I want Hurd chipping him all game. Let us pull Jack Jones for a kick out or two as well.

Run at him directly. We need to use the Pistol this week for sure. We actually gashed Georgia with it. Auburn had success running Pettway right into the teeth of A&M. I don't think they near as complete a team as us.

Thanks for the good work, nick.

Some may not like this. IMO there is little doubt this game will be won by the best performing coaching staff that day. Our injuries have somewhat leveled the playing field and we are on the road in a tough environment. But it is no tougher than the one they just played in. So it is Sumlin/Chavis versus Butch/Shoop. Both Sumlin and Butch control the offensive schemes. Debord and Mazzone receive direction from their bosses, although each play call the game. The scripting that starts each game has Butch's input and approval. That scripting this season has stunk. There is no reasonable argument to counter that statement. They are telegraphing the plays and scheme in the first half as was accurately pointed out by Will Overstreet and others on Sports Source yesterday, in addition to some posters on here over the last several weeks. In other words they have been counterpunching all season after first seeing how D's react to the plain vanilla before opening up the O. In contrast most programs, even the elite ones, do the opposite. Especially when they have 3 All SEC - future NFL type players out for injuries on D. IMO that has to stop now. Today. Especially against quality programs and on the road. Butch needs to assume that all the good fortune has been used up. There should be no more expectations for being bailed out by a one in a hundred, thousand, or million shots of being successful.

We all know Chavis. We all know he will bring a wrinkle that is unexpected. We also know his weaknesses. It is critical that there be balance and no obvious tendencies in play calling to counter what he will do - which is extreme pressure on Dobbs. Once you get past their D-line studs, aTm is average. Dobbs must be 300/100 with a wide open attack. It is time to stop shielding him from hits. Our O-line is set and Thomas is much healthier giving them more flexibility for adjustments. There are quality back-ups at QB that can complete the season successfully after the Bama game. The SECCG should be assured after UF takes it on the chin one more time - which they will. So take the stupid handcuffs off this O for an entire game, coaches. Not going to delve much into the overly conservative play calling with leads issue. Just going to say this. Until it changes for good, just assume it will always happen. Butch and staff have always been about mitigating negative plays over making the big play. Doing so creates excessive fear of failure, which is not their intention. That is OK when you have a bunch of newbies out there. It is awful when you have proven performers.

This may be unpopular as well. The last UGA TD pass was probably because Martin was unavailable to play CB as well as Shoop having the wrong coverage package in the game. First off, 3 deep coverage in that situation, coach. Second, call a TO to set your D for the long ball. Not standard 2 deep in that situation like you were in. That would be true if Eric Berry was in the line-up. There are 19 seconds left in the game and 47 yards to go. Third, Moseley or Martin would have been on that coverage had Martin been available. Less likelihood of a nickel d-back playing CB peeking into the backfield. If Martin was in coverage, based on historical performance he would have run into the receiver for an incompletion and a PI than he would peek into the backfield on a deep route. He also has better recovery and jumping skills. No problem on a PI - 10 seconds left in the game from the 32 yard line. Set the D while the penalty is being marked off. So, Shoop has some personal work to do which includes player selection and coverages used. Martin was out, I get that. But an additional safety over top was available along with a TO to set the D.

It would be nice if JRM or Kirkland were able to go. We are getting killed at LB. There is no honor in making tackles well past the LOS and getting blown up by blockers. If this is all we have at back-up somebody needs to learn how to develop the position because there are some really physically talented guys sitting the bench that were highly sought after coming out of HS. LB play will be critical in containing Knight's runs/scrambles and their RB's.

Butch - Trevor Daniel pooch kicking from the 34 yard line with Medley on the sideline? Really? Did George Halas or Vince Lombardi teach you that? He needs to build confidence and make any adjustments for the stretch run. The odds of a pooch working from there are bad. Either kicking it into the end zone or shanking it have higher odds. The odds say the ball ends up around the 20. Which is nothing in today's game. Your analytics chart needs modification.

Prediction:
UT 38
aTm 24

Butch/Debord/Shoop were rudely awakened from their slumber Saturday. Time to play 4 quarters for a couple of games. After that you have enough to win by playing half a game again along with a week off to get some guys healed. Keep getting better and smarter.

We were in Cover 2 Man. That was not 3 deep at all. Abernathy just jumped a post route instead of sitting back.

Their running game scares me. That back is really dynamic, plus knight as well. It will be pretty close, and I'm not ready to predict yet..

A&M's offense isn't nearly as efficient as it should be because of Knight. He's only completing 55% of his passes this year. They may have the best WR group in the SEC, but it doesn't matter as much if the QB can't reliably get them the ball.

Need to cover as well as we can, limit the missed tackles, and force Knight to be a pocket passer. DL needs to dominate from the first whistle to the last. Getting a healthy JRM back would really help.

On offense, agree with the chatter: hit Garrett on every play, run it right at him, spread the ball around when they stack the box. Their secondary is overaggressive and will give up big plays when the pass rush doesn't get to the QB. So Dobbs has to be at his best, buying time to throw accurately downfield and gashing them with his legs when he sees a crease. It's a lot to ask, but he's rolling right now. No more drops!

Tough game to call. If UT finally plays for the entire game, they will beat this team. But if they sleepwalk through the first 30 minutes again, they will lose and there's a chance that they even get blown out.

Tell them to stop a more dynamic backfield. Also Knight hasn't been hit yet. Remember he's a different QB when he's getting hit. Always has been throughout his career. Time to send the message.

Need to contain Knight and put a spy on him. Make him beat us with his arm and pressure him all day.

Take away Jennings great catch and we'd all be talking about that dreadful punt from Georgia's 34 yard line and the gutless play calling on our last offensive drive before Georgia's TD.

Butch and Debord need to let it all hang out from beginning to end and I don't see them veering off from their extra cautious on the borderline of fear play calling.

Take away Hurds mistake and 2 questionable PI calls that extended drives in which Georgia got points, AND the illegal forward of the fumble recovered by Eason in the endzone... See we can do this all day.

Looked like he jumped it because Gaulden was beat too (by #16). Not a big fan of the play call in that situation. Corners playing that close to the line and only rushing 4.

I'm just not ready to see this team lose a game yet, and I don't think the team is ready to lose either. A&M represents a brand new challenge. The guys may have taken UGA for granted a bit considering they beat them last year and the Dawgs looked pretty bad to start the season.

A&M will have their full attention. Butch's message this week needs to not just be SEC East, but playoffs. If they win on Saturday, they are essentially one big win away (SECCG) from locking up a spot in the playoffs.

If we get down double digits in the 1st half like we have our last two SEC games we will get beat. IMO there offense is way too good for us to come back from double digits. With that said..our 6th game we finally play 4 quarters of football and we prove to the nation we are legit national title contenders. Vols 41-38

Man, if we could get Kirkland and JRM back this week I would feel a lot better about this week. Having their speed and skill would go a long way in keeping knight and his scrambling ability in check

I mean what do you want a blitz in that situation?

We were getting there with 4 guys easily. They held bad on that play to keep Eason clean. There was another safety to help on that post route. Abernathy can't break that early and Foreman can't give up position. Cover 2 Man has one weakness and that's a post thrown on a rope to a WR that wins. Eason wouldn't have been able to put any air under that ball with Kelly on the other side.

But if we blitz there and don't hit home you all would be complaining that we should've been in base. Which we were and Foreman really didn't do his job completely.

Wouldn't it be ironic (don't you think), if UT has the ball late, down by 1 score, sees 3rd and Chavis, and goes on to win the game.

That call was the worst of both worlds. I'm fine rushing 4, but play your corners a few yards off when realistically the only thing that beats you is a home run there. Only rushing 4 AND playing press on the outside didnt seem like a good idea at the time or in hindsight.

I agree abernathy shouldnt have broken, but at the time he did, gaulden was in worse position than Foreman.

I'm not as worried about McDowell and Jumper this week as I am for Bama. They both play ok in space and seem to fill lanes correctly. But they both lost almost every physical battle they had this weekend. I dont think A&M is that physical. Bama is a whole different story tho.

Reporter - Juan, when did you know Tennessee was going to beat A&M?

Playing press with safeties deep is fine. That's why the pass rush is hitting home. Barnett got held to death on that last play.
