Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

This is lunacy. We do not give up what we enjoy because a government enacts policies that makes it hard to live and prosper. We change the government and elect someone who has better policies. You know, the opposite of what happened in 2020.

What’s next with this mindset? “You know, meat prices are rising but, that’s really a luxury we enjoy that we don’t need. We should all go vegan instead of trying to solve the problem.”

No thanks on the big Guv “control me more” mindset

I feel you may have missed the point of the poster but I'm going to do my best not to be political on here.

No. The point is that it is not the place of our government to enact policies that pick winners or losers. If EV's are great and wonderful and can do the jobs that we need them to do then people will demand and buy more EV's. If they can't then people will continue to buy gasoline/diesel vehicles. It is called the free market. Everything the government touches gets more expensive until many of the poorest people cannot afford it and have to depend on the government to survive. Healthcare, college tuition, childcare, housing, food, etc all have gotten more expensive and are all things that the government has a role in. Cars, household goods, clothing, toys, and electronics have all gone down in price and guess what....the government has little to no role in those market segments. Really weird. Of course now the government is trying to force people into EV's so what do you think is going to happen to the price? You can bet your caboose that they will go through the roof. The government must shrink and stop trying to be the nanny.

Amen!

Gas prices are most expensive they have ever been in US history

We're all just so spoiled. Who needs cars, really? They're just luxury items. Time to break out the bicycle and just be thankful.

It cost me over $40 to fill up my sedan that gets close to 30 MPG. Pre-covid, it would cost roughly half of that. Yeah, but our current policies are helping the little guy. I can absorb it to some point. Inflation hurts the lower income folks hard but the elites don't really care about the little guy. They only use them for votes.

Exactly. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that gas prices have been astronomical under Barry and Joe and low under Trump. Sounds like there's a lot of bipartisan support right now for ramping up production in America. Hopefully the climate nazis will care more about the polls like they usually do so that these prices come down. This is absurd. Everywhere around me is over $4/gallon now.

We completely changed our summer plans because of it. We were going to rent an RV and drive. Now we are not sure what we will do. It won't involve driving very far though.

Guess it depends how far for vacation. I mean, you can go to Knoxville to Charleston, SC and back on 24 gallons of your 30 mpg vehicle. So even if gas were to go up by $3/gal and still there months from now, you're talking just $72 extra. Call it $80 with day travel. The cost of taking the family to mcdys a few times. Not sure I'd shift vacation location over that, but jmo. That said, RVs probably get awful mileage I assume and if you're going to somewhere like...the Grand Canyon in one, yeah that could set ya back a decent extra bit! Then again, compared to hotel prices these days...might be a wash lol. Lord knows ya can't grab a hotel around here for less than 200-250. Cheap airbnbs are the best we have been able to do recently when we're feeling thrifty. Airbnb gift cards are basically all we ask for christmas/birthday anymore.

Just curious, where were you planning to take the family for vaca in an RV? I've always wanted to get one just for Bonnaroo to try one out on our own. My parents have had a few and now my wife wants one...don't think she realizes how little we'd use it before retirement 😑

Could be wrong, but, prices could have more to do with futures and uncertainty about supply and demand. The alaskan pipeline isnt some miracle elixir. There has to be a paradigm shift. We have to see that driving a 1/2 ton pickup around with no scratches or dirt in bed, perhaps is a freedom we can enjoy, but at some point we've consumed everything.

My plans are f'd...another year f'd of the few decent ones I have left on earth to go and do the one thing I really love to do anymore.

My civic reads that it is getting 49 mpg, which in reality, its probably about 44 mpg. I make decent money and am just as pissed as most Americans about the fuel prices.

Just because someone is well off and/or has a very fuel efficient vehicle, doesn't mean they shouldn't be upset about paying for a product that is triple where it was 2 years ago, caused mostly, by simply, the change in leadership.

P.s. @Glitch this isn't directed at you, only with you. Just wanted to get that out there. Lol

Regular unleaded went up to $4.09 here in Mid. TN today and diesel is $4.99-$5.19 . Policies, rules and regulations put in place by the current admin are way more responsible for this than Russia invading Ukraine, that's for sure. Is it Nov. 2024 yet?

Heard a statement from the Alaskan governor yesterday that due to current policies and regulation, the pipeline is only being used at about 25% of their capacity. If they could ramp up to near full capacity, it would make up for all we buy from Russia and then some. But like Biden said yesterday, don't blame me, blame Russia lol.

Ridiculous

Wanted to post something about how the government has not affected gas prices, its a global supply issue but everyone would freak out by the source so nevermind.

OIL SHORTAGE = HIGH GAS PRICES

A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country.
~~~
Well, there's a very simple answer.
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
We just didn't know we were getting low.
The reason for that is purely geographical.
Our OIL is located in:
ALASKA
California
Coastal Florida
Coastal Louisiana
Coastal Alabama
Coastal Mississippi
Coastal Texas
North Dakota
Wyoming
Colorado
Kansas
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
And Texas
Our dipstick is located in the White House!
Any Questions?
NO?
Didn't think So.
We were talking about going to Yellowstone. I had started planning but I don't think we are going to do it this year. We will figure something out and have a good time because we will be together.
Also, not taking three teenage girls plus my wife and myself any kind of distance in my Volvo S40 sedan. Lol. Five, basically grown, adults in that car would be an epic disaster.
In the short term, sure. In the long term, I disagree. You get more of what you subsidize and less of what you tax. Since governments control subsidies and taxation, they set the long term growth rate. Gas could easily be $1 if that were the government emphasis.
I am absolutely of the belief that we need to be moving toward less use of fossil fuels, and there is a reasonable argument that higher fuel prices make it financially expedient to do so, but too much too fast is destructive to the people least capable of adapting.
