Some stats:

Tennessee rushing attack ranks 2nd in the SEC (behind LSU) at 222 yrds/gm, but ranks 8th in yrds/attempt, tied with SC at 4.6 yrds/carry.

Alabama ranks 3rd in the country and 1st in the SEC in rushing defense only allowing 71 yrds/gm and 2.44 yrds/carry. They've allowed only one rushing TD this season.

This will be one key to the game IMO, whether we can rush the ball against this stingy Bama D. I think the only way we can run the ball is if we can pass the ball with success.

I just hope the Vols come out with a good game plan, with lots of wrinkles ready for their adjustments in the second half. And I hope the bye week helps us get healthy and get some of our best play-makers back on the field.

Some more match up stats:

Alabama ranks 5th in the SEC in passing at 231 yrds/game while Tennessee's pass defense ranks 13th only in front of ARK giving up 248 yrds/game.

On the other hand, our Vols rank 12th in the SEC at 212 yrds/game throwing the ball while Bama ranks 5th in the SEC against the pass giving up 201 yards/game.

Dobbs is by far the most dangerous running QB they will have faced this year. If we're going to win, he's going to have to be electric and open everything else up with his legs.

The teams that have scored the most points against them are spread teams. 37 for Ole Miss and 23 for A&M. Neither of which has a QB that runs well.

Bama hasn't proven they have the formula to shut down our running game yet. History suggests this is the exact type of offense that gives them trouble.

I think if we can avoid the backbreaking mistakes in this game and limit them from making big plays. We are going to be right in it for 4 quarters.

It's time to win.

I agree with this. I will say I think it will come down to how well we can pass the ball. If we can't show we can pass the ball Alabama will simply place a spy on Dobbs and mirror him. We have to be able to punish them by throwing the ball effectively. Arkansas pretty much just put a safety mirroring Dobbs and we couldn't run the ball. What's sad is we couldn't exploit it against them by throwing it against the worst passing defense in the league.

The biggest thing that scares me the most about the Alabama D is their linebackers. They have big, fast linebackers.

I think this is one of the times we should be mature and honest with ourselves.
Having said that I hope we beat those inbred , behind on the trailer payment, looking for love at the family reunion, bathing optional, twelve sandwich eating , poopy heads.

They are going to force us to throw, we need a healthy dose of dobbs option game with roll outs that offer the threat of running. We have to move the pocket, and dobbs will need 100 plus rushing yards in this game. We cant start off series throwing short screens and wasted crap plays that put us behind on 2nd down. We need to involve the TE more and run power plays with hurd to keep the defense from bringing the house every play. Long developing stretch plays are going to be a waste against Bama. This is smash mouth football at its finest....

If Florida is any indication, VOLS seem to play well in a hostile environment. We just need to play loose like last year when Dobbs came in (without spotting them the huge lead)...

Alabama has two turnovers and a lot of short runs in 1st half 10-7 halftime UT, 14-10 Bama after 3 and 17-14 down the stretch, Barnett and Reeves Maybin save the win. 17-14 UT.

We may not win, but I'm expecting Dobbs to be good. He will keep it interesting

My 78 y/o dad made mention a couple of weeks ago and it is definitely true, win or lose, the Vols have been entertaining to watch this year. That hadn't been the case the last several years.

The bammers are deeper, bigger, more physical, faster, and well coached. Our guys will have to play way over their heads and with a chip on their shoulder to win. Most important of all they have to believe they can beat the bammers. :twocents:

Bama is actually beatable this year. They're not the unstoppable force of years past. If we can keep our defense rested we can win this game like any other.

Yeah that's a great point. Against the Hogs we failed to convert on 3rd and longs the whole second half. We got some of those against Georgia. Some of them were lucky. We might need a little more of that magic this week.

I'm hoping that we really did turn a huge mental corner since finally winning a big game. We're a young but really really talented team. Confidence and momentum could carry this team a lot farther than it could a Tennessee team 2 or 3 years ago.

This could be the beginning of our run.

I will continue to say this until it happens.

We won't be "back" til we beat Bama. This is the best shot we've had to get them in years.

I hope they overlook us. I hope the whole country overlooks us. Go ahead, look forward to LSU.

We're a mean snake in the corner of the room that nobody has noticed yet. Everybody is just standing around laughing and having drinks thinking everything is fine. Nope.

Tennessee should and will be angry in this game. If you're not going to believe now, when are you going to believe?

Let's gooooooo!!!

Crap it's only Monday still.

We have to stop the deep pass. Ridley could give our secondary fits. Match Cam up on him, load the box and make Choker beat you through the air. Offensively just take care of the ball. Our hole in the kicking game could bite us this game I feel. But screw it, I'm riding with the Vols.

31 Vols
28 Bama

Not feeling good about this game, but then again I wasn't feeling good about UGA either. If UT is gonna have a chance here I really think we're gonna need some help from Bama (2-3 turnovers, possibly giving up a special teams score). I know it's possible we win but for now I'm going to lean towards not with the way Alabama is running the ball and our struggles against Arky.

34-23 Alabama, but feeling optimistic about the rest of the season regardless of what happens in this one.

Vols win 9-6

Dobbs runs in the only TD of the game. Barnett gets his first safety!
Red Team kicks two long FG and never cross the TN 20 yd line.

It angers me so much that UGA player took Tuttle out. He was having a great season and would have been a huge part of our defensive scheme for this game.

I'm thinking he means we line up Barnett to get it out of endzone, which goes horribly awry and they get a safety. Also, they get two more safeties to get to 6 points.

How do we get to nine with Dobbs getting touchdown? :loco:
