Regarding an extension?

I don't get how most here want to spend whatever it takes to get the right coach but want to be stingy with $ when it comes to extensions. I say spend the money to keep recruiting going and make a coaching change when it's needed. You get what you pay for and making sure our roster doesn't take a step backward is worth paying for.

Because many have seen the light that you don't extend the wrong coach.

I don't care about extensions. If that's what you're discussing, never mind.

He is talking about firing/hiring a new coach.

If Butch wins enough to warrant an extension then they will give it to him.

He is getting fired or extended this year. One or the other.

LWS said last season Butch was working backchannels last year and had a job lined up until we lost to Vanderbilt and his stock fell through the floor. Something tells me it was Notre Dame.

UNC was one don't know about others It was pending Fedora getting Oregon/Baylor jobs particularly Oregon. Fedora/UNC got embarrassed by NC St. UNC AD had Butch lined up as his #1. Was told during Vandy week Butch would take it. I wasn't suprised we lost to Vandy as he was too busy planning a potential exit. Then both Fedora and Butch crapped the bed. All this to say that Butch very well could have been playing the extension game and never went anywhere when it came down to it as several coaches do this

Agree with one exception. 7-5 wouldn't be deserving an extension but I would still give it to him.

Interesting. Could see this same scenario playing out with West Virginia this go around.

Before the season started, I proposed we put a sticky at the top of the recruiting forum that made clear what the preseason expectations were. I think it was near unanimous in the media that we were an 8-4 type team. I had a feeling as the 8-4 season actually played out, our fans would start revising up the expectations to say we were supposed to be better. Reality is, most people thought we'd be pretty bad this year.

To me it's not so much how many you win/lose but how you win/lose that determine whether a season is successful At 8-4 with a 9th win in bowl.

If you are in knock down battle royals and just happened to lose to another team making the better plays is different than some of the ways Butch ends up 8-4 etc. that is what hurts him. typicslly ends up being some major coaching blunder

How much would you pay the next coach?

Whatever amount is impervious to your silly argument that we should keep paying a mediocre coach just to.

The college football calendar is set up so that there is no good time to make a coaching change unless you have it set up like Stoops and Oklahoma did. You have to take some medicine. I think that is perfectly acceptable.

You were exactly right.

So 7-5 is the end?j

What about 8-4?

Depends. I've never thought he was completely safe at 8-4. Got blasted for saying that back in March. The coaching I've seen this year has done nothing to make me feel better about the future.

I think his window of opportunity here is closing fast. Very hard to see this team going 8-4. We just crapped our pants against an awful Florida team. Nothing new though. We've let it run down our leg 3 of the last 4 years against them.

My stance here at least in my thinking is no different than others saying we need to up our commitment to winning with our pocket book. Extended Butch would only help in recruiting which in turn would help the next coach if a change is made. It's only money anyway. That's the only thing at stake with an extension anyway and if we are going to pay the next guy 6mil anyway let's jump in with both feet.

So you are on the fence about 8-4 but would extend him if the decision was to bring him back?

Nobody is suggesting we keep Butch without extending him. What are you talking about?

Extend or fire. That's the options for UTAD in regards to CBJ.
