Annnnnd that my friend is the million dollar question.

To be honest though. Since I know you've been there done that. Did you not like being warm? I'll raise my hand. I did. At least to the extent you could say we were actually warm. Warmer than frozen maybe?

I'm laughing to myself because I know there are a lot (probably most) on here who don't understand that we are joking in truths here.

I do like being warm. I think the missing context is that our battle buddies are like brothers to us, it's family. But definitely better than being frozen.

I used to have hair. I kind of remember it even.

Homer? Is that you?

Without knowing specifics of your situation it is hard to say. There are ways to convert traditional IRAs into Roth IRAs if you open a Roth prior to your income growing beyond the limits of the Roth. You would have to pay taxes on the tax deferred contributions but then everything would grow tax free withing the Roth. Of course this only works if you already have an existing IRA.

Right. I've tried to read up some on financial topics and I've seen the "back door" method of converting traditional IRA contributions to Roth mentioned. If one's income were to drop back down to Roth levels, would eligibility to contribute directly to a Roth return?

What degree are you finishing up? Congratulations on completing your schooling as well!

MD. Its been a long time coming, as I'm sure you can relate to.

The Roth threshold is based on your income for a given year. If it falls below the threshold then you would be eligible to contribute. If you are running your own practice and take a salary that keeps you below the threshold then you could contribute. You have to consider the long term affects though. Is it worth saving a little bit in taxes later? If you've got the ability to earn a larger income then I say go for it. There are plenty of other vehicles that you can use to defer taxes like the 401(k). The Roth is great if you qualify but I would trade the Roth for a huge income any day. Also, if you are married and filing jointly, the threshold is quite a bit higher than the single threshold. Not sure of your marital situation.

Congrats on your MD! That is a huge accomplishment! I applaud your diligence and dedication. What is next? Internship?

I do appreciate all of your input! Like I said, I've tried to read up some online, but it's helpful to have someone with some knowledge clarify.

Thanks! Yep, I'll be starting my intern year in July as a part of a 5 year residency program.

I will be onboarding and training for the first couple of months starting in June but after that I would be happy to assist you. Where will you be doing your residency?

Damn okefenokee swamp is on fire and there's smoke and ash everywhere around here. We need rain so bad.

On the beer talk, two of my all-time favorite beers are Mother's Brewing M.I.L.F (2015) and Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel. Both are straight up 5/5s and their greatness cannot be questioned; they are as close to perfect as Beer gets.

Last year Hi-Wire created a one off in their Hop-Circus lineup that was a Passionfruit White IPA and it was amazing.

For anyone in the Knoxville area, Crafty Bastards is the be all end all. Them and Southern Grist are neck and neck for best brewery in the state.
Ever tried Yee Haw and/or JRH? I've never had any CB or SG stuff. Need to check them out. Not sure if sold in my neck of the woods. Will have to check with Libation Station.

Bells Two-Hearted Ale and various Oskar Blues - Old Chubb, Dales, Gnight, etc - have been my go to lately.

And Mello Joy is the stuff for you coffee drinkers. Give it a whirl.

Bell's Two-Hearted and their Texas beer, Am I Right Or Amarillo, are wonderful.

Oskar Blues - Gnight is a great beer, love it. Glad they are in TX now, too.

I haven't had any from those two, but the boys at Wiseacre might have a say about the best in the state.

I've had tons of wiseacre, they are a very good brewery but they are a tier or two below the ones I mentioned. Same goes for Yee Haw, they have a killer Dunkel, just not in the same tier.

Liquor legislation changes in Tennessee have really helped a craft beer renaissance across the state. It's a great time for people that love beer.

As someone that is a supervisor at the liquor store with the largest craft beer selection in the South East, I have the opportunity to try basically everything that is available in our market and some things that aren't.
