First SEC road game for QD and a lot of the receivers and they had execution problems all throughout camp supposedly and so far this year. I am ok with taking a shot, but 7 times out 7 inside their 10 yard line we go with the unit that has been most inconsistent so far this year? Just doesn't seem like good coaching, IMO.
Pick 6 wasn't a drop. It was a bad throw caused at least partially by the QB being hit, that could have been caught but would've been a great catch.
Would you rather:
A. Put the game in a shaky QB and freshman WR hands?
Or
B. Put the game in the hands of your stud RB who has been crushing the soul of the D?
The pass plays MAY have been good calls if we have Montana and Rice, but we had a QB in his third start and inexperienced WRs
Those are factors that have to be accounted for. As well as clock management, knowing that our D is stuffing them.
The pick in goal to go and the pick 6 changed the whole game. It isn't a good play call if you don't have the right players to execute.
Put. The. Ball. In. John. Freaking. Kelly's. Hands.
Fair enough, and of course hindsight proves you guys right. I just think we're having a very different conversation if we catch even one of those.
Tbh at the time, I was surprised and a little happy at the trust shown in Dormady in those situations, and the move away from ultra-conservativeness Butch has shown in the past. It just didn't work out this time... I'm just confused that some of the Butch bashers can't see that it very easily could have worked out, even if he coached the game the exact same way.
