‘23 Recruiting Forum: Official Texas A&M Pregame/Game Thread

First game I have been able to watch since the first one. Been dealing with friends and family with cancer and heart attacks. Plus trying to get to my granddaughter’s game. When I have gotten on all I managed to read were posts downing players. Not wasting my time with it. Was hoping there would be a few celebrating that defense!! Great running game also.
Best wishes for you and your family.

Joe isn't great.

He doesn't have any flow to his game and he struggles with improvisation.

However, he isn't the worst and he's made a lot of plays for us. Our receivers are not great at all and if he had last years core he is likely significantly better. O-line doesn't give him much time. He won't be great, but if our WR core can be better for him and if our o-line can give him more time the rest of the way he will play a lot better than he did today.
Ya, he's an average qb all things considered. Elite physical ability, bad mentally. Can't have bad OL play and bad wr play with an average qb.

But you can't expect every QB to be the eraser of all the other positions deficiencies like Dobbs and Hooker were. Sometimes other positions have to carry their own weight.

great win.
its cool to like an ugly win but reality is, this is how we've played all year bc the QB play is Sub-par.
what chance to you give us to beat Bama and Georgia with zero pass game?
Was a great win. I can’t remember the poster that called it as going to be a nail biter. BUT great win because we did. It’s apparent we’re not going to have the season we did last one, and it’ll a be nail biter going forward the more we get in the deep SEC play.

To be fair, Rees winning with Milroe isn’t a great comparison. Milroe is a better passer (not saying good, just better than Joe) but more importantly Rees is working with years of top 1-3 recruiting classes and CJH recruits are just now getting started.
Highest blue-chip ratio in college football and same record as us.

I'm not putting the woes of the passing game entirely on Milton's head. His WRs are doing absolutely nothing to help him. These guys can't separate from coverage and drop easy passes; forget about the tough ones. Losing Hyatt, Tillman, and McCoy has hurt our passing game just as much as losing Hooker, imo.

Disappointed that Thornton has been a nonfactor. Keyton finishing this game with zero catches is equally frustrating, and the dropped easy TD was infuriating. I don't really like the way we're using Squirrel. He seems to be almost exclusively a screen guy with an occasional deep route mixed in. Linebackers have their hands full with our running game, and Squirrel would kill in the space they vacate over the middle. But we haven't tried to use any of that.

Hope we can find something in the second half of our schedule here. We're 5-1 and I don't want to be too bitchy after a good win, but our offense is leaving a lot of meat on the bone and needs to improve.

Great to see you. I get the goobers that blow their wad the first time a player makes a mistake and then forget they’re kids on a big stage. Defense and the running game won that game tonight. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that. That can’t be easy, but you’re missed and we all look forward towards when you can slow down and post. Anything any of can do for you? You’re family.

Well you managed to miss about half the post because I saw more celebrating the D than downing players. But there’s always going to be them.
And all post not done through orange colored glasses is not downing players , it’s realistic discussion and opinions.

I understand the thinking behind it. Could very well ruin some potential in a rush. Different world in football now, but even Peyton struggled with the speed and intensity of the game in his true freshman season…and he had been preparing since birth. He was WAVES better as a second year player and I believe even moreso if he could’ve observed Jerry Colquitt.
You're right...not going to argue...it's just frustrating as heck. I think I've been really patient with Joe all year...but the frustration is really starting to get to me.

The drops are not all on him, but I am beginning to think his untimeliness and lack of touch on so many throws is also effecting the WRs...they have zero chemistry. We see guys that have proven to have good hands dropping passes over and over...it's weird.

Late to this. Yes a lot of us are frustrated at Joe’s play in week seven. It’s not going to be like last year with Hendon. This isn’t like the ‘years gone by’ where you do the next man up on QB. We have to suck it up, wait until next year to see what we have with Nico. We got spoiled quickly by last year and now have turned into the ‘I want it NOW’ fanbase.
