I haven't seen it discussed on here but what does everyone think of the proposal by a couple of Democrats that we implement a new stimulus where everyone age 16 or over gets $2k a month for 6 months with the possibility of extending to 12 months. Children get $500 and it applies to individuals making less than $130k.

Also supposed to apply to college students, people claimed as dependants and others the original didn't cover.

Is this just political posturing or something that might happen? I haven't seen it really mentioned on the news.

I don’t think our current economy could survive the government dishing out that much money. No way all of that gets put back into the economy enough to help it recover.....

SMH...you know what my point was. People that want to kill will use anything..outlaw guns and some lunatic will still drive a tractor trailer through a crowd, or about million other ways of killing large amounts of people.
It isnt about outlawing guns.

Gun lobby is waay too strong, hell the West was won by Sam Colt.

What is wrong is that too many of the wrong PEOPLE have access to guns. Common sense approaches, taking both sides to make a decision must be needed.

Some Countries havent outlawed, but, it's extremely expensive to carry and own. A central database and deeper background checks, including consenting to mental background check. Gun retailers are already held liable if a gun they sold is used in a crime. Gun show loopholes, closed.

Reducing magazine capacity, bullet types, bump stocks, just window dressing.

I dont think lay person needs access to bulletproof facemasks, and headgear. bottom line, Citizens who show responsibility for what is a huge responsibility, git r dun.

Canada already doing it. Ireland too. Let's say it goes 6 months for 150 million people. That's what? 1.8 trillion?

We are already dishing that out to keep big business afloat, help small business and give individuals a rent payment.

A large chunk of that 1.8 trillion would go directly back into the economy.

So..it is ok take our Constitutionally gauranteed rights away, because of a few fringe lunatics...that makes sense.

They don't want to just keep guns out of the hands of loonies, they want to erode our right to bear arms completely away.

Talking point after talking point. Always saying ”common sense” approach but when your feet are held to the fire about that, we never hear what “common sense” really is. Wrong people? We already have background checks that include the mental aspect, if the .gov put you in the data base it shows up and you’re denied. There isn’t a gun show loophole. why does this keep getting parroted?

Bottom line is the only window dressing that there really is, is that gun grabbers want to take guns. Might not get to do it all at once but a bite at a time.

There is no requirement for background checks for gun show purchases. I've seen it done countless times. What's wrong with extending those checks to that arena?

When these reasonable measures are mentioned we hear the old familiar cry: "They're coming for our guns." There's of course always a scenario in which someone was unjustly placed on the no-buy list. Nobody cares if you have a couple of handguns to protect your own, or some hunting rifles, whatever. Semi-auto killing machines with high capacity mags have no practical value for your average joe, other than to compensate for a small weenie. They serve only to make a potentially deadly situation much worse. There is nothing wrong with at least applying more stringent checks to purchases of those types of weapons, or to extending basic background checks to gun shows purchases. I've only ever heard slippery-slope, red herring, paranoid delusional arguments to the contrary.

C'mon man. #1 I just said it isnt about taking guns away. #2 2019 was a brutally violent year for mass shootings, its now the cowards way.

That's the concern here.

Why would i want it that way? People are dying of this virus of all ages & backgrounds. Do you have an arbitrary number of deaths before it’s “bad”? As if 37,000 ppl dying isn’t quite enough to call for help.
How about the 1700+ babies who are killed every day??? That’s @ 620,000 a year!!! Those babies have a much longer life expectancy than those who this virus is killing. Anyone going to call for help for their little souls who have absolutely NO CHOICE in the matter and NO VOICE??!! 37,000 is a drop in the bucket compared to those numbers, and I'm not diminishing the seriousness of this virus. I’m just sick and tired of everyone seeming to make a judgement that one life is more important than another. Almost all of these people dying from the virus, in the higher risk category, or completely healthy, can have a choice as to whether he or she chooses to stay at home or go out into the world, if and when this country opens back up...those 620k babies do not get to make that choice. When are we going to “call for help” for them??

Would give this thousands upon thousands likes if possible.

I believe you...I think in your mind, it is not about taking guns away..BUT..then again people like you are not the problem.

It is the ones that absolutely want to destroy the right to bear arms. And there are a lot of em.

Are you as ready and willing to stand up for our rights against them?

It's an important thing. What bothers me the most is the lack, of any action or show of leadership on not only Trump's (surprrriiiise surpriiiiiiise!) Mcconnell, or even Senate Republicans. I'm leaving Congressional Dems out, for obvs reasons.

I would take a stand, on my own....lol.

I'm more middle of road than my progressive friends, anndd waaaaaay more left than my Trump backing friends on this topic.

I am interested to see how much of the 'mass shooting mentality' is due in part to the Trump leadership and the mentality he brings to table, ie lack of self accountability, othering, & divisiveness.

Unfortunately, I think it's here no matter. Therefore...

I believe once CV is nailed we will need to have an honest discussion as a Country about this issue. There is a problem. It needs to come from Washington, but, it needs to include the NRA & Republicans, then Dems.

3 out of 14000 in NY 0-17 died. ALL 3 had underlying issues. Also, intubation has been found in several cases hastening death. All these deaths in areas where mitigation was practiced well according to experts. Nashville doing great. Other counties in southeast Tennessee doing bad. But they have low case and death rates and few in the hospital. Shutting down NY and Louisiana probably a good idea. The entire freaking country. Heck no. DATA does not support.
I think I agree. May 1st has to be go time, esp for areas that were relatively unaffected.

Guess we'll see these rolling shut downs based upon local area for 12-18 more months.

Economy cannot withstand May into June.

Re-opening the Jax/Florida beaches could only be done by a Trumpet.

I hate the term "progressive" being used for those freaks..

Beaches are open for a few hours a day and for recreation only. No sunbathing, no coolers, no chairs. How is that any different from walking in a park?

I dont like it being used with 'Democrat'. Doesn't technically everyone see their respective platform as progressive?
It bothers me, because of what the word means. There is no progress in those leftist freaks...except toward communism and a totalitarian nanny state.

If you look back at a bit of history, there were tons of "mass shootings" and wacko terrorists even during Obama's years. And he was a president who did as much if not more to stoke the flames of divisiveness as anyone. Blame aside, it is an issue in a sense, but far, far, down the list of what should be debated in Congress.
I would put the senseless and horrific killing of 1700 unborn lives per day waaay ahead of assault rifles etc. Ole Nancy and her cronies are preaching "every life is precious", are they not?

To them, that may mean progress. I do agree communism or socialism cannot work. I also, and more fervently believe big businesses, 1%ers, & CEO's shouldnt be given large tax breaks, further, jack **** for tax breaks. In fact, BB should pay as much or more than SMB's. Take extra money and help SMB to move the ball. Pay for those scores loans.

You came in at the end of the discussion don't try a frontal assault after lines had been drawn.

Guns are the superior murder weapon, ask our Calvary when they had to slaughter the tribes. Gunpowder ruled the colonies. Ridiculous to argue otherwise.
Timothy McVeigh would argue otherwise.

'progressive' maybe, but not 'Progressive' Unfortunately for the Democrat party, when Bernie, an Independent, attached himself to the Democrat party, his Progressives, the far left Democratic-Socialists (a ridiculous term) came along with him, and the party is in a tug-of-war within it self to see who gains control, but so far it seems the Progressive Left is pulling the liberal/moderates further Left. And throw in a growing number in the party who want to divide the country into tribes based on either their color, their sex, their gender, etc., and you have a party that has no idea what it is right now. The supposed current leaders of the party in Congress, Pelosi and Schumer, have seemingly lost their minds lately as they both seem to be terrified of the radical Left in the party gaining further control, and the other leader of the party, the presidential nominee, doesn't seem to have all of his mental faculties right now. It's hard to imagine the party being able to hold together in its present form.

Well that’s a whole different situation, but i will day this... i think unwanted children have far less of a chance at a happy and safe life.

I've been to 100's of gun shows. I've bought numerous firearms and all included background checks. Most, not all that have tables at gun shows are dealers and they are 100% required to do background checks. The only sales that do not require background checks are private sales, sales between individuals. The gun show loop hole is nothing more that a liberal, anti-second amendment propaganda catch phrase used to manipulate the uniformed, weak minded populace. THERE IS NO GUN SHOW LOOP HOLE.

If you want to make make background checks more prevalent, do two things:

1. Make the background check free. You shouldn't have to pay the government to exercise your rights.

2. Don't put the firearm on the application for the background check. There is zero reason to do this other than create a firearm database. This encourages people to purchase firearms through private sales.
