'19 Recruiting Forum: Official Florida Pregame/Game Thread

I would agree if this were a typical program. I’m not entirely convinced we (our money guys) really want to win.

They don't care about winning. They just want to be in control. The Schiano debacle, fan revolt, and Fulmer coup embarrassed them. They will waste no time sticking it to everyone they believe "crossed them" if they can regain an inkling of power. They also have plenty of people in their corner due to their own money and influence.

Pruitt already knows he's dead man walking and looks to be on medication... i am serious.... I mean damn, I got fooled again... I've been defending this dude to everyone saying we FINALLY have a real football coach... Right now I can't point to one single thing he is currently doing right... Poor on field and off field execution weekly. Getting out-coached by lesser staffs... We have some talent and could at least be playing disciplined, basic, hard-nosed football with it, keeping things respectable. But he's not... 3-4 personal fouls, holding, false starts, running into the kicker, not using timeouts, not sticking with what works on O, making zero adjustments at the half on D, not changing up the looks, etc...
@Aesius you may be right, coaching search by November 2020

UT is a big job for a rookie HC. Add a rebuild, some unmotivated players and a disgruntled fanbase sick of losing, and it's overwhelming.

Still, this season has been inexplicable. With the experience on this staff and the talent on this team, we should be 3-1 right now. Even with SEC losses to come, we shouldn't be facing the possibility of an historically bad season.
Yet here we are. Again.

Y’all are kidding yourselfs if you think it’s impossible for Pruitt to get fired this year. If we’re 1-7 and getting blown out every game, Phil will intervene. He doesn’t care about money and buyouts.

Take that to the Fn bank.
lol Fulmer doesn't get to act unilaterally. We all hate this, but money has always been an issue so why would that change now? Anyone know what the buyout is for Pruitt and his entire staff? I've heard 13 mil at least, but not really sure. Then what? Hire another google coach on the cheap as Pruitt's players hit the transfer portal? Or do you expect boosters to finally pony up enough money for a big time coach after paying all the buyouts? They haven't in the past so why would they now? And let's not kid ourselves, the only attractive thing about this job anymore would be cash.

It's not that I think Pruitt can get it done, but with the money we're talking, I don't see him getting fired this year and getting replaced with a coach worth a damn.

If we hired Cutcliffe, this program really has given up. Would be slightly more exciting than hiring a corpse.
We’ve said this for the past 10 years and regretted it every time. I don’t want exciting. I don’t want upside. I want a damn good football coach who knows how to win at Tennessee. Period.

I'm so damn worried that Pruitt doesn't care anymore and actually wants to be fired. I think it's absolutely a possibility that he has realized he doesn't want to be a head coach, and the fact that he's at Tennessee (a program he has hated most of his life) and is facing a massive rebuild only strengthens his distaste for the position he's in.

We should be 4-0 imo. Everyone we’ve played sucks. But in reality, we’re worse.

You don't fire him unless you have someone good like Urban Meyer ready to take the job.

Do you think he can survive a 1 or 2 win season? I still maintain that these are almost always financial decisions based on does it cost you more to keep him versus to pay his buyout. I can't imagine if this season goes as I think it will that the loss in season ticket sales will be much more than the buyouts. If he loses the fan base, the ones that spend money over there, it may be hard to get them back. My one friend that is a major booster over there is distancing himself from the program. At least that's what he tells me.

Hire someone who can recruit to Tennessee because they believe in Tennessee. Because it hurts them to see Tennessee lose every damn week.

Close ranks. Make the state the ultimate priority in recruiting. It’s not a recipe for national championships but at least we’ll have 85 guys who think it’s important to play football in Volunteer Orange. That can take us a long way as we rebuild.

So why are harping on Cut? Dude is a mediocre coach and well over the hill. Zero upside.

And guaranteed booster money to cover it all. People keep saying don't worry about money. You HAVE to worry about the money.

Which is the problem. They keep doing things the way you suggest. They waited a year too long on Dools. Botch tried to leave to go to UNC and they would not let him. So he stayed a season too long. They refuse to hire a proven HC, so they hire an up and comer. Gave him everything he wanted and needed to just fail again.

The buy out will be something they are always paying if they keep doing things the same way. If there are financial constraints and they need to factor the buy out in, go hire a Sunbelt level coach and be mediocre for a few years until it winds down. Then hire the proven HC. Just like InVOL posted - we are 1-2 HC's away from being a real program again.

Who do we go get this year? Urban and the dream hires are exactly that, a dream.

Our best option right now at this moment is Pruitt, and that is a tough pill to swallow because he isn’t it. It’s sad, and quite frankly, an indictment on Fulmer. He has simply shown that he can’t hire coaches. He is a total failure at it.

If, IF, we make the change, I can get on board with a lower level HC that has proven to be competitive against superior talent. But I don’t know who that is.
