Recruiting Forum: Official UGA Pre-Game/Game Thread

The confirmation bias is strong in here. Arguing the '94 turn around by what Manning and Fulmer became, not how they appeared then. Coach Jones is in a tough spot. Others have responded positively. He probably won't get the chance. But feel hearkened. This is the argument I always make on the eve of a firing. :)

I've ot seen anything from JG that makes me think the offense will be any better.

He did step up in the pocket once and he scrambled for five yards. QD underthrew all the WR's on EVERY deep pass with NO pressure. Bringing in JG with one minute in the third Is not fair. Develop the young guy cause QD is horrible. He looks like he is trying to touch everything and has a noodle arm. I would rather lose with the younger guy. Mee were down 31-0 when he came in. We have not developed our talent. D was put in horrible position all day by offense and they eventually broke down. Butch is an O guy and the HC and this crap is his and stinks so he owns it. He's got to go. He was given enough time but losing 41-0 at home to this Georgia team is not acceptable. His scheme does not work on this level without an all world QB. This is it for me. I want him sent packing in the morning but it will not happen.

Gave you a little bit of a hard time on here Bass because I still believed. You and all the people stating that Butch and QD sucked were absolutely right. My apologies. That was embarrassing.

My apologies for going on about it too much. I'm just very frustrated right now.

A lot of coaches would have started JG first series in the second half. I was surprised that this didn't happen.

Context. Manning was a true freshman third stringer who was forced into action after the first two QBs went down. Of course him and Brandon Stewart were going to get better as the year went on with a coaching staff that were proven winners. There is really no basis of comparison between that situation and this one.

I really believe that Currie will go all out for Chip. Hopefully he'll come. I think Currie wants to win. If he fires Butch soon that will prove it

To me it looks like a bad start and an epic blow out from a perennial rival. I remember '88 when the Vols started losing their first 6 games and then won 16 of the next 17. Teams and coaches can turn it around. It doesn't matter how much fan vitriol there is.

Again a bad comparison. Majors was a known quantity. Less potential of guys giving up on him than on an amateur like Butch.

We fired our DC after 5 of those 6 losses in a bye week too.

I don't disagree with any of that. All I'm saying is I don't think we win many with either. They both are not very good. I blame Butch for not having a QB coach for most of his tenure and hiring a retread when he finally does.

LOL, only the facts. A worse start. A shut out loss to a rival. It's not exact but you guys who want more spontaneity really have it in for over-analysis as well as rampant speculation. Everyone get's that CBJ has an up hill battle but the future can not be mapped with certainty.
And Tennessee coaches and teams have recovered seasons and teams with worse starts to a season.

Not to you as a poster but F this type of thinking. Fire his azz before midnight.

Totally agree with this. Player develoment especially at the most important position is horrible. At this point, play the younger guy with more potential.

False equivalencies.

It's like saying "Saban lost seven games his first year and won a natty year two, so why can't Butch win one in year two?" After the 2013 season.

They are not false. You are using a retrospective argument with Saban as well. The point is that Fulmer and Majors had worse starts to seasons and turned it around. There is no way to accurately metric coaching performance. Yes there are differences and yes Majors and Fulmer have proven themselves in the annals of Tennessee football in a way CBJ hasn't. You can rationalize differences all you want but part of the trial by fire in coaching is meeting these challenges. While you may be right that Jones has not earned the opportunity, the circumstances of the situation as to the nature of losses and worse records contribute to the weight of an equivalence. Just because your insistence doesn't mitigate the similarities showing some equivalence.

Time will tell.

Come back and tell me equating Butch in 2017 to Fulmer in 1994 isn't a false equivalency 2-5 weeks from now when Butch has been fired and we're hoping to hold on for bowl eligibility.
