We let Butch “build” his program......it’s gotta be the right guy doing the building.
It was obvious butch wasn’t building though. Remember how he refused to play josh dobbs until he absolutely had to? How he couldn’t beat Florida in 2014 when they were literally handing us the game? How the only SEC win he could get year one was by beating a 2-10 KY team? I could go on and on. That dude was poop from the beginning

It was all Dobbs. Literally every good thing that happened in the Butch era (error) was Dobbs.

And he didn’t even want to play him! He played Worley and peterman before Dobbs multiple times. Just pathetic how dumb the guy was. And he’s such a beta he’s happy to keep his job as an intern lmao
not to go all "defend butch" mode, but at the time there was no JG or QD in the fold. it was just peterman, worley and Dobbs.

and i think he really wanted to just get thru that year with dobbs as a RS, that way he'd have more to build on in the future and have more a team around Dobbs later on.

that's one particular item that i never really blamed him for. we weren't very good, weren't gonna be very good, and if either peterman or worley could have just been serviceable, we'd of had had Dobbs thru 2017.

made sense at the time to me.

hindsight being 20/20, it's obviously not real difficult to see who was the better player.

How many times did he tell the media that he wasn’t a smart guy/had average intelligence, too? Lmao! I think you need to possess above average intelligence to be a successful SEC football coach.

In 2013 sure but then he continued to not let him play in 2014 until he absolutely had to. That’s why I don’t think I’m using hindsight. The way he held back dobbs for so long that year was weird

Dobbs’ parents really wanted him to redshirt. Butch should have played him earlier anyway, though. Butch was always listening/acquiescing to the wrong people and ignoring the wrong people.

he had to burn the RS in 13, was attempting to get it back in 14....had to burn it then too....i think he really wanted to extend Dobbs' career here as much as possible, and as we now know becaome common place in our program, due to injuries, was unable to do so in either case. QB depth in 13 and 14 was bad....and if Dobbs had gone down, we'd of really be screwed more than we were already.

the reason it's hindsight is because we already know the ending. there were a lot of mis steps along the way while CBJ was here. i didn't have an issue with trying to squeeze another year out of Dobbs' elgibility.

there were plenty of other "issues" that were waay more glaring.

and as we saw the next two years, not playing Dobbs didn't have a whole lot of affect on the final outcome. we won some games we hadn't before, sure, but the end result was still the same in the end.

He beat USC in year one and probably prevented them from playing for a national title.

Lucky win. If spurrier had gone for it on 4th and 1 they would’ve got it and won. Then North (another great player butch ruined) made a big time catch.

That game wasn’t like pruitt’s good wins in year 1. We dominated KY and AU. Oh and Pruitt didn’t jump and around like moron

If he really wanted to keep his promise to redshirt him then he would’ve. Like why start peterman for 2 or 3 drives against bama and then throw dobbs out there when we’re down by 21? That doesn’t look like someone trying to preserve a redshirt to me

didn't Worley and Peterman both get hurt? iirc, peterman got hurt in that Bama game.....?

anyway, doesn't matter now. not really sure why i decided to join the frey on this one. Dobbs was great, butch wasn't.....

That plan was gone after Worley was officially ruled out for the season the previous game. Dobbs hadn’t played the entire season, so treading slowly against BAMA shouldn’t be included in Butch’s monumental list of missteps.

yep. worley got hurt, out for the year earlier in the season, then peterman went down against Bama.........enter Dobbs.

I know your hatred for Butch. But I never let emotion get in the way of praising when you succeed and criticizing when you don't. It was a huge win with a terrible roster. There were some unlucky breaks during his tenure, too.

Butch's tenure started fine. It was year 3 when he decided to change his strength and conditioning and kept changing coaches that cost him his job.

What bad luck happened to him? I saw a team that played tight because they were being led by a guy that wasn’t comfortable in his own skin. Terrible situation for everyone but he deserved the bad breaks he got because he coached tight. Also I think he fired the S&C coach after year 3 not before. Year 3 was when we went down to bama and played a hell of a game

There is no use in discussing it because it won't change anyone's mind. Just pointing out that (lucky or not) they beat USC in year one. He was lucky in one instance but deserved bad breaks in another? Yea, you aren't bitter.

Peterman didn’t get hurt. He was just really bad so butch pulled him
whatever. it was 5 years ago. memory....it is what it is.

still goes back to the point of if either worley or peterman could have been serviceable, he gets dobbs another year. and now knowing what dobbs was, it wasn't exactly a bad line of thought to have.

didn't work out that way. no other options, for whatever reason..................

The dude cost us Trevor Lawrence and wasted Alvin Kamara. He set the program back years and was a terrible person on top of all of that. Of course I’m bitter

Dobbs showed flashes year one whereas peterman never did. He knew what he had. I’m just saying that the redshirt story is bs. If he really promised dobbs’ family that he would redshirt him then he would’ve and he would’ve done whatever possible to get a QB in the 2014 class. He also wouldn’t have thrown him out against bama down 21 if he wanted to save his redshirt. That would make no sense

I didn’t remember Peterman being injured in Dobbs sophomore season...played like it. He was the backup for the rest of the year.
