You lift for an hour and a half? What does that look like? I usually do on chest day, 4 sets of bench, 4 sets flyes, 4 sets shoulder press, 4 sets tricep pushdowns, 4 sets of another triceps exercise and it only takes me about 45-50 minutes
Lifting burns more calories than cardio alone. I recommend doing both.
I have lost 30 pounds in 10 weeks. I did two things. I joined Planet Fitness for $20/month (you can join for even cheaper) and I started a food diary. My Fitness Pal is the free app that I use for it.
I hit the gym 4-5 times each week, and I do a combination of lifting and cardio. I alternate upper and lower body. I typically do low weight/high rep and try to do 6-8 sets of each in about 40-45 minutes. I still have a good ways to go, but I am confident that I will get there.
Y'all got me thinkin' about dem calories now. Does anyone have the FitBit Blaze watch or a Garmin 235 (or equivalent). If you do, what are your thoughts on it? I'm thinking about getting one and I am trying to decide between the two.
As for the water intake, yes. Do it. Cut out sodas and replace it with water. Depending on how much you drink per day you may end up going through a small withdrawal, but in the end you will notice you have much more energy. I try to drink ~10oz of water right when I wake up every day. The days I do I notice I am much more alert and ready to get things rolling than when I don't (I feel sluggish and my mind is less alert). I also notice I have a better mood when I drink the water. Who new a molecule like H2 O, with a little D2O, could do that for you!?
Just out of curiosity, when did he state that. Or are you using hyperbole. I wouldn't put it past him but people tend to sensationalize a lot of what he says.
Apparently he's quoted as saying that in a biography recently released about him. I haven't read the book admittedly, but the relevant quotation is
"After college, after Trump mostly gave up his personal athletic interests, he came to view time spent playing sports as time wasted. Trump believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted. So he didnt work out. When he learned that John ODonnell, one of his top casino executives, was training for an Ironman triathlon, he admonished him, "You are going to die young because of this."
There was also a New Yorker profile from 2015 where he defended his views on exercise by saying "my friends who work out all the time, theyre going for knee replacements, hip replacementstheyre a disaster."
I agree a lot of what he says gets sensationalized. It wouldn't surprise me if he made the remark in an offhanded joking way. I just find it humorous that he can't just come out and say "I don't like to exercise" and instead has to go off on a side bar about how his friends (likely all guys in their 60s+) have had knee replacements as evidence that his dislike of exercise is well founded.
How is the heart rate sensor? Is it pretty accurate?
A recent study of all the fitness trackers showed that they all are pretty accurate when it comes to heart rate. None of them do a good job tracking calories burned.

To everyone talking about ditching soda for water. That is spot on. There are 140 calories in 12 ounces of coke, and its all sugar.
As a scientist this makes me happy. However, I do agree with the article that the population they used was very small. Still, that's interesting they found that huge of a difference with the calorie counting.
