The 75th Ranger Regiment (Army Rangers) are a Special Operations airborne unit. They are a Light Infrantry unit that specializes in taking large targets like an airfield.
The Green Berets are the US Army’s traditional Special Forces.
The SEALs are the US Navy’s Special Operations unit. Skilled in maritime activities.
Pararescumen (PJ’s) are Air Force special operators from the 24th STS that embed with other SOF teams.
Technically Large Targets like an airfield are seized by one of the Airborne (18th Airborne Corps) units like the 82nd, 173rd, or 25th. (It’s their specialty “Airfield Seizure”) Rangers technically specialize it Direct Action missions, they go in and just wreak havoc.
This is because the difference in size. One goes up to a corps/division (Airborne) the other only goes up to a regiment in size. (Rangers)
