Almost. She said if you don't trust that they won't take your property, life, liberty at some point through force. But I digress.

Regardless, she then concludes the gun debate is over. She is setting the argument up as ONLY being about owning guns or not, ie we need guns to protect us from the government taking things by force.

Well, she said the debate is over if....and based on the 'if' she was right.

I would agree IF this was the actual, genuine gun debate.

I'm all ears. What is the real gun debate?

The gun debate is over who can get them (mental, criminals, etc), the controls in place, and type of weapons.

Getting past the fact that is not the gun debate to most ardent anti-gun people, criminals already can't legally purchase weapons. Remember, the Democrat candidate for president has already said if elected he will come for the 'assault weapons'. But I have said before I am all for keeping weapons out of the hands of individuals with severe mental issues, but how do you go about that on a national scale and who decides who meets the criteria of being too mental?

Her false dichotomy is disingenuous. Some can agree with the possibility of a forceful government, while still wanting reasonable measures in place for anomalous circumstances and people.

You say you only want reasonable measures and I can respect that, but so far I have not really seen any "reasonable measures" put forward; all I have seen are measures designed to put unnecessary restrictions on responsible gunowners, none of which will prevent criminals from being criminals. And then of course, as I already noted, I saw the actual threats from the Dem presidential candidate to come for the AR-15s. So no, that is certainly not a 'reasonable' measure. And there is the problem. It is going to be really difficult to get responsible gunowners to take anyone's claims such as yourself of only wanting reasonable measures when we have already seen presidential candidates openly tell us they will come for our guns.

Great if you aren't interested in talking about the nuances. The rest of us are.

Define "the rest of us."

Her whole strawman argument disingenuously dismisses all the arguments in-between. Again, someone can believe the government is capable of taking property, liberty ,etc by force....and still want to debate modern gun control issues.

She says all are one or the other...a sad device to trick people.

okie dokie.

This gun control issue really hit home for me today. First, I support the right to own a gun... many different types, in fact.

But they need to be less accessible and require strict background checks, drug tests, thorough psych evals and even character references....for all levels of firearms.

My good friend (best man at my wedding) just had his brother killed(also my buddy) in Pensacola. My buddy had moved in with a guy who he had known several years. The guy had some psychological issues... mostly bi-polar and liked to get drunk, fire off his gun for fun and would get belligerent and argue when drinking. Never had been too much of a problem before.

My buddy and the guy argued and my buddy decided to pack a bag and leave and planned to come back and get his furniture the next day. This pscho f*** went to his room, got his gun and shot my buddy in the neck and back as he was walking out the front door.

My buddy just turned 32, had a close girlfriend who has a daghter and was a genuinely nice guy if a little immature at times. He drank and smoked a little but didn't start problems with people. Please pray for his family to heal their loss.

If mental evals were a bigger part of gun ownership maybe this senseless death could have been prevented. So heartbroken for their whole family and disgusted with the P.O.S who did this senselessly. People with documented drug, alcohol and/or psychological problems shouldn't have the right to dangerous weapons.

Gun proponents will say that the guy could have used a knife or other weapon but my friend would have at least had a fighting chance and probably would have had less serious injuries.

You will be missed, Dillon. You didn't deserve to have your life cut short and have your family's lives forever changed.

I'm sorry for your friend.

This is one of the areas where most people don't understand the laws that are on the books because law enforcement doesn't use them until after the crime has been committed. There are eight classes of persons who are not allowed to own or even possess a gun under federal law. The first one is anyone who has been convicted of a felony (the NRA hates that one and keeps trying to have it repealed). Some of the others may surprise you such as anyone who has been adjudicated as incompetent (that's a civil proceeding not criminal) and anyone who has either been found guilty of domestic violence or who is under a restraining order due to domestic violence. The problem is that judges don't make gun removal part of their orders and most lawyers don't understand the gun ownership/ possession laws..

If the roommate had been diagnosed as bipolar and someone/anyone had filed a competency petition, his guns could have been taken away. And there are different levels of conservatorship that can be pursued. They could have simply sought an order prohibiting gun ownership.

Thank you for the info WBO. And thank you for the condolences InVol.

I might have been emotional in my post last night because I do believe in gun ownership.... people just have a tendency to mind their own business when it comes to crazy people and probably don't even think to petition that they be declared incompetent. Ive shared before that both my parents are/we're schitzophrenic. Luckily , my mom hates guns because she should never own one.

I'm also familiar with the felon law and I have mixed feelings on it. My daughter got out of the house when she was 4 and went down the dirt road looking for her mom. She had tried getting out a couple of times before to go to a neighbor's who gave all the kids cookies (sweet old lady).

So I moved the slide bolt on the front door to the top of the door and put a little alarm chime on the back door. Wife leaves one morning, wakes me up to slide the bolt back, my daughter is watching cartoons at the end of my bed and falls asleep. I fall asleep a little later because I had worked the night before. Next thing I know the cops are coming in my house telling me my daughter was down the dirt road about 1000 ft. My neighbor, who knew me, had called the cops.

Apparently, my daughter had taken dining room chair, put it up to front door, stacked her potty chair on it and was just barely able to reach the bolt....she even reenacted it for the cops and DCF and they laughed that she was a "little Houdini".

They waited for my wife to get back from the store, put me in cuffs and boom I'm a felon. 3rd degree child neglect without bodily harm.

There is no reason a "felon" like me shouldn't be allowed to own a gun. Sorry for the TL, DR.

There is a lot of thought out there we Christians are hearing more and more, especially those who closely follow prophesy, the Book of Revelation and the end times. My dad spent a lot of time his last couple of years reading books on these subjects.
I was out at my moms earlier today and she is convinced that this whole thing is setting up for the one world government theory and everyone receiving the "mark". I'll tell ya, it's a lot to think about and study on, but things like what's happening across the world sure make you wonder!

I’ll throw this out there because I can’t be the only one (and we’ll see how long it sticks!)...

I’ve always been conservative and voted in every election for which I’m eligible. What I’ve observed over these past 25-30 years is that for me personally, and the lives of me and my family, it doesn’t matter very much who controls Congress and/or who is the president. And the extremely overwhelming majority of all of them are despicable. Both sides disgust me. So, this will be the first time that I will not vote. As I mentioned, I’m pretty conservative (both fiscally and socially, but probably more so fiscally), but I’m ashamed of who I voted for in 2016 and I won’t do it again.

All that to say that it’s so stupid to bring politics into the virus debate. We aren’t going to know for quite some time who was right or wrong, and even then all the data will be slanted to the authors political leaning.

I will say that, as a resident of Georgia and having a wife and child in an “at risk” category, I think it’s incredibly dumb for Kemp to be going into Phase 1 recovery this soon. Don’t the guidelines say that you have to have a reliable 14-day trend of declining cases? We are nowhere near that...I’m not even sure we have a 7-day declining trend, since there are still cases from the past several days that haven’t been reported yet.

/rant...I hoped that would make me feel better but it didn’t. 😞

Just put shock collars on everybody like the invisible pet fences. Get to close and you get a shock. Get too many shocks and they call in specialists to do a lobotomy.

If we are going to violate the Constitution and BoR, might as well go all the way.

I feel like Kyra Sedgwick never got the credit for being a girl next door hottie that she deserved. She’s just as hot as Julia Roberts IMO. Even today... she’s like 60, but she’s still fine af.

Never thought Liv Tyler was at all attractive.

The most unbelievable part of Armageddon was the fact that Ben Afflecks character was gonna return to earth a hero then settle for an average looking schlub like Liv Tyler.

Missouri and Mississippi sue China. LOL. China calls the lawsuits absurd. Some nations likely to follow, with Germany, the UK, Israel, and Australia, among numerous others, saying China must answer questions. I have no idea if these type lawsuits hold water, but still, it is about time seeing the West at least appearing at this point to stop turning a blind eye to the danger that is the CCP.
