Well there you go.

Butch says Evan Berry to have more of a role on offense

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Safety/kick returner Evan Berry also had to get stitches after taking a cleat to the face at South Carolina. He’ll be fine to play against Tennessee Tech, and Jones, when asked about his one play on offense on Saturday, said that Berry’s role with the offense will continue to evolve throughout the season.

2.5 seasons into his time in the program, and Butch may finally see it. No telling how many times he could have provided an offensive spark when they needed it. I knew it the first time he returned a kick. It was confirmed after I saw how he responded on D. He thinks and reacts like an offensive player. Why sit a suburb athlete/player behind first team safeties when he can star on offense and break open games?

Butch is doing the same thing with Byrd. He would be star at CB - which is a big position of need.

Kinda low don't you think. Kelly may get 200 Saturday. He's dynamic as a runner. Averaged 6.7 yards a carry Saturday. Had 91 versus A&M in back up action. Plus he's playing the worst team on the schedule.

Having watched our offense play the last couple of games, no, I don't think it's low at all. I would love for you to be right though. Who knows, maybe this team will re-focus and play it's best ball from here on out. There is always hope.

is it safe to say that after 3 years, Butch is completely incapable of putting our most combustible players in position to create big plays ?

How much more of a baseline do we need before we just realize Butch can not scheme big plays into our offense?

Now you've gone and done it. I have been there for two years, Jay. I don't know what he sees with players. Evan Berry is a S because his big brother is a S? Did he watch him in HS at all? Clearly an offensive game breaker. Always has been. But he maybe doesn't like his long stride according to GFW awhile back. So he would rather the guy be a back up on D because he has a long stride? I call BS. All of this LB talent developing under Thig with two DC's that have coached the position and we see Jumper out there. WTH? I saw those guys in person in camp. Probably the least talented LB is starting because he supposedly can get them in alignment (except when he doesn't), but the other 8 can't? BS again. Byrd is a star CB in HS and wants to play the position in college. Let's move him to slot where we might use him 3 plays a game. More BS. He's a legitimate 4.29 with quickness and extremely strong legs that would drive WR's crazy. Gauden is a S, period. With him TKJr and Warrior in rotation you can sit back and watch fun happen. Again, more BS. I could go on and on, but will just stop.

Then there is zero understanding of situational football. The passing scheme is ridiculous. Even he has to know Dobbs cannot read D's by now. So change the stupid scheme to where he looks at #1, #2, then run like Tee Martin. Nah, force him to do it badly instead. Can't use a lead blocker, not just for Hurd, even for Kamara and Kelly. That would be bad. The play calling is like every play is scripted until the 4th quarter. I am so frustrated with it all. I hate squandering talent.

They won't move on him for a couple years unless he Dooleyizes the rest of the season. Clock's ticking.

Other teams don't want him with the ball and you won't give it to him. 😎😎😎😎😎

Exactly. They do everything they can to keep him from getting the KO. So you decide you need to help them with that by eliminating him getting on O as well. smh....

FWIW, I love talking football with you two. We may not always agree on everything, but much respect for your opinions.

I 100% believe that if Byrd were on defense our fans would be whining about him not being on offense where we would need his speed at WR.

Let them whine, Ziti (I agree FWIW). Callaway is a better, quick enough, more physical receiver that could be there if Butch would let him. He does everything Z asks him to do and works very hard.

You are also in my good poster list, FWIW, for the same reasoning as above.

The only thing I'll say to that is, Byrd is contributing 1-2 plays a game whereas on defense he'd be an every down contributor possibly.

Yeah, but what about all of that elite blocking on the perimeter?

Should have moved Hurd out there like he wanted. He could block better than any of the receivers. As a matter of fact we should switch Mahoney and Z. Z teaches blocking better than Mahoney and Mahoney teaches how to get off blocks better than Z.

That's why someone new needs to be brought in to run the offense.

Kinda crazy that so many fans are having to hope & pray that Butch makes significant changes with the way he runs things 3/4 of the way through year FOUR.

He is what he is at this point.

I was believing, and the only thing keeping me hanging on is the injuries (defense gutted) and Dobbs has been horrible sometimes. i want to see JG and Shoop's D healthy.

I would have to agree that a lot of CBJ's personnel decisions are bizarre/ questionable. I've always told myself that there has to be at least some bit of information we are missing that makes the decision more acceptable, but it's odd nonetheless.

If Butch was a more open minded guy, I feel like the future would be much brighter and players would be getting used better. I hope that he can finally step his stubbornness back a bit so that he can be the coach that takes us over the hump.

Yes. Not a lot of people still on the fence about him. Most have decided he's the guy... or not the guy.

Barring a miracle, Butch is not the guy and I think most of us realize that. Maybe in other conferences, but not the SEC. Hell his response to concerns in the press conference was talking about becoming bowl eligible for the 3rd year! Whoop de freaking do Butch! We were supposed to be in Atlanta this year if not more, not getting excited about a Belk Bowl appearance. He's done some good things and has worked hard. But he's too prideful and stubborn. It's his way or the highway it seems. He better take a good look at everything and everyone he surrounds himself with because if he doesn't make major changes- it's over. And I don't know if I trust Tennessee to finally get a big time hire.

Depends on who gets hired as the A.D. If it is Blackburn, I think he would knock the replacement for Butch out of the park.
