Look out @butchna and @SLICKYINC , @bluetick2 wants a real football conversation from people who know something about football.....

I know nothing about football.... you guys got it covered for me?
You inserted yourself in this conversation asking why it even mattered.

It matters because he is an incoming player who might be able to play.

If you cant understand that wtf are you in here for?

Pretty sure that’s why you are being made fun of. Staff didn’t recruit him to play any other position. Lol 😂
Yes, because this staff has never, once, moved a player around.

Check Littlevol's response. Think hard about it, and then get back to me.

Much bigger position of need is QB. We could’ve had John Mackey, Kellen Winslow, Ozzie Newsome, Dave Casper, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez and Rob Gronkowski on the roster last night and it wouldn’t have mattered. Guarantano couldn’t hit the broad side of a freaking barn in the red zone last night, even if he’d have had an 8 foot tight end playing.
Darnell Washington would’ve been freshman all American next year, with JG under center.
GBO!!

Maurer can be good but honestly he threw about 4 balls last night on that one drive that should have been picked.
4? He only threw 3 on the drive, completing 1 for a big 3rd down conversion.

And I’ll take passes that maybe should’ve been picked over 2 that definitely were, including one that was returned for a touchdown.

Bottom line, Maurer is more talented than Guarantano and has a much higher ceiling. We know what Guarantano is and it’s not good....time to see what Maurer and Shrout and Hill and Bailey can be......pretty much anybody but Guarantano

I think you share my opinion as he was a freshman thrown to the wolves. I’m no qb savant, but what I saw from BM this year was a guy who made his plays running with the ball or scrambling out of the pocket to find receivers who had broken off their routes. Without any stats to back it up, my impression was he struggled to stay in the pocket and make the correct reads on where to throw the fb. That’s what I view as the mental part of playing qb. JMO
Maurer was outstanding from the pocket in the first half vs the best defense we played all year, Georgia .....200+ yards and 2 tds. He obviously needs more coaching and more experience to improve his mental acumen as a collegiate QB.

Unfortunately, any Tennessee QB not named Jarrett Guarantano had the shortest of leashes last season so they weren’t able to get the reps needed to further their understanding of the offense in game situations.....while, conversely, Guarantano could make as many mistakes as he could possibly muster with little to no consequence.

Right.... like when Shrout played one series and made a bad throw across his body and never saw the field again..... wasn’t even intercepted and we still got 3 points out of the drive......

Super short leash for that kid..... also threw the prettiest TD I had seen in a long time.....

Right . JG was the only one given the opportunity to overcome adversity.
The others it was do good or your out!
While JG was given unlimited opportunity to come back from mistake after mistake

Wow. That's quite a reversal.

I'm pretty pessimistic on JG now too... but man... that's a big switch for you.

The best half of QB play all year long was Maurer vs the best defense we played all year, Georgia. Obviously, Georgia made halftime adjustments and Brian didn’t finish the game due to a blindside hit which resulted in his first concussion.

Also, Shrout every bit as well as, I’d say even better than Guarantano vs SCar although not getting as much opportunities.

For some reason, I assume because of Guarantano having a better knowledge of protections and checks, he ALWAYS got the benefit of the doubt from the coaches and a much, much longer leash.

We know exactly what Guarantano is at this point....an inconsistent, emotional head case that has bad instincts and puts our offense at a disadvantage with his up and down play. I’m very eager to see Maurer and Shrout after another off season and spring practice under Chaney. They surely can surpass Guarantano, and if they can’t, they should strongly consider quitting football.
I agree but am concerned that one or both may transfer(BM&JT)

It is bc the coaches don’t trust them bc they make way more mistakes in practice.
