Recruiting Forum: Official UGA Pre-Game/Game Thread

Time will tell.

Come back and tell me equating Butch in 2017 to Fulmer in 1994 isn't a false equivalency 2-5 weeks from now when Butch has been fired and we're hoping to hold on for bowl eligibility.

Fulmer finished 5-3 in the SEC, 8-3 for the year and at 22. I think I have been clear about the standard all along. I am not holding the future out as fact. That's all. If the performance isn't similar for the year it's obviously not an equivalency for the year, but 1-3 and 31 point shut out loss to Florida is not good.

The primary difference in attitudes of posters/fans toward Butch from Day One until tonight has been their tolerance for his and the program's inadequacies. Some will go down the rat hole with him. Others have experienced various lightbulb moments when they realized he's not the answer. Some of them have later decided to give him another shot (like me), that he needed to grow as a HC and learn. Others have known since the first press conference he wasn't the guy. Add in the hype from UT and the media, followed by the hatred from the media over time.

Most everybody knows by now he ain't it. Our lesson is to not buy into the BS and hype no matter who they hire. Make them earn it first.

Are you sure on the 8-3 part? I know we lost to UCLA, Florida, MSU and Bama. Beat VT in the bowl.

Yea, this crap of giving these coaches instant equity is over from me. I'll believe it when I see it from now on. I'll trust my gut. My gut told me from the beginning it was doubtful Butch would succeed but I ignored it.

I honestly don't get what kind of point you're trying to make. Fulmer had a bad start his second full season as HC. Ok? Good coaches have bad starts to a season sometimes.

Doesn't change the fact that there are mountains of evidence pointing towards Butch being a bad coach that weren't there for Fulmer, Majors, or any other example you wanna put forward.

Almost everybody felt like we had just hired a guy who would win 8-9 games a year. That was my thought. Of course, at the time I thought that sounded great in comparison to where we were.

But we also thought he would be an average recruiter and a solid gameday coach. I would actually prefer that right now, to be honest. He'd probably be doing quite well if you knocked his classes down by about 10-15 spots in the rankings but improved his coaching and staff hires.

It's a really bad analogy.

You want him gone. I get it. You have your reasons. I get it. Because you are blind to what I present doesn't necessarily mean it's not there. You could be right about the future. Sorry your taking it personally. I am looking at the data around the beginning of seasons including bad losses and what is in the realm of possibilities. If you can't accept these plain items of evidence, well so be it. By the way Coach Jones' fate is not in my hands. I don't like the loss. As with all speculation past results do not guarantee future performance. It's a standard reasonable disclaimer for going all in.

Edit: I also cited the 1988 season.

someone GIF me a pic of Ron Paul behind a bent over Butch Jones.

After he showed his ability to recruit I thought maybe he could do something. Then I saw some coaching snafus and thought he's gogg a way to go but he can learn. I never thought he would be this bad and really never learn anything. He's raised the program from the ashes, but the longer he's here, the more it tears down what goods he's done. He built it brick by brick, now he's tearing it down brick by brick.

Same here. My antenna went up when he claimed he had the best staff in America coming from Cincy. Then he passed on Chaney and Pittman. That should have been enough for me to know it then. I had watched a half dozen games of his CMU and Cincy teams to know they were just good systems for those levels of competition.

Chaney and Pittman just helped Kirby turn Butch into their *****.

It's not that I'm taking it personally. I'm just really trying to understand how one can equate the situations of Majors/Fulmer in 1994 and 1988 to this season.

I'm not blind to what you're saying, just throughly unconvinced by any argument you've made for the situations be similar.

Fair enough. I do think it is important at this point this evening to follow my lead and return to some hearty facetiousness. The trial of Butch Jones will continue.

This is where I am. I just want see us come out and play good, disciplined football for entire (or most of each) games.

I could deal with a coach who doesn't quite bring the juice in recruiting that Butch brings if we got that.

I get it. It's pretty disappointing the offense tonight showed no up-tick from the UMASS game. Same plays, same results, save the wildcat which really did nothing. I'd like to see a spark this season given that the games will obviously be played.

BS meter went off in the opening presser when he claimed BigEast championships in which in all cases he lost the tie breaker and never received the BCS bid and I believe one was a 3 way tie.

Do you think Butch is gonna right the ship?

I don't know. If the offense doesn't get a passing game immediately it becomes increasingly unlikely. I think the D has enough to compete with a competent offense.

where do you live? The Enchanted Circle or something

There certainly would not be a better time than this weekend. Peyton and so many big donors are in town and felt the full brunt of the backlash this weekend. CBJ was booed this morning when he was walking to the SECN set, GameDay roasted him and fans were yelling "Bye, bye, Butch" at the game. Currie and Haslam haven't come out in support of CBJ this week and the UT party line all week has been "We want to win." Big at-bat for Currie.

What do you mean by the UT party line?
