If we win this game it will be a massive accomplishment imo...we will not only have to defeat a very good team on their field, we will once again have to beat the SEC officials....gird your loins for another massive screw job with them letting Mizzou physically assault our DL with impunity.
Guess we’ll find out what is most important. Continuing to make us pay for being too good too soon, or making sure GA gets another top 10 matchup after having their schedule ridiculed all preseason.

Missouri features a much improved team this season but lacks any real quality wins. Basically, they are Kentucky over the past decade. Their best win is over a 6-3 Kansas State team which isn't bad, but they are not beating anyone with a pulse either. Sure, they played LSU and Georgia tough, but ultimately fell two scores short in both games, so wake me up when you are ready to impress me. Dooley had a ton of close games too.

The trouble is, this game comes down to match-ups and Missouri has the tools to carve up a suspect Vol defense. Brady Cook is very good at QB and Luther Burden, the consensus 5* WR from two years ago is all that he was billed to be. Although he is a little banged up from the game against Georgia, he will likely not be limited at all.

On the defensive side of the ball, Missouri is solid in run defense, but that has not meant much for Texas A&M or Kentucky when facing the Vols. I look for Tennessee to continue to do what they want. They are somewhat less effective against the pass and Missouri defensive backs play very physical so officiating will play a very large part in this game. If it's a fairly called game, there should be an over/under of 2.5 PI calls against Missouri, but we've seen how this goes.

Prediction: The past three weeks have me feeling like the Tennessee offense has hit it's stride. Regardless, I have nightmares of bad quarterbacks lighting up this defense, and Brady Cook is the best the Vols have seen yet. The DL will need to keep constant pressure on Cook to keep him from picking them apart. This has the potential to be a low punting, high scoring game where the last team with the ball gets the win. I think I'm going with that.

The OP made a comment that concerns me. I’m afraid Mizz will be able to make contact with our WRs and grab jerseys beyond five yards. All I ask is for the refs to be consistent.
And the book on us is to neutralize our excellent pass rush by hold every play because Birmingham never calls it as a matter of policy and thus endorses and encourages even more holding. It deprives us of our biggest strength on D while putting enormous additionsl pressure on our weakest spot.

This has turned a sport into a new type of reality TV where crooked officials are the stars.

In a fairly officiated game we would win.

Hard to bet against an early thread by Nick!!!

I'm having a difficult time understanding "vols suspect defense".

#22 in ppg allowed
#14 in rpg allowed
#45 in passing ypg allowed
#30 sack % rate

Yeah I know we can go third and banks and not look aggressive at times, but to call this defense suspect is difficult to understand. Especially with how the statistics have improved yearly. Our offense has the ball a fourth of the time in most games lol.

Sorry for my rant, but I'm just very happy with how the defense has played this season. Cook may light us up, but our defense has been pretty solid for us. Other than Leary, we shut down big time passing receivers like leggett and smith (a&m). Hopefully we can do the same to Misery receivers and get the W.

Passing defense is the concern for me

100%. Unfortunately, there's alot of people who don't think for themselves, they just jump on the negative bandwagon and regurgitate what other fools say. Facts are like poison to them....it will kill them if they accept them..

Good analysis, nick. Thanks for the efforts you put in. IMO they are UK without the element of surprise that Leary was on O. UK had a bye week to prepare, Mizzou had a tough week on the road at Athens. Now they have to play our high octane O at uptempo.

The negative is that Banks always shizzes the bed a couple of games a season with his game plans and in-game adjustments. I'm betting this year it was UF and UK.

So, I'm going a little different direction this week. When Heup and Banks know in advance what to emphasize they have been good at it for the most part. They had extra time to strategize ahead with the easy week against UConn. I do not see Mizzou as capable of adding much in the way of "wrinkles" to either side of the ball due to talent disparity and Drink being who Drink is. Banks and Heup have to spy Cook. It does not have to be the same LB each play, just make sure he is accounted for in the designed runs and scrambles. The added benefit is they keep a run oriented LB in the box against their RB. Spy Cook, give the CB some S help over top with Burden and play man/quarters. The secondary is starting to develop some depth with young guys. Mizzou cannot stop our O consistently, it has found its identity. The officials will probably be more neutral in this one because B-Ham wants a big UGA/UT marquee game the next week as they plot the UGA/Bama SECCG. I see ...
