'18 Recruiting Forum: Official Missouri Pre-Game/Game Thread

Ok...but this wasn't one of them. They got the crap beat out of them because they didn't block, cover, pursue or tackle worth a crap, not hecause the coaches had a bad game. It is just dumb scapegoating bullcrap.
You’re right I don’t think this was one of them, however I also don’t think this was Heltons best game either

I think Pruitt knew after Mizzou’s first two drives we weren’t gonna stop them enough to win and thats why he kicked the onside. It was only a matter of time before Mizzou stopped stalling in the red zone

This forum is more level than the other. I got ripped to shreds for suggesting that JG would have kept us in the game better than chryst

It was a combo of players and coaches that sucked today, but the coaching was so bad it put the players in more difficult situations to make plays. After the win last week and it being Senior Day - they all should have been amped up to play. They weren't. If the players are truly hitting the S&C hard during the season like they did pre-season, that alone could explain the inconsistency. They were slow to react to everything on both sides of the ball and ST. Coaches that cannot motivate players to give their all more than one game in a row are not getting it done.

Helton was back to being good for half a game when it really didn't matter. Pruitt's scheme and calls were really, really bad. I have no idea how either of them thought this was the way to approach Mizzou. It was the exact opposite. Once the D tired some it was over. Our only hope for next week is that Ole Miss beats Vandy badly to remove some incentive to make a bowl. The coaches need the bowl as bad as the players so they have more time to get their acts together.
I 100% agree.

No way was JG going to last the season taking the hits like he was. Praying he's good to go next week.

Also, if I'm a player and my coaches are not hammering those refs for the blatently one sided calls, I'm questioning if he's got my back. There was a double standard on late hits today. Mizzou was dirty as hell and was getting away with it.

It’s one game in which he played fine for half of it. Lol. Do i need to show you the game vs Florida that JG played?
Lol!! You are still defending KC? Get out of here with that trash! Today made it very clear that there never was a QB battle. The coaches have been playing the right one the entire year.

Coaches are either good football coaches, or they are not. I do not think they sucked today...but you keep on scapegoating them if it makes you feel better.

Fahr em all!..is that how it's done?
And you keep throwing the players under the bus. Let's not touch the guys making millions.

These coaches are rookies for the most part. First time head coach, first time coordinators. They've got a lot of growing up to do they've got a lot to prove before I buy in.

I was thrilled when reed knocked that number 7 next week. Some puss said no one should be glad he was hurt. My 12 year old said if you play dirty then you get paid back. Glad he’s knocked out. Mama said to knock you out.

We could have won with JG, better player execution on both sides of the ball, and if Lock didn't decide to play great today. He was dropping some dimes today, that he hasn't been doing in every game.
Lot of ifs there.

I’m a JG stan but he wasn’t making the difference in that game.

They had a good QB, a balanced offense, and a good defensive line. I never thought we were going to win it.

I don’t think that was a winnable game even if there was a perfect game plan.

We don’t have a defense that can compete against a good QB. We’ve known that forever.

Agree for the most part. Lock was strong today. However, there is one stat tells me the players and the coaches are rarely truly ready to play any game. They've scored a total of 13 points all season during the first quarter in 7 SEC games plus WVU. Slightly more than 1.5 points per game average against quality competition. Meanwhile those same 8 opponents have scored 78 points for nearly a 10 point average. We both know what that does to the stamina of a defense with poor depth at most positions. Got to get those guys off the field. We lose time of possession nearly every game. We saw what happened when the O played better in the first half against UK.

I’m not defending. He played fine half the game and bad the other half. I’m not declaring an opinion after one game. It’s cherry picking. Just like i was cherry picking when i said i could show people the UF game. The way our defense was playing i don’t even think dobbs wins that game so it’s irrelevant

Chryst missed open throws and threw terrible interceptions. Against a terrible secondary.

One of his biggest gains was a ball that hung in the air like a punt and Calloway just stood there waiting on it.

Yet you deflect and defend him, while critizing JG at every turn.

Everyone sees right through you, Hank.

Pretty sure he called for fair catch

Lol i said that JG had a lead in the qb race and would be our starter. I said Chryst did better I’m scrimmages. I also said i don’t like any of the QBs we have including Chryst.

Chryst has played fine most of the time he was gotten a chance. Against Alabama and against Missouri for some of the game. He was bad the other half.

Yea I wasn’t sure because I never saw your comments on the position battle, just everyone always says you guaranteed Chryst or whatever.

As they are every year. At the game the boos were loud!

They don't miss blocks, botch tackles, get burnt in coverage, or get bulldozed like gnats.

It was a bad matchup that I thought we would lose. And no..you're right JG wouldn't have made a difference in this particular game other than the margin of defeat. But I do think with better effort, and good fundamental play like they had against UK, and if Lock could have one of his occasional off nights, that there was a decent chance to win.

When does coaching come into play? Are coaches not responsible for fundamentals. Do Mizzou coaches not get credit for having their team fundamentally sound? Or do we allow the coaches a scapegoat that the players just didn't do what was asked of them?

I'm not saying the coaches are soley at fault but they bare the responsibility of having the team prepared mentally, schematically and physically. They failed in all three phases. And Pruitt admitted it. Giving the coaches a pass 11 games in the season is probably not thinking with an unbiased mindset, Imo.

These guys have all been praised for being good teachers long before they ever got to UT...so excuse me if I think the problem is the students sucking at learning football, and not the teachers teaching it, especially not when you honestly consider the proclivities of some players on this roster of not giving much of a isht...You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
