Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

When were you there? We were there the first day of Oct..I hate that we only got the one full day in the valley, and the next morning we drove east over Tioga Pass to Mono Lake, stopping at a ton of iconic spots on the way. So we basically had a day and a half.

We were there in August. Lesson Learned. If you stay in Tent Cabins during the summer, you will be very uncomfortably hot. Next time, I might check out: --> <!--. We went through Lake Tahoe on our way to Yosemite and could only see half the valley (fires kept the valley covered in Smoke). Looking at ski slopes there, I decided the 'bunny slopes' suit me just fine.

I get paid mileage reimbusement that was at .55 per mile 3 yrs ago, which was pretty dang good. Today it still sits at .55. Not so good obviously. I asked my boss Friday when/if we would see a rate increase and still waiting on an answer.
I have to drive 70 miles just to get to work every day, I had a really old 32 mpg Cavalier that gave completely out 6 months ago and I sold it for scrap, so now I am stuck driving my 15 mpg Sequoia to work, and I don't have the money to go buy another old 30+mpg beater right now, so either way I am going to be out thousands of dollars this year.

I don't make very much, especially since the pandemic has cut our average hours by eight a week the last year.

Thousands of dollars is a massive deal for me...I am screwed.

Lol. Gas prices were rising well before the war. It started literally when this administration started implementing their energy policies.
Prices started going up the day he axed Keystone, and they have risen steadily ever since, the war only made it much worse, quicker.

I briefly considered cancelling our trip to the west coast and Canada this year. But then a few realities hit me.
-Life is too short, we're not guaranteed next year. And we certainly aren't guaranteed that our health will allow us to enjoy the trip next year.
-There's also no guarantee that prices will be significantly lower next year than they will be this summer. (I'll leave the gov administration out of this, but...)
-Gas prices are only one expense of such a trip, a large one but still only one.
-Maybe a lot of other people will decide to stay home and the parks and roads, etc. will be less crowded. In fact, if enough people stop traveling, demand will decrease and maybe prices will come down a bit.
Well that’s a good point.

Yep...you won't have those pesky lower middle class hordes of people like me getting in your way from now on.

We stayed in Curry Village too, but it was in the high 30s that night, so it felt pretty good.

some folks are either blind or are blind. Prices were high for a good while then they went down for a few year then they are rising again. There is a pattern if people will look. I used to be blind but not any more.

@SmokinBob gives me her rig because the panhandle is on fire and she can’t let it burn. I pay you to drive. I can manage that. Seriously I just can’t pay $10/ gallon and drive 4,000 miles at 8 mpg. Mathing that out…
🤔 😏 💀

I quit HS and learned a trade instead of going to college, and I was extremely good at it, and I made a lot of money...until my body fell apart in my mid thirties. I thought I would be installing flooring until retirement age...but nope.

I wish I had been smart enough to go to college...but I hated school with a passion, and I liked working in construction, so I did what I did. I did really well for a long time outside of a few years when I got sidetracked by drugs...heck even made a ton of money then, I just blew it all.

Agressive anti-fossil fuel policy-agenda = high gas prices....period.

Hell...it is the whole point behind the agenda, I don't know why so many low middle class people buy that "we care about you more" 🦬💩. That is all it is...pure 🦬💩
Could be wrong, but, prices could have more to do with futures and uncertainty about supply and demand. The alaskan pipeline isnt some miracle elixir. There has to be a paradigm shift. We have to see that driving a 1/2 ton pickup around with no scratches or dirt in bed, perhaps is a freedom we can enjoy, but at some point we've consumed everything.

Cuz they have become dependent just like the poor on gov't assistance and believing gov't knows what's best for them.

Ive been thinking about this gas issue.
I'd say its simply that supply was cut sharply during the pandemic as demand went way down. Now we are out of it and demand has shot up while supply takes longer to meet demand. Due to the lag, prices have shot up.
I know everyone wants to have someone to blame and your two party system has got all the answers for you.
Maybe for once it isnt politics? Even with keystone pushing all the shale it can handle we still would not be meeting demand.
I think supply will catch up but short term it might be painful. Maybe the feds can suspend the federal gas tax. That would help. Thats all I got.

This is lunacy. We do not give up what we enjoy because a government enacts policies that makes it hard to live and prosper. We change the government and elect someone who has better policies. You know, the opposite of what happened in 2020.

What’s next with this mindset? “You know, meat prices are rising but, that’s really a luxury we enjoy that we don’t need. We should all go vegan instead of trying to solve the problem.”

No thanks on the big Guv “control me more” mindset
