A agree with this.

I was accused of being sensitive to it, and I guess that is true. It hurt me to let someone go who had worked for me for that long. I bent over backward to prevent it. I feel that others are too quick or comfortable with doing so.
I think most situations get handled like you handled that situation. The ones that result in quick firings or resignations are often very public and the company/university is faced with a PR situation instead of just an HR situation. Fortunately those don't make up the majority and corrective actions can be taken instead of a termination.

That's fair and it makes your response more understandable.

I guess what doesn't translate is that to me the whole situation was really a "non story". Had UT done nothing I wouldn't have cared or fussed, but I also feel like companies who are paying their employees have the freedom to treat situations how they see fit so I also didn't care or fuss about the "resignation" when it happened.

Your personal experience, you gave far more opportunities than I would have in the same situation.

There are a few cranky older guys on here, but I've found age to soften me and increase my tendency towards grace. I joke with my wife often that with each passing year I'm convinced that I truly "know" less and less, even though I can cite more facts. By my death I'm convinced that I will know nothing at all.

The one thing I do get cranky over is when I perceive that others lack grace, which I confess is pretty ironic. I see that as a future point of personal growth, but I'm not there yet.

Agreed, declining to hire someone and firing existing employees are very different things. I'd never fire someone for tweeting rap lyrics a decade ago if they were willing to admit it wasn't the best idea and agree not to do it again.

I try to approach every conversation about any potentially controversial topic with a "what if I'm wrong" mindset. Unfortunately, most people who really want to talk about stuff like that don't have that same mindset and it's pretty pointless talking to them. The internet and social media have provided them enough validation already, evidently, and they just make it their job to spread their truth. We definitely need more grace and less crankiness.

Is there really a right and wrong to most controversial issues? If so, is there ever a way to prove it? There's no way to objectively say if someone is right or wrong on most issues that people argue about, right?

I'm not sure if it's grace exactly, but I generally don't care in most situations. Some people take that as a negative, but personally I'd rather most people approach me with the same level of apathy I have towards them.

Because ultimately I've truly only gotta answer to myself, if I can live with the choices I make I for sure don't care what anyone else has to say about them. And I approach others with the assumption that they don't care about my thoughts on the topic, the choice to share or not share is on me not them.

That's where I'm at as well...although I'm not quite as blunt about it lol.

She got into a public figure role and probably sat through countless hours of lectures and read all about PR and precautious that should be made on social media.

So the fault isn't tweeting something when just a teenager...it's not being aware enough as an adult IN a media related career to not realize you should remove it before you start throwing stones.
If she is like some on Twitter that could be 5,000 plus tweets ago…. She probably didn’t remember making it or that it was there…. It would be smart to clear all social media and start fresh.

Bud Light lost market share? I thought they were owned by Inbev?
Every beer brand has x amount of market share. I'm not sure why the parent company matters in the discussion. Heinz ketchup has x amount of ketchup share, why does it matter that Kraft Heinz owns them?

In all fairness, if this happens in a state with legal marijuana? Is he even arrested?
Depends. They were found in a vehicle. Were they attempting to operate said vehicle? That's illegal, even in states where marijuana is legal, because it's DUI. Also, were the guns registered or were they illegal guns?

You skipped over the "multiple guns found", so probably arrested even without da weed.
it was a snapshot of a link.

I mean if 'multiple guns' were found, legally...

It's when multiple guns are found with 'drugs.' Jails are full of 'violent criminals' who got caught with marijuana, gun makes it a violent crime.

Legalize it, tax it. Pay for schools, safety upgrades, SRO's, and save money expunging stupid marijuna incarcerations.

Didnt say.

DWI is a different charge all together.

Alabama is an open carry state, just like TN. As long as someone is not a felon and the gun isn’t stolen or it’s not possessed with a felony amount of drugs, that person is free to carry.

Legalizing it and taxing it makes it much more expensive than the black market, so really all you're doing is legalizing it.

Edit actually there is decent revenue from marijuana. I'm shocked people will pay double and triple for the legal version. I guess my cynicism is a little too extreme.

People pay 3 times the amount because of the cleanliness of the product. I suppose its the same reason people will pay $10 for a pack of Marlboros versus Lucky Strike, or whatever people
smoke these days. you get the point
