Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

I really hate that we divide people into groups because of skin color. I don’t care why you’re doing it. I hate it.

They do it so we will be to busy bickering and arguing amongst ourselves to just be Americans and see where the real problems in the country are really located.

We should be long past discussing skin color. People should just be people. But unfortunately I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Ideally, sure. But idealism shouldn't blind us to reality when there is so much racially biased hiring and implicit biases (all of this is based on actual research and implicit bias tests show it is rampant in America...fwiw that doesn't make someone "racist"...it's just that we've been programmed. I've taken a number of them and could literally feel my brain working overtime on the Christian vs Muslim test...it came out saying I had a slight bias against Islam/Muslims...that's 20 years of media programming, same goes for race in America unfortunately).
There are things about Christianity and Islam that may very well matter in such an evaluation. A biblical Christian will say that a lie is wrong in all cases... that obedience is required and God deals with outcomes. Islamic doctrine permits lying to non-Muslims in some situations... in fact it is "noble" to do it well. The Bible teaches it is a man's responsibility to sacrifice himself for his wife and family. Fundamentalist Islam makes the wife a second class person and permits honor killings.

So the supposed "biases" may not be wrong when they impact a meaningful job qualification.

So when there is hiring bias and underrepresentation, then questions are asked. Again, hopefully one day this isn't an issue. That's exactly why people are working on it.
The answer can never be quotas. I think we realize how ridiculous that notion is when applied to scholarship offers... yet somehow we apply it to coaching hires?

Are there cases when assumptions are made about white athletes? Are there biases causing some to assume a white kid can't be a "fast" WR or a RB or a DB? Sure. But you can never fix that by requiring teams to have a certain number of white kids on the roster. Is it possible or even likely that the absolute "best" coaches are now earning a check? Yes. There might even by racial or cultural biases in a small number of cases. But you cannot fix that with quotas.

It may also be easy for us, in the power majority, to disregard it. You won't see many on the other side agreeing with the status quo. I try to put myself in their shoes, because many of my best friends have told me enough stories to feel saddened by it all. Empathy and understanding is important. Our America isn't always their America.
Not advocating the status quo. I'm advocating a devotion by ALL to justice. To rewarding people according to their individual abilities and not some artificial factor. I'm advocating what MLK preached- a society where we recognize that there is ONE and ONLY ONE race.

The current proposals for dealing with real and imagined inequities will NOT make anything better. They will only increase bitterness and division.

Our entire defensive staff are minorities except Ekler. 6 out of 10 overall.

For the record, Kentucky only has 4 out of 10.

Tired, and divisive rhetoric that is clearly just a ploy used for their own personal benefit. Even though it isn’t even a factual statement.

Few things chap my ass like outright lies.

Please keep your prison shower stories to yourself. 😂😂

It's hard to start an idealistic argument with an assertion that idealism won't work. Quotas are trying to enforce a certain ideal.

The problem with quotas is that they are proposing giving something TO someone based on their skin color in response to the belief that things were taken away FROM people because of that skin color. But when you give something TO one person, it's been taken FROM another. So, arguing for quotas is literally just arguing FOR the thing one just claimed is evil and needs to be righted.

It's a self-defeating, self-incriminating argument.

The ideal should be a society where decisions are made on merit, independent of race. If one believes that that is impossible, so we should just implement past evils in the other direction, they are part of the problem IMHO.
