Report says box cutter was visible in left hand. His right hand was in his pocket. He quickly pulls his right hand out holding a silver object, pointing it at the officers.
I dunno man. Wait till the TBI report comes out to pass judgment. Wth do I know.

How about not pointing what appeared to be a weapon at the police? 346 officers were shot in the line of duty in 2021 and 63 of those killed. If a person points a potential weapon at the police, the police do not put their guns down, wait to find out what is pointing at them, or wait until the suspect shoots first. They take the appropriate action. It is sad that the person chose this path, but the police did what they had to do. It is unfortunate when someone dies, but I do not support the police putting their weapons down when a suspect may have a weapon.

Had to do? I don’t agree. The only way to diffuse this situation was to have a firing squad ready to kill at first movement? There’s more than one way to skin a cat. Bean bags...rubber bullets?!? The man was obviously deranged...doesn’t make him expendable.

Easy say when you get to Monday Morning QB a situation. Until you’ve been in their shoes probably shouldn’t make comments like you know what to do.
It only takes one gun to kill him. I think that's a fair statement to make.

I have watched an FBI training video that says they are trained to do that…. Once shots are fired…. They unload their clips to neutralize the subject.
Seems like overkill. I'm not condemning them for lethal force if they felt it necessary. I wasn't there, I wouldn't know. But it understandably looks bad when so many open fire. Seems reckless. What if one of those shots goes astray and someone else get hurt? The more shots fired, the higher the possibility that happens.

Did the officers have bean bags or rubber bullets? How effective are they? They do need to put money into altering ways to subdue a suspect without killing them….. The other methods are not that effective from my understanding.

They showed a video of a guy with a small knife attacking three cops….. They tried razing him… the guy fought through it all and stabbed one cop in the neck…. The cop barely survived…. They also showed videos of guys being shot that kept charging…. That’s why they are trained to shoot to kill when they decide to open fire.

Center mass. I get it. Still, the number of officers that discharged their weapons was overkill. And officers can still miss.

Agreed

This is simply one of the most ignorant comments ever made as applied to this situation. Obviously you have never trained for or been in a deadly situation. An example of someone who knows absolutely nothing about the subject matter that has been influenced by others who know even less!

I think Weezer's point was less about guns in general and more about how many guns were pulled on a dude with a box cutter.

I agree with this. There are agencies who've spent tons of money on training in these specific scenarios to avoid this very thing.

Wouldnt a bean bag round upside the noggin' be as effective against a box cutter?
Uhmm..you're operating under the assumption they knew it was a box cutter.

P.ease stop with your ignorance!
Yes, because a stray shot from an officer never happens. If that were true, no officer would ever get in trouble for it. That's why they have to account for rounds fired.

I'm not questioning the use of lethal force, but nine officers opening fire is overkill.

Like my daddy said, "Never argue with a fool". I will leave right there while you pontificate on in the fantasy world your mind lives in.

I think you may have handled it the same if you were there….. it’s different talking about it from the couch…. One of my favorite videos was of a pastor who was leading protests against the police…. He was invited to come and go through the cops training segments…. He started out being timid and selective when he shot hos weapon but kept getting shot….. by the end of the training he was running and shooting back over his head…. He wasn’t even looking at what he was firing his gun…. That was caused by the stress of a training exercise…. I couldn’t imagine actually getting shot at or having the violent interactions that cops deal with.

Thank you sir for pointing out just one of the obvious points! Your common sense is very much appreciated!

It was weird why so many were there. It was like old school western execution. I definitely understand why they shot because the idiot had a death wish pulling his right hand out of pocket like he had a gun and pointed it at them. Majority of shots were all instant in reaction to that so it was more of too many officers in one place at same time is why so many shots. What was ridiculous was the azz hole that fired two late shots. The guy was clearly down and blasted and dude shot two delayed shots to make sure job was done.

Nine officers discharged their weapons. Nine.

One, two, hell, even three, I wouldn't see it as a huge deal. But nine?

It doesn't take nine officers.
