Executive orders are inherent in the federal or state constitutions, allowing a governor some discretion, especially in a crisis or disaster. The thing that folks have to remember is that our system of checks and balances is still in force. If Congress (or a Legislature) thought the President (or a Governor) overstepped his authority, then they can pass legislation to overturn it. Additionally, the State's highest court or Supreme Court can review it as well for its constitutionality.

There are two issues though. One is that many of the state (and even federal) courts entered orders doing very similar things as the executive orders. While courts weren't closed per se, they severely limited in-person proceedings, which essentially shut them down. In highly populated areas, courthouses would be a prime place for spread. So, most judges were in agreement to slow things down. Two, as long as there was an end in site, then timing was an issue. It takes a little time for a review, and most states were discussing a slow opening.

There was a challenge of the Pennsylvania governor's executive order in mid April in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The Court sided with the State. So, there is your check and balance.

Again, I am just stating the history and any hurdles. Not necessarily my personal opinions.

Cause their window is closing and he knows it. The past 3 years (more actually) have been the best opportunity they’ve had to win a title. And they blew it. TN is getting better, Fl is getting better, their window is fading fast. Here’s to another 40 years

I honor your words. Does that matter to the three people I know that got it or the emergency room nurse that lives across the street and had to quarantine? Which family member of yours do you choose to survive it but have permanent kidney damage?

I’m sorry that your friend has permanent damage. My great-grandmother passed from complications involving the flu in 2015. Why would I expect the entire world to go into quarantine because of it? Sickness happens and it sucks.
