Seems like the major factor for people needing organized religion is raising their kids as it gives them a value system and what they see as a good influence. I say if that works for you more power to you I have no kids, have never felt the need to have any since everyone else does. My dogs don't really feel the need to go to church so there is no pull there. My life seems pretty ok to me and I try to live by the Golden rule as much as I can. Bottom line is that everybody finds peace and a reason for being in their own way, don't preach to me and I'll return the favor.

Fair.

I think one thing that's always bothered me (not directed at you Newt, but your "bottom line" made me think of this). With how things are today with so much communication dumped into Social Media, too many people seem to think that everything is about or directed at them. I see so many facebook arguments start because someone makes a post to start a discussion. Then the people who are choosing to comment to that post, and choosing to be involved in that discussion so often turn it around with the "well why are you shoving your beliefs down my throat?!?!"

I guess to me if I don't support your politic opinion or religious/non-religious beliefs I typically don't engaged in commenting on or responding to your social media "prompts" on those topics, find it weird more people don't adopt that.

Well one, Facebook is full of idiots but otherwise, forums like this are made for discourse, so I don't mind engaging in fun discussions/arguments.

If I came off as arrogant or as a holier than thou way I apologize. That’s not the way I am at all. I’m not ashamed to say I’m a Christian, doesn’t make me no different than the next man, just forgiven. Christianity is all about a relationship with Christ and I personally cannot partake in pornography and go to church on Sundays and be asked to pray or sing with a good conscience. Not judging anyone each to their own

The golden rule fails due to preference differences. You may want to be treated in ways others do not. Or, in a more immoral capacity, consider a masochist applying the golden rule.

There is also the platinum rule, though it has big shortcomings too.

It works for me.

Lol, wut?

Castration IS the “best” form of birth control.
Name another form that is 100% effective.

There are other forms, some very good ones even.
But none are as effective as NOT having testicles. That’s just the fact, Jack.

Abstinence only works IF all parties are practicing which doesn’t seem to be the case with all the rapes & sexual assaults present in this world, unfortunately.
Well now you’re just engaging in non sequiturs

This was me until 2-3 years ago. And I'll admit I wasn't necessarily looking for a new church but had the same concerns about my kids.

We we're fortunate... One of my oldest kid's friends invited her to participate in a local Methodist Church's nativity scene, and she did, and she had a great time... Meet some good people... Any way we obviously went to the church to see her in it.

Long story short this was the kind of church we were looking for... The kids WANTED to go and the church is very active in community outreach and volunteering, strong youth group Ave Sunday school...So more doing, a whole lot less banner waiving and judging by the pastor and congregation...

I'm glad we found it. But I understand the sentiment about organized religion.
The Methodist church is currently struggling through some ish.

Well I’m not as stupid as you implied.

Absolutely, if NO ONE had sex then you obviously won’t get pregnant, that’s not some big revelation or anything.

The problem is unfortunately too many men in this world are pieces of ****.

There are lots of women pieces of **** too. Hard to go many months without seeing a story about some middle/high school teacher having sex with one of her students. Those women are as much of a predator as a dude that drugs a girl at a party and rapes her. Being a piece of garbage and hurting people is not the sole providence of the male gender.

Well you certainly attempted to make a stupid point, implying that abstinence wasn’t the “best” form of control (of the LEGAL forms that is).

Then you tried to go off on some ridiculous rape tangent, after declaring abortion out of bounds.

You are all over the place. Not my fault you got your panties twisted when called on it.

Lol you’re something else Sugar, I’ll give you that.

To be fair though, I never said abstinence wasn’t the best form. You saw what you wanted to though.

Evans is like the beautiful, albeit, kinda skanky cheerleader in HS, that you love to keep in your back pocket, but not sure you want to take home to meet mom.

Hard to drop, but can't make a commitment.

Little did you know she was also keeping you in her back pocket, along with a couple other dudes at different schools. 😂

So you’re calling your wife a skank?
I guess it is often used in a derogatory manner, but if the person isn't cheating on someone, there's nothing wrong with it. Just a way to shame women for doing what a majority of young men seem to already do. Some will call them manwhores...whatever. I don't see why all the judgment either direction. I was never one to sleep outside of long-term relationships, but certainly didn't see anything immoral about it either. Just a personal choice.

Calling others skank, manwhore, slut, why??
