Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

I think it's understandable for UT to not be aggressive about NIL until the NCAA stuff is completely behind them. They'll lose some good players in the short term, but I don't doubt that they'll get on equal footing to other programs at some point.

Disagree on the investigation having anything to do with NIL competitiveness. But indeed they'll figure it out in due time. Just not right now.

I think this staff has definitely been fighting some tough circumstances and is going to land a decent class. I think the 2023 class is going to be the real indicator of how this staff will do in recruiting and I'm sure the NIL situation will be in a better place next year.

There is no miracle NIL lmao. This Sphyre company is a damn joke. They tried to sell it on that podcast with VQ but naw player they're still light years away from the rest of the world. It was embarrassing what they came talking about to Zach and other recruits.

The truth emerges…Not surprised that the UTAD is behind our competition.

You still didn’t answer my ? What make Simpson better than Jackson other than a ranking by recruiting services. Do you tell your NPA kids that your recruiting ranking is what matters.

I'm glad its there. It's a start.

Should they have been farther ahead and more prepared than they are? Absolute.

Did we entertain yet another UT sponsored public carnival in 2020? Absolute.

Mizzou is UT mid 2010's. We finally have stability. Now, spend the time and money on NIL.

Sorry but we've listened and the kid was highy disappointed. TCU smoked Sphyre crumb ass offer. It was an utter joke. NIL is killing UT in a very LARGE way.
Was going to be funny is the ncaa is going to investigate these big spenders soon. Wanting their cut

Not as funny when IRS comes calling wanting 35% of this kind of cash. Sad thing most of these kids have no clue of this. In CHRIST Alone
If you're organizing a NIL deal involving this kind of money, I would think you would add some simple financial and tax advice to sweeten and complete the deal... At least I would..

Personally, I'm happy that we're not paying."mercenaries". These coaches have worked hard to build a particular culture. I feel that if you do things the right way, we will still find success and maintain it. I would happily keep the vultures away from the program. That's just my opinion though. At the end of the day, it's about what kind of person you are. I would rather help build young men of integrity

Do you a Coach like Heupel might be turned off by kids wanting big NIL money. Look at his path to be a college football player at Oklahoma and being a Heisman runner up.

NIL shouldn't be your #1 recruiting pitch. If that is a player's main focus, then walk away. Heupel comes from humble beginnings and has old school values. Look at the type of men he surrounded himself with on his staff. He cares about the kids and how he impacts them as human beings. You don't have to sell your soul to be a winner, and you don't want player's seeking "30 pieces of silver".

Spyre or Sphyre they are doing what they said and it's a joke. TCU even waxed their puiny offer

In the absence of universal governmental and NCAA rules, what is the maximum businesses in Tennessee can offer? Alabama? Texas? Do you know for a fact they could all make identical offers if that was their desire? I can't find a definitive comprehensive resource that defines any of this. School allowed involvement in the process also seems to be state dependent right now. I would GUESS in the end the NCAA cannot define the former but will be allowed to establish the relationship the school can have with outside organizations and students in the process.

Unless you have these answers in your pocket, slinging barbs at any institution over NIL offerings from their related businesses is not reasonable or rational. I doubt any school would discourage any business from any amount of money.

This is no surprise. If anyone did a little research on them and the two guys running it then they would realize they are just trying to get in on the NIL while it's still fresh and have some initial backing from former alumni. Everything with the VQ podcast was purely PR.

I'd enjoy more insight on what UT is trying to do and if we are even pushing for the real players to make some sizable NIL deals.

The intended purpose for NIL was to allow student athletes to earn some income, instead of the schools or other entities profiting alone from amateur athletes. It was never intended to allow kids fresh out of high school to earn 6-7 figures a year. Bryce Young will be the exception, not the rule. Giving these kids ridiculous amounts of money, without earning it, will remove the student part of student- athlete. I used Bryce Young as an example, because very few will be handed a million dollars at 18, and continue to work their a$$ off. A large percentage won't make it to the NFL, and the merit of getting a degree will have been devalued.
