And are we ignoring that Pruitt was a Fulmer hire, and now you want to turn over another coaching search to Fulmer? Fulmer is not going to go out and hire a Mike Leach. He's not going to hire a Lane Kiffin. Hell, I'm not even sure he would hire an Urban Meyer(which I'd be okay with because I think he's a douche nozzle but understand some of you like him). So who would he go after? Would it even be him going after a new coach?

Who do we go get this year? Urban and the dream hires are exactly that, a dream.

Our best option right now at this moment is Pruitt, and that is a tough pill to swallow because he isn’t it. It’s sad, and quite frankly, an indictment on Fulmer. He has simply shown that he can’t hire coaches. He is a total failure at it.

If, IF, we make the change, I can get on board with a lower level HC that has proven to be competitive against superior talent. But I don’t know who that is.

You just had one do it in Neyland to start the season. He was OC under Spurrier and interim HC at USCe before that. Arky State has Blake Anderson whose wife has now passed away. He was Fedora's OC at USM and UNC when Fedora was good before going to ASU and winning a couple SunBelts. Both would have a total staff cost of half what is being paid out now, with the savings enough to about pay off all the buyouts. If they can't get it done you have cleared the decks and have no financial issues in hiring the top gun.

Fulmer came into the game after we had embarrassed ourselves nationally via Currie. Most coaches wanted no part of this train wreck. He was handcuffed from the start.

I'm not sure fulmer will be able to make the hire if/When Pruitt is fired. He hired him, he bears some of the responsibility of his success or failure.

He could have pursued Les Miles. He chose not to. He had options.

He did have options, but not many. Miles didn't look like an attractive option at the time. He still may not be. Going after a proven, championship-level SEC coordinator that was getting job offers was a decent bet at the time.

I think this rebuild was more to take on then he thought it was

Honestly but respectfully, I am tired with the rebuild talk. Missouri comes into the SEC and is competitive from Day 1; Kentucky never recruited real well but became competitive. It is about the players and coaches in Knoxville now

Mizzou had Gary Pinkel and 10+ years of stability and was coming off multiple 10 win seasons. It took Stoops 6 years to make UK competitive.

Do you think he can survive a 1 or 2 win season? I still maintain that these are almost always financial decisions based on does it cost you more to keep him versus to pay his buyout. I can't imagine if this season goes as I think it will that the loss in season ticket sales will be much more than the buyouts. If he loses the fan base, the ones that spend money over there, it may be hard to get them back. My one friend that is a major booster over there is distancing himself from the program. At least that's what he tells me.

IDK what they'll do if the worst case scenario plays out. IDT anybody really thought it would come to that. There is no appetite for a coaching search this year. Randy Boyd has made that clear. There were some big alumni events a few weeks ago and football was a hot topic. Talk of a coaching change was shut down fast. It's more than financial-- UT does not want to go through that again this year. But then, UT doesn't want to go through any of this again. Yet here we are.

I hate to jump on the we suck bandwagon but damn
We need to just let all underclass men play
This is bad
Worse I’ve ever seen us
Firing coaches won’t help now
Ride with young guys we have and see what happens in the offseason
I agree. If you're going to stick with Pruitt beyond this year, he needs to totally use this year to get ready for next year. If you're going to lose, lose with a purpose of letting upperclassmen gain experience. Use this season as a practice season.

It’ll take the doomsday scenario, i.e., 1-11/2-10/3-9, but Fulmer could make a change if he wanted to.

It might take getting a solid yes from the replacement beforehand.
