As long as this one ends up at Tennessee like he did that would be great. Dude is solid in coverage and has great ball skills
Because you've reviewed his "film", right?

He may be great. But you need to stop pretending you have some sort of information and expertise that makes you an authority on recruits and recruiting. Have you seen anything more than his cherry picked highlights? Do you even know how to review and break down REAL film?

Yes I do know how to evaluate film. Someone doesn’t have to be a college or NFL coach/scout to know a good football player when they see one. Unfortunately there’s not any actual film on him. So fans only get to see highlights, and his look great for it being his first year playing corner. I’ve also never claimed to be an authority on recruiting. I’ve just questioned some decisions that Willie has made on some of the players he’s taken over others. Forgive me for questioning a coach’s ability that has done nothing but field poorly coached defensive back rooms in the years he’s been at Tennessee. So lose the hard on and go on about your day

Really? Because we've had some guys around that were qualified... and you do not show it. And don't go read someone else's eval on one of these kids so you can pretend.

To some degree that's true. However you do need data... you need to watch every game and focus on the player. It helps if you can get him in a controlled setting for a work out. Ideally you match him up against an opponent who can truly challenge him... in this case a CFB level QB and WR.

So since you claim to speak with authority and know this 4* is better than a 3* that you don't think highly of... have you done that? My suspicion is that you haven't done it for any recruit that you have praised or dismissed... even assuming you are qualified to actually do a quality evaluation.

You really don't have to be a college or NFL coach/scout to know a good football player when you see one. But that isn't even what this is about. This is about evaluating and projecting a HS recruit's talent. And you really think you are qualified to do that?

Take your own advice. You're the one who thinks highly of yourself and gets all worked up over a highlight video.

There’s been 1 recruit we’ve been involved with that I thought was a bad take (Conyer) in comparison to other targets we’ve had (Scott). He was being recruited by our staff as a corner and in his senior highlights you could count on your hands the amount of passes he defended and a majority of his PBUs were on poorly thrown balls. His offensive highlights didn’t really display his ball skills either. When I see that I think to myself “if these are his highlights what does he look like the other 80-90% of the time?” apparently it wasn’t good enough to get offers from any other SEC schools besides Vandy and Kentucky. I even recall seeing a poster on here from the BG area that stated coaches in the area were never too impressed with him either. Could Willie see something in him that makes him think he could turn him into a great player? Perhaps, but because of the lack of development he has been able to show on the field this time around combined withe the fact piss poor DB play that can be directly attributed to bad coaching cost us 2 Florida games and nearly cost us the 2016 Georgia game and 2 god awful QBs has the games of their lives against our secondary last year I’m not sure I trust that to happen. So I personally would’ve preferred getting a guy that played at an elite level against some of the best HS competition in the country that nearly every coach in the country wanted in their secondary that was a little less of a project and more of a sure thing. As far as this class goes I think we’re in contention for a lot of solid corners. I just think Ify was the best prospect by a pretty significant margin that we realistically had a shot at landing

No. You've been generally critical of who the staff has taken commitments from and how they're managing the roster.

So you watched highlight videos from these two players which may or may not accurately represent the other 95% of plays they played and feel qualified to say the staff and the professional recruiting consultants they employ were DEFINITELY wrong?

That's the thing with you and you do it consistently. You speak in dramatic certainty when neither your reasoning nor your grasp of the relevant facts are sufficient to do that.

I don't claim to know how good he is. I do know that a lot of the things that really good recruiters look for aren't apparent to a layman or in film much less highlight videos. I also don't know why they didn't push for Scott harder though I think just based on highlight videos that your over-hyped assessment is incorrect. The "rumor" passed around was that there might have been off field concerns.

Also with respect to highlight videos... they're not equally well made. Some are essentially done by professionals. Some are done by a player's Uncle Joe. There are companies out there that specialize in creating those videos to help get a recruit offers.

We all have opinions. That's fine and what makes this place fun. Just don't pretend you're more qualified than you actually are.

It looks they wanted Ify. They didn't get him. I can't tell you why. There are too many reasons to count why recruits choose a particular school. Some want a smaller town. Some want a city. Some want a fanbase and all of the pressure that goes with it like SEC schools have. Some want a more laid back fanbase. Some want to be close to home. Some want to be as far away as possible. It could be something just as simple as seeing Eugene as an escape from a place as repressive as Baltimore.

My point which you consistently seem not to get is that a coaching staff can do absolutely everything "right" and still not win a commit. Sometimes a program or fanbase or fans or boosters or local media or someone else directly associated with a team screws up a recruitment. But more times than not it is simply a matter of a kid choosing what they believe to be the best option... not that other options weren't great.
