'18 Recruiting Forum: Official Florida Pre-Game/Game Thread

It really was a miscall. UT held off announcing it for a while to be sure about the date. The team looked so much better in practice this summer. UF isn't as good-- and the Vols aren't as bad-- as it looked tonight. But the Vols are a soft, mentally fragile team and they completely imploded. We gave the game away on TOs, then just folded.

UT does it to itself. Fulmer was beyond stupid to do this. Who the heck does a 20th anniversary of a NC anyway?

Pruitt confirmed Sapp refused to go into the game in the 3rd Q so he told him to leave the locker room.

If a guy is bold enough to do something like that it shows that there’s a large portion of the team that isn’t fully committed. He has to get those guys out of there as soon as possible.

This is what I was referring to earlier when I said he cares more about putting his stamp on the program than wins and losses. He's willing to sacrifice this season to make sure it's done his way. Might be the best strategy.

Honestly he might have made a mistake begging Kirkland to come back. If you quit you’re gone and we’re going to be fine without you. That has to be the message. Otherwise guys can kind of half ass it because there’s no reprocussions.

I told Involuntary earlier that we are 4-5 years away at least from having a chance to be relevant. Might be longer if Pruitt can’t sell his vision to get us back soon and be able to land elite talent.
It's gonna be more difficult the more failure we have.
And tonight was a fail.

Just a matter of time with Sapp. Pruitt might as well tell any player who's not 100% in to get 100% out. We can lose just as easily with walk-ons.

Good rittance and I hope he takes all the followers with him. We’re better off with 60 believers than 85 with cancerous cells poisoning the rest.

It’s going to be a long season, but gotta have the faith. We gave catchphrase Jones 5 years. We can give Pruitt the same. Get the cancers out and get the healing started.

That's what ended Butch. Different standards for different players. I do think he handled Kirkland the right way though.

If Pruitt can still reel in a top 10 class with the crapfest that will be on display this season, I think we'll be ok. If not it will send a bad signal to me. What comes first, the cruits or the wins?

He was trying to create excitement around the program and motivate the players. Former players have been around the program a lot with Fulmer back, and they've tried to talk up the team. But trying to re-establish a winning culture with players who're gotten used to losing isn't easy. The team wasn't ready to play tonight and they didn't respond well to adversity-- and that wasn't due to the 20th. That's a team problem, and we're going to see more of it until the team toughens up.

I get that, but wrong way to go about trying to get excitement back into the program. Again, this program has shot it's own nuts off for a decade. You don't just go out there and say, "Hey guys! We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of our only memorable NC! Ain't that cool!?" You give it a year or two with Pruitt or any other new coach before you do anything higher profile like that. Now we are a laughing stock and most likely killed any hope this team had in itself. The marketing dude advising Fulmer is also to blame for this as he didn't drug Fulmer so he couldn't announce this.
