd best, ~8th best, and ~15th best players in the league. The Miami team Lebron joined had an injury riddled ~7th best player and the ~14th best player. Ray Allen was probably somewhere in the 30-40th best player range at that point.

I don't mind the off topic sports chatter in here (I actually quite enjoy reading the back and forth discussion) but I was thinking maybe creating a sports related off topic thread for off topic sports discussion only (finals, Stanley cup, baseball lol, tiger woods dui, etc.)

Thoughts?

Please do

Ray Allen is 10x all star who averaged double digits while with the Heat and Lebron would have one less championship if it wasn't for his shooting ability. He was a big piece to their puzzle for 2 years, even with his injuries he was having. Really the biggest thing in my mind on why Durant's situation was slightly worse is because the Warriors are young and can sustain this for the next 4-5 years easy. Otherwise its pretty close to equal, IMO.

Ray Allen joined the Heat after the Celtics disassembled. He was a clutch playoff performer every year and the Heat added him because of it.

Now that NBA talk is over, who do folks think are our best two chances are at RB for this upcoming class?

Grant?
Joiner?
Salahuddin?

I am with you on this one.

Adjustments have been great in game when healthy but how about we start off strong too.

I think in every game that mattered we went down at least 0-14 early.

Yeah, Allen was clutch and a big role-player for the Heat. He was also very much so on the downhill portion of his career and thusly wasn't a top-20 caliber player anymore. The Celtics bust up their big-3 for that very reason.

Allen is also one of only two players I am 100% certain will be a first ballot HoF from that Heat team.

Lebron got destroyed for leaving Cleveland. Part of that was definitely because of the show he put on in "The Decision", which came off a lot worse than he thought it would. Plus the intro-party they had in Miami was ridiculous. "Not 3, not 4, not 5, etc..." But he joined the 5th-best team in the East that had just lost in the 1st round in 2010. Granted, he and Bosh joining Wade made it a super-team, no question. But it's not even the same level as what Durant did this past year in free agency.

The reason I don't like Durant going to GSW is the fact that he joined a 73-win team that he should've closed out in the playoffs that season. Joining a team that had an argument at being one of the greatest of all-time took what Lebron did to another level. This team is unguardable on offense, and are certainly quite stout on defense. FTR, I think this team could beat any of Jordan's in a 7-gamer, and I still think Jordan is GOAT.

Dixon and TBD.

It would be cool if Teague was the TBD RB, but can't get a feel on him. I expect for new RB's to be identified during the season.

It took it to another level, but if Lebron could've got KD to Cleveland, he would've paid him himself! Imo. Lebron will try something to beat this team after tomorrow night imo. He'll either go to another team, or he'll try to find another guy to bring in
