I was just messing with you but the reason the radicals hate and want to attack American really boils down to one thing... We support Israel. We would have to totally abandon Israel and I'm not sure if that would help. Their goal is one world religion, Islam.

If was soley about our policies, why do they attack non American Christian institutions in other parts of the world, including in predominant Muslim countries?

They do i grant you that but we are enemy number one and yes supporting israel doesn't help.

Who do you think supported bin laden for years and funded his rise to power? The good ole usa.

He was an heir to hundreds of millions. USA supported the resistance against Soviets invading Afghanistan. Maybe if the commies had "minded their own business"? Stick your butt back in the air...bad guys missed a spot.

Our actions have given them an enemy to hate, a rallying cry you cannot discount that. The US is the devil our bombs our troops, etc. They are raised to hate us. And our best are sent over there to die in a fight we cannot win. I worked close with the army during the conflict and saw first hand what the cost is. Its a travesty.

If you mean our actions of supporting Israel, then I agree with that point. Radicals don't need much of a reason, to be honest. Did we make it easier for them? That's debatable, too. We have meddled in a lot of places, but we are not the only ones. Their activities are touching people in a lot of places now. Europe has had horrendous attacks. Muslim countries, like Egypt, are not immune. Their goal is to foment terror to achieve their geo-political goals. We are a handy target, but to argue that we brought it all onto ourselves is looking at the picture in a very narrow way.

Sometimes that is the right way.

So "we had it coming"? Go **** yourself dude! NOW you're done.

Not what I said. By our leaders policy of half ass involvement in the Middle East we gave them the fuel to hate that they acted on. That is what I am saying.

Its ok to love your country and not be too keen on our leaders and our policies. You don't have to blindly accept everything as being ok or right because it is done under the cover of our flag. Thanks to WWII our military contract machine has revved to support policing around the world to avoid another Hitler. A lot of death for the "greater good." :good!:

I am honestly not sure what you mean. If you mean that we need to look to only ourselves to see what we can do or have done to stop the attacks, then I am still not sure that point is valid.

Im not changing any minds so lets all just carry on and hope we don't have a nuclear war with North Korea.

Watching Boston Marathon with my wife who qualified for this race. She has been sick for a few months and couldn't run in THIS one.

See you next April Boston.

Can't wait

Governments chose to stay out of it when Hitler was marching across Europe too. He didn't attack Americans but we eventually had to engage. I'm not saying Assad is Hitler but like it or not, the stability of the Middle East affects the entire world. If leaders there are gassing their people it will eventually affect us in one way or another.

Also, like it or not, most of the rest of the world takes their lead from us. Sometimes you have to take action because everyone knows what is happening is wrong but the alpha has to set the tone and example. I don't know what the right answer is. I don't want American Soldiers on the ground but we cannot simply isolate ourselves either. There has to be a middle ground.

We didn't fully stay out of it. We sent support to the Allies up until the time of Pearl Harbor. Then crap got real and we had to fix Europe again. Hitler had plans to come after every single major city on the East Coast. He would have highly succeeded, IMO.

I'm not going to play the part that I know what is right or wrong in either messing with other governments or staying out of it. All I know is that I would rather not be the person who makes the decision. Truman, for example.

Just a footnote, Russia won WWII we helped by having a western front but the Russians broke Hitler's back.

The Russians were definitely a huge part of the WWII victory but the American military industrial output was a huge part of winning the war. We were pumping out gear, ammunition, trucks, tanks, and planes at such a rate that it was staggering. Plus, once we started bombing the poop out of the German industrial areas and greatly diminishing their ability to produce military firepower on anywhere close to the level we did, it was only a matter of time. Many of the German instruments of war were much better than ours but our main advantage was our ability to produce ours in staggering numbers. I have seen interviews with German tankers in particular that talked about how their Panzers were greatly superior to the Sherman but they simply couldn't stop them all. They just kept coming. I think it would have taken a lot longer and more American lives if the Russians hadn't been on the Eastern front but our ability to out produce the Germans would have eventually won the war for us.

You also have to remember that we were fighting on two fronts as well.

Yes Russia was the only country fighting one front and it was their sheer numbers that finally outlasted the Germans.

Would we have won without Russia? Hard to say because yes we were fighting on two fronts. I doubt we would have nuked Germany as we did Japan so it would have been a very very long war.

~10 mil in armed forces casualties and something around ~27 mil in total casualties.

Who knows how it might have all played out if Russia hadn't been drawn into the war. However, once we did finally nuke Japan and end the war on that front we would have been able to pour the full might of our military into the European theater. Plus, even the threat of another nuke might have been enough to end the war in Europe too. Who knows though? The Germans probably would have run out of bullets before the Russians ran out of bodies.

The Russians were very low on bullets, as well. Would have probably just turned into a huge slap fest.

Given time, the Germans may have perfected the bomb before the US and fortress Europe would've been an even tougher nut to crack.

If we hadn't entered the war, it is very likely that it would have bought Germany a lot more time to perfect the bomb. By having to fight us in Italy and France it took a lot of manpower away from the eastern defense. Hitler would have nuked the Slavs into extinction. Even if he didn't have to to win.
