Excited to see Justin Martin in some meaningful time. I think the kid has a lot of pride and we could use that saturday. Plus I don't think they'll throw deep too much. They'll dink and dunk and he actually tackles pretty well IYAM.

Sure thing.

Take Hurd away from this offense the last two years and how do you think it performs?

I'm with Chavis. We will miss Hurd a lot, especially if we keep having a crappy OL. Hurd would have been so much better off at most other top 25 programs where the offense/play calls are determined by personnel instead of a stubborn coach's personal preference. Kelly won't get positive yards when he's getting popped 3 yards behind the LOS

The notion that Hurd doesn't fit our offense is absurd. Great coaches adjust the scheme to fit the talent. I will let you guys draw your own conclusion on that one.
Hurd is no different that Jonathan Stewart or Lagaret Blunt at Oregon or even Michael Dyer at Auburn.
All physical backs who were allowed to get downhill In their spread offense.
Kelly is talented but his sample size is so small that we don't get to critique his vision , cuts or ability to make people miss.
True, true.

Dobbs is going to have to run on every drive. He may have more rushing yards than anyone else

Hurd would be in NYC this December if our coaches would give him a lead blocker and the OL had gotten better, not worse.

He's not heisman good.

I disagree. Hurd would kill it with a dominating OL. He's going to break UT's all time rushing record behind a bad OL and worse schemes. I formation, downhill attack, with a good to great OL and Hurd's collecting hardware.

Or maybe our scheme and o line isn't so bad when it comes to running the football.

To be fair, UT's all-time rushing record is terrible. An average back who rushes for 900 yards/year for 4 seasons would shatter it.

I watched the MI/FL Citrus Bowl thanks to One Hour football on Youtube ( great channel..) yesterday. Florida took several down field chances along with a 30 yard failed fake field goal with two other trick plays. One trick was a QB fake audible that scored a touchdown on goal to go. I visualized a variation of it where the QB fakes miscommunication due to crowd noise and they snap to a different player etc.

Otherwise, while the MI QB made some legit throws their secondary was very poor and MI had plenty of success running the ball with a lead blocker, off/between tackles.

Hurd is not much different from last year's Heisman Winner whatsoever, except he is maybe harder to bring down. Put him behind that line and I could easily see him holding the trophy as well.

No, it is. It's really bad.

And yet....

Team Records

The Vols were just 161 yards short of breaking their team record for most rushing yards in a season. The 2015 Vols finished with 2,908 yards and the 1951 squad had 3,068 yards. Meaning if they had just played one more game last year, the 2015 Vols likely would’ve had that mark. If the team makes it to Atlanta this year along with their 12 regular season games and a bowl game (or playoffs if they’re really good), then they have a very good chance of breaking that record this year.

Tennessee’s record for total offense could also be broken this year. Last year’s team, once again, fell just short of that mark. The 1997 team totaled 5,794 yards during that season, and last year’s offense piled up 5,490 yards. This year’s team could definitely break that record.

The record for most yards per game in a season is also a record this year’s team could break. Last year’s team averaged 422.3 yards a contest, and the 1997 team holds the record with 482.8 yards a game. Tennessee’s offense could certainly make it a a closer contest this year.

Another record the Vols fell just short of last year was the team’s scoring record. The 1993 squad scored 471 points, which is the most in Tennessee history. Last year’s Vols team ended up with 457 points. So yes, if Tennessee had scored those 17 points that made up the deficit in their four losses, they would’ve had the scoring record last year too. The Vols figure to have an even more potent offense this year, so breaking that record is also possible.

You could probably count the number of times Hurd has made it past the los without taking a hit on one hand.

He is going to be tremendously missed, and as of yet has not had the chance to show his potential.

I seriously hope that we aren't still in desperate need of a RB who can pickup YAC due to getting hit at the line of scrimmage on every run play in year 5 of Butch's tenure.
