I 100% believe that if Byrd were on defense our fans would be whining about him not being on offense where we would need his speed at WR.

No man Byrd is so dangerous when he gets that ball in his hands. He is right where he belongs on the O side. Hoping we see him get that ball in his hands more this Saturday.

That's the problem. We have him over there because he can be so dynamic with the ball in his hands, yet don't find ways to get it to him.

He's better on defense than he is on offense

Let me add to this...

Same thing with Evan...find a way to get him the ball on offense and make plays. Not only is he fast, he's very strong. Run the jet sweep to him more, maybe some screens, even line him up at RB and run the read option with him. He can come out of the back field and catch a swing pass and turn it into a huge play.

Based on what? Fans hope?

He is at WR because looking at the depth chart he was going to make more of an impact there this season. If Cam doesn't get hurt, our fans would be crying about Byrd wasting away on the bench while we could have used him at WR.

Based on my opinion.

Based on him dominating the AA game on defense.

He can do things with the ball, clearly. I'm not saying he isn't a good player on offense.

I'm saying, based not on fans hope like you brought up, but his high school film that he would have been more successful on defense.

He might move over to defense next season. My guess is that coaches looked at the depth chart and decided to put him at WR and I don't blame them.

Monday morning QB's want him at CB because Cam has been out and we've struggled to replace him and we immediately think/hope that Byrd is the sure fire answer but we do not know that to be true.

Every good athlete on our team would be better on defense than on offense because our offense is a dumpster fire coached by an old swim instructor. Has been for two years.

We have some absolutely miserable sacks of excrement in this "fan"base. If the shoe fits, wear it on your way TFOH.

That guess is not exactly how it happened. We know from media reports that Martinez fought for him internally to be in his secondary and lost so he is on O. We know from Tyler's comments he would rather play CB. We know from HS and AA game tape that he excels at CB. We know from his physical ability/measurables/physique he would excel at CB. We know there are other competent receivers that can play a position that gets 2-3 touches a game while blocking the rest of the time including the actual starter (Smith) this season.

So the vast amount of evidence indicates he needs to play CB, especially with Cam and many other defensive players going down early in the season. Butch can right a wrong, if he will.

Haven't seen much on here about TN Tech's HC Marcus Satterfield. Since he is a Greenback boy and married to a Sevier County (Seymour) girl, this has to be a big deal for him going into Neyland in his first year as a HC. He did a really good job for Matt Ruhle at Temple. They probably cannot stay with the Vols for more than a quarter, but hats off to Marcus and his future career.

To be fair he is just beginning too get worked into the O. I think he will be getting the ball more in these last four games. And also, we will more than likely have JG at QB nest year and Byrd would have a year learning the O system. He is getting some good experience this year.

Im trying to stay interested in this season. But instead it's turned into another year in a long line of disappointing ones.

The pessimist in me thinks there are some inherent flaws in Butch's core philosophies (on offense specifically) that he's in denial about. He's starting to remind me of Les Miles. LSU fans complained for years that Miles would not adapt his offense and called for his head after he continually underachieved. The fans that were doubting him early on and called negative were eventually proven right over time.

I don't know if Butch is the guy or not. Maybe the Shoop system can really blossom in year two. There is still a ton of talent on this team for the rest of this year and next. We can still finish this season strong and win 10 games. The schedule is not that daunting. We just have to come together. Can Butch adapt? Can he pivot midway through the year and turn this around? I honestly thought he should have made a point and fired Debord this week. I hope they both prove me wrong. But I'm all out of faith. It shouldn't be acceptable. But we as fans kinda get the sense that it is acceptable in his eyes. And that's unsettling.

This team has let the air out of the season unfortunately. The program is in need of a spark. It's not too much to ask. Be bold. Let the team have fun. Why so tight all the time? Why so fumbly and undisciplined? Its not good football. So many avoidable mistakes.

I'm gonna watch us play tomorrow and hope for the best I guess. Go Big Orange forever either way.
