'19 Recruiting Forum: Official Georgia State Pregame/Game Thread

The problem is going to be recruiting. We were on the verge of really loading up on elite talent that could have had us competing for the division as early as next year. What's going to happen now? If he can light a fire under this zombie team and they come out, smack BYU in the mouth and get a statement W, then maybe he can salvage it. If not and recruiting nosedives... well, we've seen that movie and we hated it the first time.
And.... recruiting hasn’t been good to this point either. It’s dependent on every fringe prospect hitting.

Yes, he can. I've just seen this movie before and I don't see him getting this team back. We've said many times that a lot of recruits are waiting to see the results. This will not only give those recruits doubts but also out doubts in the minds of current commits.

This doesn’t happen to a good coach in year 2. It just doesn’t.

But firing him does nothing for us either. There’s a reason our last search got down to him.

As much as this sucks we’re just going to have to ride it out and hope something turns around. Or hand the reigns to Tee so at least if you suck you’ve got a Tennessee person behind the wheel.
I don't think they'll fire him this year unless it's ends up as truly catastrophic type of season say a 2-3 win season. And don't get me wrong, I'm not calling for his head, I'm simply predicting his fate.

No he won’t be fired this year. But he ain’t the guy.

He might get us to 5 or 6 wins this year - something salvageable - and then maybe 7 or 8 next year. But I’ve seen enough to say he doesn’t have “it.” But I’m skeptical anyone this program could theoretically hire has “it” either.

Minus my Alma Mater, there are only 2 college football teams I give a rats arse about. They are both in a free-fall. I get excited about the coming season, which dawns new hope. What I have to remember is .........

Screw it. Suckage is part of my “fandom” now. I need to accept it and deal with it. I have to love those that hurt me the most. It sucks, but the sun/clouds will be in the sky in the morning. Go Vols.

BTW......thanks “Peay.” 1-0.

No argument from me. We have a systemic problem and it starts below Fulmer, who has granted his HC's every request, including overpaying personnel to build an unbeatable staff. When you're given everything you need to succeed and you just got manhandled in Year 2 by a cupcake team your AD paid a million bucks for an auto-W, it creates doubts by the boatload.

Maybe, maybe not. I think you can attract a very good, established head coach but you have to pay insane amounts of money. And when you think about it, we paid Butch what $8 mil/ year?

We said that before Dooley and Butch. The question is can we afford not to? A drop off of 10% in season ticket sales will be more costly than hanging on to him knowing he's gonna fail. That's what hurt us the last two times. We we fired them both one year too late.

Not disagreeing with you at all. If we had played BYU today and looked this bad I would had said, well I guess first game sloppy play but GS? 2-10 team? I have no clue if another coach would look at us when firing coaches so fast. I don't know anymore. I just don't know if we will ever crawl out of this hole. I just know CP has lost all creds with me.

Don't think that won't be discussed behind many closed doors.
Many fans would love it at this point. We have the assistants. But it’s the head coach’s job to get these kids motivated to play. They came out flat, looking towards BYU, and never found the gas pedal.

I think 2-10 is coming. I really do. Unless one of the backup QBs is another Josh Dobbs and can will us to victory, this team isn't going to beat anyone except UTC and maybe UAB/steal a random win elsewhere that no one expects.

I think that's reasonable at this point.

Yeah there’s a lot of things that can be written off to stuff like inexperience and whatnot, but the total lack of energy from the team from 15:00 in the first all the way through is the single most worrying issue. A team with no fire will never achieve anything worth a damn no matter how much talent is on the field

4-8 or worse might actually get him fired. Wild to think about this being reality right now

If it continues to go south with Pruitt, I think UT will close ranks and hire an alum to put the program in trusted hands, like they did with Kellie Harper. But we have two winnable games on deck. I want to see if the staff can pull the season out of the ashes.

Its is isn't it. How things changed so fast. CP had us right where he wanted us and could have had us still hoping with a 6-6 season and a bowl but today he lost everyone!

Not sure how many times I've heard opposing fans say that "Tennessee has the most delusional fan base".

I am starting to believe they might be right. Every off-season I talk up our imovements. And then every year I am brought back to reality in a fashion I usually have a hard time comprehending.

My fear after the Schianomo was that it was going to come back and bite us, as things tend to do with Tennessee. Well, obviously there's no telling how Schiano would have done here, but we can't argue back right now. Pruitt is looking like an atrocious hire.
My anti schiano had nothing to do with football. He's a solid coach

Yeah it’s still possible to make a bowl. But not much else. And that of itself is not a good year in year two. A very small step forward.

Puts everything on next year, when the schedule is much harder.
