Recruiting Forum: Official Indiana State Pre-Game/Game Thread

This. It really blows my mind that anyone would argue against this. Before this game did ANYONE say "I hope our starters play until the last drive because they need the reps"? Nope! We ALL said "get a big lead early and rest the starters". At this point it's a huge stretch to defend the substitution decisions.

I don't see anyone really arguing against this. I think we are nitpicking over WHEN they should have come out of the game today.

Florida last year Malone catches a short pass and houses it. Guess it defines how you define short. Callaway does look like a different playmaker.

I'm talking like a hitch or curl route. He didn't have to stop and start back running. All other short passes outside of that one ended wherever they were at.

He'd probably have made some mistakes, yeah. But ISU wasn't coming back from down 28 lol and Ignont needed experience more than Jumper.

And if he'd given up an 80 yard TD then the narrative would be "I can't believe we gave up that many yards to ISU, Shoop should be fired before he left the booth."

People here complain about anything. We could go into Bama undefeated and lose by 3, playing both QBs and they would complain and say we would have won if we played the walk on QB from Greenback.

SO taking the O down the field to tie the game in the 4th QT. that eventually led to a W against a good football team isn't good enough? Throwing 221 yds no INTS and 2 TD in his first ever start isn't good enough? Maybe your expectations for him are so high he will never meet them. JG didn't look any better in his first game. Not tying to argue with ya just trying to understand why so many are so impatience with QD. Seems some hope QD fails. Not saying you are saying that just some who never give QD any credit no matter what he does right.

QD's strength is the passing game because he isn't mobile. But he has not thrown many good passes if we're honest, and he has thrown off his back foot a lot and has a really bad problem staring down receivers. That's all. Yes, I'm appreciative of him winning the game for us, he did some good things in the 4th. But, he threw up a glorified punt that Callaway made a play on and the rest was Kelly on that drive. It isn't like he turned into Peyton and drove the team down the field with pass after pass to win

Who gives a damn about the narrative, man? Some young guys needed some experience and some starters needed a rest.

If the coaches are leaving starters in because they're afraid of VN narratives, then they're sealing their own fates lol

See its all how you look at things. It was perfectly place for him to make a play on it. Peyton wasn't mobile either. All I am saying is QD has had 2 starts in his career with a new OC and really young WR. Give the guy a chance. If JG takes the start from him down the road because QD doesn't get any better, I will be backing him just as strong. For now QD is the starter and I for one hopes he shines and becomes one of the best that has come through UT. I hope that for every UT QB that takes the field as our starter.

Who gives a damn about your opinion, man? lol. What you think is important others may not. That's what makes them opinions. I think the importance of putting Ignont in there to try and figure out where he was supposed to be lined up when six guys shifted into a different alignments, something he'll likely not see again is way overstated. It would of done him little good but to give you guys something else to ***** about when they scored another TD. If he were going up against a team that ran a similar offense to what we'll face down the road, I would agree.

Oklahoma winning at Ohio St playing a lot of young guys yet we can't get ours in the game in the second half against ISU....what are you thinking Butch?

Yea, have a hard time understanding this. You'd think they'd have a substitution plan, rotating a lot of players. If risk aversion was a factor in gameplanning, you would think keeping your players as fresh as possible would be a factor. It's common knowledge that tired players are more likely injured.

You posted this ^^^^^ after the GT game. So now you don't think it's important to keep the starters fresh?

We certainly have some players on defense that are not playing great at this point. Our ability to set the edge is not where it needs to be along with a few other things. But everyone does realize on a short week against a vastly inferior opponent we just sat in a base 4-3 almost the entire game. No blitzing. Straight vanilla. Does that mean we def see a great D against UF, nope. But we will scheme and blitz and do much more on D against UF. Those gameplans allow for Shoop to be creative and earn his paycheck. Excited to see how we look next week.

They didn't play 90 plays today.

You're contradicting yourself. You already said Jumper needed the reps. So now the reps would help Jumper but the wouldn't have helped Ignont? Psshh

We were playing Indiana State man.....

And? You hung on to Justin Martin long after everone else recognized his short comings yet QD has 2 starts and 2 wins under his belt and you continue to rag him. Hell you apparently didnt even need to see him play before you determined he was garbage. You've been saying it since last season. I'm beginning to wonder if you are fos about your hobby of working with db's. It's as if he banged your gf or something.
