Recruiting Forum: Official South Carolina Pre-Game/Game Thread

I do agree, SC is better than some thought including me. The problem I feel we have is that when teams start stacking inside to stop our run, our OL just isn't talented enough to overcome it. Not even a few breakout runs. Now I do believe that Darrel Hall and Jack Otes are going to be great OL for us.

Throw deep early and stop that nonsense. We wait too long to take shots. I bet if we start taking shots on drive no.1 or No.2 we'll hit on them. Teams aren't letting Hurd beat them.

I don't disagree. We hit that one big play action to Pearson for the touchdown early then stopped. Keep that up and keep the defense guessing, and they don't get a chance to sit on the run.

I will say, it's hard to not just keep running when we're eating up yards like we were.

Wins like this are a good thing in some ways IMO. Lots of b!tching points for Butch to harp on this week. At the same time, lots of opportunities for reflection for the coaching staff. There are certain situations in which this team consistently struggles or fails. When they fail once or twice, I look at players making mistakes. When they fail repeatedly, I look at coaches making mistakes.

For example, this offense gets the ball with a lead late in the fourth, it can be trusted to go conservative with runs to Hurd or Dobbs and it can be trusted to come up short. This is a situational deficiency on the part of the coaches, IMO.

I'm not judging; I believe in this staff. I'm criticizing. They must correct this flaw. It has put them in position to lose four games this year, and we are now 2-2 in those situations. Must fix this.

I wish we had a real QB coach on staff. Fire Mahoney, let Debord be OC/OL coach, hire a QB coach. Seems too obvious to me.

Again - agree completely. The QB position is critical. Debord compensates for an inadequate O-line coach. He is not a QB coach.

Malone's drop and Kamara's fumble were huge.

South Carolina didn't make many mistakes until the last play either.

Our offense has got to stop spotting the other team a touchdown. How many times has that happened? Georgia, Kentucky, SC, and who else?

Or heck, maybe they shouldn't stop. We won all three of those.
:dunno:

Well from someone at the game a couple of observations :

1. We were extremely lucky to win that game.

2. We were severely outcoached tonight on both sides of the ball.

3. I'm typically not a big conspiracy theorist but this officiating thing is making me want to put my tin foil cap on. We get screwed every week.

Told the guys at the country club yesterday to take SC and the points. We were due a let down game and SC is playing hard for this coach. I thought we would win by 10-14 but whew. Glad we could win a close one when things weren't going our way.

Also every team has these. FL vs Vandy today, Bama vs Ole Miss. You just got to hope you win these. There always a game or two where you play down to your competition.

I agree that we were outcoached, 3rd Q especially, but Elliot needed to make a statement tonight. A status quo loss does him no good and a blowout loss doesn't hurt him. He was playing with house money against a team with a ton of injuries and a wet field, which is a major equalizer when there is a talent disparity.

Nobody got my Darrell Hall and Jack Otes joke? I am hurt. :dunno:

I have saw uglier wins , did in our 1998 championship season. A Win is a Win, stop complaing, the team did what it need to do to win.

The ugly win of the day was Florida beating Vandy. That was a ugly game. Period.

Exactly. The UAB game that year was in question until late.

No one will remember that.

Butch better retool his staff. Next year is it for Dobbs, Hurd, JRM, North, Barnett and on and on and if we don't fix some of this incompetent BS then it will be it for Butch also. His staff was outperformed by an interim with half the talent on home turf tonight.

Eh, a win's a win. There are close games won by good teams all through the season. As long as we win the games we are supposed to, I don't care how it looks.

Agree with everybody - glad it was us getting the W in an ugly game for a change.

But what was Jancek thinking in this game? He created mismatches for USCe instead of for us along with not isolating Cam on Cooper. I'm sure Randolph's stupidity hurt things. Points out a major need at safety next season. Still not sure Evan is a defensive guy.

Then there is the usual Jekyl and Hyde on offense. Well, successful on that play. Don't need to run it anymore. Next, let's make Dobbs do something else he doesn't do well again.

The O-line needs work. They got whipped in the second half. Mizzou's D-line is even better that USCe. USCe has a better offense than Mizzou, though.

So much for being one of the lesser penalized teams.

Glad that one is over. Three more to go. Will take a W any way they can get it. Need 8-4 to keep the trends good for Butch as well as to keep the players pumped.

The OL is so banged up. Need to get Jashon and Dylan healthy for the Mizzou game.

Love you man but had to throw this one up

He was right...it shouldn't have been close. This game should have been in hand by 3rd quarter. It baffles me why we stop running the plays that are working. We did it under Jake and now under Debord. Kamara was killing it getting to the edge in the 1st quarter...the only time he touched the ball in the run game after that was getting it between the tackles. He is dangerous with the ball in his hands and Butch says every week after every game, that we have to get him more touches. Yet, we don't get him more touches. Why??

I saw a Peyton Manning led team lose to Tiger High...not almost lose...LOSE.

Once. 10-1 the rest of the year. Tonight was damn near the 5th double digit lead blown in one year and this time to a team that whipped our ass much of the game with half the talent. I've been a Butch defender all along but now I hope he hires some help.

Fumbling didn't help his cause. Hurd didn't have the same success as he did early either. Just trying to throw some things out there. Dobbs was sufficient throwing the ball. Drops hurt. And just when I thought Malone was building his confidence...

Yes, but we play teams with talent. We have had 4-5 straight seasons where the OU's and Bama's and sometimes UF were blowing us out. Look at the big picture. The talent is there- now they just need to find ways to win.

I just wish Butch would be honest about all of these injuries. What are they, and how long will they be out? So many didn't even dress tonight.

Calm down Nancy. He was coach of the year after last week and now we need a whole new staff. I guess UF should retool their staff since they barely Vandy who is the equivalent of a jv high school team. Week to week football in the SEC. is tough and ain't pretty. Thought our D grew up tonight at the end of the game.
