I'm hitting liquor store tomorrow for hurricane. Any entry level brand I should hit up?

Honestly the selection isn't great at most liquor stores back in the states unless theres a pocket of japanese customers nearby requesting them to stock the good stuff. A lot of the stuff you find on shelves in liquor stores in the states isn't even made in Japan.

That may not sound like a big deal, but generally the places that make the best sake are places ones that grow the highest quality Japanese rice. And Japan often doesn't export their best rices (and when they do, they often charge out the yazoo for grorious nippon raisu). So a lot of stuff you find in American liquor stores (Takara is a notable one, though they do import some procuts from their Japanese branches) are actually made in California with American rice. The geography of most parts of California just isn't right to get rice that comes out close enough to the Japanese stuff for their products to taste the same.

That being said, if you can find any Hakkaisan Junmai Ginjo, buy all they've got on the shelves. It sells for about $20 a bottle over here, but sometimes you can find chumps online in the US who will pay $75+ for it because it's a little hard to find in the states.

You should probably stay away from anything with "Nigori" written on the label though. It's the cloudy unfiltered kind and sometimes is a bit of an acquired taste.

Thanks and goodnight Vol nation.

I do think there is a chance we don't play UF next week or it's relocated.

But I wouldn't call it a lock.

I really like sake. Only had the Gekkeikan brand though, which I'm assuming is pretty low tier. I'm thinking about making some at some point since I already make beer

They make some alright sakes too. But I'm not really a fan of many sake brands based in Kansai (they make some good whiskey out there, though). The best ones come from rice country in the East/Northeast part of the country, IMO. Niigata, Fukushima, Akita, Aomori, etc.

I've toured a few breweries but I've never really seen a microbrew setup. Would definitely be interesting to try.

I could see it being relocated; I'm not sure how you reschedule it. Rescheduling looks very complicated. Relocating is pretty simple and the commissioner now has the power to dictate if the schools can't resolve the issue on their own.

“The membership voted, both our athletic directors and our presidents unanimously, to say the conference commissioner has the authority to place that game, No. 1,” Sankey said. “No. 2, we also had a couple pieces of policy that set the expectation that all eight conference games be played in order to be eligible for the conference championship. We’ve made that now an explicit commissioner’s regulation. Again, our athletics directors and our presidents voted 14-0 to endorse that clarity of rule.”

In the future, each school will be expected to come up with a contingency plan for emergency scenarios, an area in which Florida faltered in the lead-up to Matthew by insisting the game would be played in Gainesville on a Saturday.

“We’ve also talked since our athletics directors’ meeting in December about the very specific contingency plans that happen on our campuses,” Sankey said. “We meet with our athletic directors next month, and those items will be another topic of conversation. And if you can imagine, just from a practical standpoint, we had a few war games in our office about ‘what if?’

“We will engage in that process as we move toward football season again. The two key policy changes to say explicitly, it’s no longer about two schools agreeing. It’s about the commissioner having the authority to designate when the game may be played, and that was adopted by our membership.”

Neyland could become the home stadium for the Gators on 9/16 BUT, and I can't stress this enough, - THEY.DO.NOT.GET.TO.PAINT.THE.ROCK!

Apologies, folks.

I said Tatum was suspended earlier. He's not. I misread this quote from 247:

Tennessee was down one offensive tackle for Monday night's season-opening win against Georgia Tech for disciplinary reasons.

The Vols will be down another tackle for Saturday's home opener against Indiana State.

Head coach Butch Jones after Thursday afternoon's practice said Marcus Tatum, who started the opener at right tackle with starting left tackle Drew Richmond suspended for violating team rules, will miss Saturday's game due to an unspecified injury.

For some reason I just saw "disciplinary reasons" and "violating team rules" and completely missed the part about the injury.

Carry on!

The homebrew store here in Nashville is great. Fully stocked with yeast, hops, malts, etc. Even have sake specific yeast strains. Have gardening supplies as well. I wonder how well a small brewery would do in Japan...been thinking about it, but the market here seems so saturated.

Anyone else get a good feeling about Matthew Butler? I really think that guy is going to play a big role this year and be starting by next year. I just don't see how you can get 26 sacks in a season and not bring something to the table immediately.

EB14 is and will remain a Vol legend despite the happenings of his NFL career. He stoned a couple of dudes tonight in run defense and held Gronk to nothing for a significant portion of the game.

I wish the absolute best for him and his family.

Yeah I was kinda thinking maybe against a team that passes the ball more than 10/96 plays he'd at least get some snaps in pass rushing situations.

Sooo I saw a top RB list. Ummmm did Guice for LSU get hurt? Or is there another reason he's not on the list? I mean he is kinda good. Lol

Which list?

If it was one of the ones from twitter grading top week one performances, he probably just didn't grade out as high as some other guys week one. Doesn't mean he's not one of the best in CFB or anything.

If it was a D4H list, then why even ask lol

With all the talk about the UF game getting moved/cancelled, any chance we see the SEC force some sort of 3 way trade between us, UF, and a common SEC opponent in order to protect the integrity of the SEC East race?

Edit: For example, could they move our game to the 23rd (UF/UK scheduled for them UMass for us, which we'd have to cancel), make UK cancel the Eastern Michigan game on the 30th and play UF then?

Can they force multiple schools to cancel opponents to make sure the SEC games are played?

One poster on another board keeps screaming that JG will transfer. He's been accurate on some things before but not 100 percent. But he was 100 in saying Richmond would be suspended but no one else. He gets info. from media peeps he knows.

While we're all praying for the saftey of our friends and relatives in the sunshine state as Irma moves toward shore, at least some of the folks down there are taking a break from storm prep to look ahead to their game with us.

From the Florida message board after their game with Northern Colorado for this week was cancelled:

Correct call.

Now we have Franks facing UT after throwing 9 passes against Michigan.

Last year's mishandling of the QB situation is about to have big ripples this year.

Mac can NOT use Irma as an excuse.
Did the right thing by canceling this game.
We really needed the live practice. Makes the Vols game harder for us.
Could have played a Friday. We NEED this game. UT is going to murder us.
Strictly in terms of football though it absolutely sucks. Nothing to watch after a miserable game against Michigan and now no in-game practice/experience for Franks before taking on UT.
Put it this way: playing Northern Colorado is not going to be so crucial that it'll make or break us vs Tennessee. If we lose to Tennessee, it's because we're not very good, not because Franks didn't have Northern Colorado to beat up on.
It's sad if we have to rely on the University of Northern Colorado Bears (my alma mater by the way) to give our offensive coordinator the proper confidence to face Tennessee.
So we had our season opener winning streak broken. Could break our 38 year streak of not starting 0-2.
Man we, really needed this game for a tune up. Hopefully get the offense feeling better about it self before Tenn. It's probably the right call though, dangerous storm.

Makes me sick in the stomach for the Tenn game though. Pretty much make or break the season to go down 0-2.
Well, at least UT only has one game to look at........laughing all the way!!!
Well this season is shaping up to be a disaster
Wow. This is a strange season already.

No prep game for Tenn. Glad we have them at home.
Start praying it's not moved to Knoxville...

Very interesting post by a GT poster in the FF:

------------------------------
As a GT fan, I rather like that other fans don't like the offense. Means there's less chance of someone making a run at hiring CPJ.

As far as it being boring this past game, that's mostly UT's fault. You were running the mike presnap out to take the pitch based on a motion read, and lining up your interior linemen a yard back to keep them clean of a backside cut. That was entirely to negate the "triple option" play, one of a bunch of plays we run. So we quit calling it. Switched to called dives to take advantage of that interior vacancy, counters, and stuff out of the belly series, and double option stuff that could reliably get 6 or 7 yards against that formation but wasn't likely to pop anything long. Still popped a few. Still had our shots downfield too - if we complete the last one that went through our guys fingers (play before the fumble) we'd a won the game outright.

It's a "take what they give you" thing. Can't complain about us taking 6 a play when you guys were giving us 6 a play. In the end it worked out in your favor because you managed to generate a couple turnovers. If you weren't crashing the pitch then you'd have more TOP because we'd be able to score on longer plays.
-----------------------------------

There was a method to our madness but for whatever reason we didn't adjust after GT changed tactics.

I believe it not

Would require Jalen Hurd level of rational thinking to decide that at this point

He says JG won't run in practice which is just bizarre. He also said to look for him to go to a JUCO. I don't buy it either but I do know he has some media friends and is sometimes right.

I was thinking of this earlier, I think a trade is probably the most likely. I don't know if we and the league office will be able to decide on a place to play it by the time the hurricane hits and damage assessed.
