Recruiting Forum: Official Oklahoma Pre-Game/Game Thread

Haha! Man, I've been here a VFL through the WORST times! THE WORST!! This isn't the worst. I'm not giving up on these players or the season. I didn't say that I'm not watching them play anymore and not going to support them. I said it might be time step back and stop investing so much time on this board. As I said, I love you guys! I love the passion from our fan base and we deserved that win last night. I love seeing complete strangers give their hard-working money to help a fellow Vol fan in need...LOVE IT!! There are very few fan bases, like Volnation...very, very few! Butch has to prove he can win a big game before I return to Knoxville for another big game. Last night's loss is completely 200% on the coaches! They lost the game for their team and their fan base...we deserved experiencing a huge win last night and the coaches ripped away from us. Unacceptable, IMHO! Butch had better start considering tweaking his offense and strategy when he gets a big lead on a good team.

I can understand not spending as much time in a message board but not going to games anymore is what I was referencing.

To try and make me feel better I can't help but think about OSU's first game last year and them getting completely manhandled by a much inferior opponent at home. Now I'm not saying we are going to win it all but at least our loss was to a much better team.

Big difference. Ohio State has the best coach in the country and we have a glorified recruiting coordinator.

What I'm saying is how does the best coach in the country lose at home to VT with all the talent they had? The thing that worries me the most is this wasn't the first time something like this has happened and if it will change in the future.

I don't think I can go again and invest the time, money, stress, and time away from my family, until Butch can prove to me that he and this staff can get it done in a big game. He gets another chance in 2 weeks in the swamp. It may not be a great Florida team right now, but considering the streak, on the road, 1st SEC game, etc, it's a very big game for Butch and this team. It's time to win big games. We have the players to do it...just win...no more excuses.

Your last sentence is the key. Butch is a bad in game coach who doesn't know how to handle a lead. Until he proves otherwise there's no reason to think he's going to change. I won't predict us to beat a single good team on our schedule until he showed that he'd capable.

A little unfair.
51-3 when leading at halftime and 51-4 when leading after three quarters.

Florida (last year) and Oklahoma . Still he has two since he has been an SEC coach so yes he needs to prove it in the SEC.:good!:

Vandy 2013. We've only beat teams we could out-talent since Butch had been here, which is why I think that stat is a bit misleading. Every now and then he showed flashes (UGA and USC), but overall his in game decision making had been poor. He had to improve if we're ever going to consistently win.

This loss hurt me more than any other.

This sounds dramatic, I know, but I spent the past few hours contemplating Tennesse football and it's place in my life, and I'm questioning it all. The amount of time and emotion I invest in it isn't healthy, especially when I get seemingly so little back.

I'm tired of booming for recruits and watching the team/coaches still choke away huge wins. Tired of checking this forum and Twitter religiously every day for a new glimpse of hope and getting the same results on the field.

None of it matters when we still lose games like this. It's painful. It hurts me to my core, way more than anything that doesn't directly involve my life should.

I think I'm done for a while.

Wellbye.gif

Totally agree

Forgot about that one. Got to prove he belongs in the SEC.

This is what I was afraid of the most with DeBord coming here. A yes man to Butch when Butch's balls shrink up cause he has somewhat of a lead. Another OC would have stepped on the throat of OK when we had the momentum. But not those guys. It was just sit back and hope we don't break. Absolute pathetic coaching. I've honestly always hated this offense. This is not a WRU offense. Azzani coaches a scheme, but they rarely get separation. The constant rotation is stupid and playmakers don't get the ball when most needed. I see no difference from last year in play calling. Conservative, boring and highly predictable. This loss falls directly on Butch and his offensive crap scheme. When he was hired, my first thought was oh hell I really hate his offense. It's been showing it's true colors now the past 3 years.

Imagine Hurd, Kamara in a power I. They would dominate. Obviously with a better OL. North across the middle or a go route. Pearson, Wolf, Pig, Malone, Jennings, Smith playmakers everywhere and this scheme does not utilize them. Get them the ball. It's that easy. Very very sad to watch. Felt horrible for the fans at the game. They did their part, the coaches did not. We deserve so much more instead of agonizing losses when we have the lead, momentum, home field advantage and then the coach steps on the breaks. Saw enough of that during the Fulmer years. Butch royally screwed up last night. This loss kills cause we had this one won. We can't beat ranked teams. We've proven nothing yet. We're still irrelevant. We have no respect until we win some big games. More than just one in a season. We need a few.

The Florida game is where Butch's season stands. We have the talent to win it and break the streak. Do that and earn your respect. The conservative approach never works and he's failed two years in a row now. Use the talent and get the wins or that talent won't be coming here too much longer. Big fail on the coaches. They gave that game away. Now let's see how they respond with more important games the rest of the season ahead.

I have very little confidence we can win at Florida. They still have a 5 star defense which will put 8 in the box and force Dobbs to throw. We have no passing game.

I'm sorry for the negative connotation towards our coaching staff and all. I've sat back and read this board for years and the negativity and dead horse beating that some spew on here is annoying, but this staff deserves every bit of criticism they get for this one. Last night could have, should have, and would have been special for these youg men had they been given an opportunity to do exactly what they were capable of. They were denied that chance, and so here we are once again on a Sunday morning. Upset with the coaching staff, calling out players, calling out one another. I'm just so bummed out and can't logically come up with a reason why I and many others continue to put ourselves through this tirade. I don't post often, or very rarely at all you could say. I'm guilty of letting my emotions get the best of me, hence I try to keep my opinions to myself. This week I felt was the changing of the tide. Everyone felt it, you cannot deny that. The best vibe on campus since 06 without a doubt. The best crowd since that season. We absolutely brought our best, the team for the most part did as well. Leave it to the staff to wet the bed on such a big night on the biggest stage. When does it stop??? Seriously. I've spent thousands in coin and an insurmountable amount of time I can't have back. Took my nephew to his first game yesterday. He is 12. He was riding high on cloud nine all week. He got to high five Hurd, Dobbs, and Butch at the Vol walk. He couldn't say anything when he entered the stadium from the concourse. Just speechless. What a long walk back to the car. Kid was so let down. I hurt for him more than myself. We've all been there, but this was his first heartbreak. He's watched the replay twice already today. One thing I can say, he is a tried and true Vol fan. Knows how to keep torturing himself. I've officially joined the Hubbs camp. I won't believe anything til I see it myself

You misunderstand me. I'm not talking about giving up on the Vols. I'll never give up on the Vols. I'm talking about giving up on the staff.

In my mind there's a big difference. I didn't have a problem with the team. They were playing hard and were ready to blow Oklahoma's doors off. Their coaches decided to play scared and let them, and the fans, down.

If we can't beat Florida in two weeks I feel as though I will have enough evidence collected to be done with the coaching staff. That doesn't mean fire them if we lose the game or fire them this year or any such nonsense; I'll just have what I need to feel confident that this bunch on the sidelines won't ever get us over the hump.

The last paragraph is spot on. Butch and this staff HAS to win against Florida...it's a must win game IMO. If he loses that game, things will start getting ugly with this fan base. Beat Florida convincingly and last night will not be remembered as much, but certainly won't be forgotten.

True, but the tide is turning. One bad game doesn't change that. If anyone thinks we are going 5-7 this year, ala Dooley, I'll put down some coin on that action.

Hopefully there's enough to cover my bet too because I'd load up.

Last night was awful. I was there. Absolute nut punch. There are plenty improvements to be made all over, particularly in coaching.

But if you watched that team and how they play, can look at the talent of a large number of the players that have been brought in, and can consider some of the culture changes that have been made and still think you are watching anything close to resembling a D. Dooley team...

then I honestly don't know what to say.

I hope the players are better than the fan base. I would think you are better than this OG. I think some of you need to step away and only come back once the VOLS are winning. But, it won't mean as much to you as others cause you quit after a two OT loss. I am mad and upset but would not want to miss the experience of being a Vol fan. So many people would have loved to been to this game and do not get the privilege to do so. Some of this is shameful. Just back away from the keyboard.

People will deal with the loss as they please, stfu with your preaching.

It's a message board so you can shut up with your preaching. If you want to quit going to games then you are a quiter. Some of you sound like you need to be football mommies so you can cry with each other and whine like participation trophy kids. Most of you never played the game and it is telling when you post this cry baby crap. Don't ever yell the cheer where it is great to be a Tennessee Vol because you share how miserable it makes you.

Anyone that has put up with this sh** for the past decade has the right to complain anyway they see fit. At least we are still here showing passion.

Complain ..........sure.........did so myself about certain things but go back and look at some of the crap and some but did not say all is shameful. That is my opinion on this message board. The thing he said to stop preaching was in regards to not going to games anymore ect. If that is true and you don't want your tickets, I know plenty of people who do not get to go who would love to have them and enjoy what is a wonderful experience in Neyland. Honestly, if following this makes anyone miserable and sick, then you really should not do it. If that is preaching so be it. I think it is good advice. I try to avoid things I hate.

If we lose, we will hear all the "Butch can't cut it" talk.

If we win, we will hear all the way too optimistic talk about the rest of the season.

I think I will wait until the end of the season to judge the results.

Having said that, I have a good feeling about the Vols today.

Looks like I was right!
