You are right, but the argument is Hooker is 40% on deep balls coming into this game, so scheming open a 40% chance of working play is not the right call. A 10 yard 70% play was

ACC refs... Spots were horrible all game and the ref who said forard progress was stopped also didn't call the hold on Tillman on the last series in Q4

Exactly. Or just throw a slant over the middle to Tillman and call timeout. We take at least 10 yards off the kick and we have more time for another play to get closer. I don't know if that was Heup or Hooker who did that, but it was stupid either way.

Heup, this offense doesn’t give much freedom to QBs.

Hopefully the OL improves drastically next year, at times they seemed to just give up.

But how can you not call that hold on Tillman after calling 6 PIs on us, most questionable.

What the announcers just said is complete garbage. If the whistle is irrelevant and the ref thinks forward progress has been stopped, then there is no accountability what so ever.

Correct. Forward progress signals a play dead. If a ref believes there is forward progress they should have to signal it during the play. Otherwise you are allowing the play to continue and it should be reviewable.

Dumbest rule ever giving refs discretion to call forward progress without actually having to signal forward progress.

Heupel has learning to do. His offense relies too much on tempo. When teams do the injury BS or we need to slow it down he has to add in some wrinkles. Tempo is good but its too much of a crutch for him.

We’ll see next year.

I will say, we played with a half a deck vs most competent teams, it wasn’t like we could cram it down anyone’s throat but it’s worth seeing how things change
