I guess it depends on the context.

When a rational and well-informed democracy is used to appoint leaders who operate within a well-constrained legal framework, I'm all for democracy.

When democracy is used by some to subvert the rights of others, I think that is a problem. The democratically elected government of South Africa is pushing for expropriation of land without compensation, and if they must change the constitution to do so, they are willing. So in short, the majority has democratically decided to take the property of the minority. I call that a problem.

When society starts justifying vandalism, or law enforcement refuses to do their job when they disagree with you, or we start limiting free speech because something offends us, we are clearly moving down that slope where law becomes secondary to the will of the sheep. And that's cool until they decide that you are the problem.
