‘23 Recruiting Forum: Official Texas A&M Pregame/Game Thread

I understand the thinking behind it. Could very well ruin some potential in a rush. Different world in football now, but even Peyton struggled with the speed and intensity of the game in his true freshman season…and he had been preparing since birth. He was WAVES better as a second year player and I believe even moreso if he could’ve observed Jerry Colquitt.
Late to this. Yes a lot of us are frustrated at Joe’s play in week seven. It’s not going to be like last year with Hendon. This isn’t like the ‘years gone by’ where you do the next man up on QB. We have to suck it up, wait until next year to see what we have with Nico. We got spoiled quickly by last year and now have turned into the ‘I want it NOW’ fanbase.

Come on...there is nothing wrong with us wanting at least decent production from the QB. I expected a lot of drop-off....but I never expected THIS much drop-off.

I love Joe and I want him to do well...I just don't think he has it in him though...just too much evidence at this point.

I agree. What’s really concerning to me is the kind of mistakes he makes. Like not throwing deep on a free play when the D is offsides.

Running out of bounds just short of the first down. Throwing into double coverage. Constantly overthrowing WRs.

Just no awareness at all. Not much progress in his development. Not what we want from a 5th year senior.

Where did you get all that from my post? The only thing I was saying, today’s game is different and as much as fans are clamoring to put Nico out there, you don’t do it. We have to suck up this year and move on to next and see.

That’s right. He’s got to improve, or there’s just not a good argument to play him (outside of maintaining team chemistry, I suppose). He’s not even protecting the football the way he used to.

Yeah but like was stated by the broadcasters, that interception that Joe made is something a true freshman does not a 6th year senior / 2nd year starter.

They made multiple comments like that during the game. Joe isn’t the answer and he hamstrings our offense and doesn’t help our OL. When guys aren’t afraid of the pass the clog the middle.

Hence why I believe our OL was actually elite tonight. They created run lanes all night and kept us from getting sacked a ton. While almost always giving Milton a clean pocket.

There were multiple times where Milton just sat completely flat footed with all the time in the world to throw.

My opinion is Nico who (may make some mistakes) creates a threat in the passing game and would keep teams honest to where they can’t just pin their ears back every play.

I’m with you on this.

Jaylen Wright definitely helped the OL with some nifty moves to get extra yardage.

The OL was good other than the holding calls by Ollie Lane.

While I did scream for him to throw it, there were several times where he had little time and no one was open from the back camera angle.

I just don’t agree that Nico is automatically better. It’s not that simple. If Joe makes 5 mistakes, Nico, as a freshman could make 7. That’s the difference in a win or loss.

We need to run a few more designed pass plays that Milton doesn’t have to think about. The drop by Keyton and the TD to Warren were great play calls. We actually had a couple of 20+ yard throws where PI should have been called.

Next week we are going to see 8 in the box all game. The only positive is Bamas qb seems like he would score single digits On the wonderlic. Their team isn’t the same this year. He took it upon himself to throw an Incomplete pass when they should have taken a knee last week. Then the oline had a false start trying to run clock today.

Next week will be the special Olympics of quarterbacking.

Joe's not good. They are trying to protect him.

Like that we matched up physically with A & M. Joe lowered his shoulder a few times in the 2nd half. On to Tuscaloosa.
Joe knocked the middle linebacker out of the game. We see why there arent many routes run through the middle of the defense too. Hate alabama week

Wow good win, Vols!

I’m about sick of our hurry up after a big play only to run for a 1-yard gain. Offense is frustrating with Milton at the helm. But man no receiver is getting separation.
My son and I were discussing what we do after a first down. Run to the line and run the same play, run up the gut for a yard. Why not save everybody the trouble and just mark the ball 2 and 9. 😅
