I'm not sure what message you're trying to convey with this gif.

After we whip their a** Saturday we need to do the old politicall stand by chat for Muskrat, "Four more years, four more years, four more years." Bet all VOLS, Dem or Rep can get behind that. Lol.

I'd like to see more slant passes. If Pearson returns from injury next week, he would be perfect for that, IMO.

This is what I don't understand.... I was under the impression that the passing game in this offense is modeled after the West Coast passing style... stretching the field horizontally with quick passes, but have layers or tiers built in. Say you have a guy running a drag across the field at 5 yards deep... you might have a guy running a 12 yard dig behind it and a post route deep. Stretches the field both ways...

Same idea with slants. Have guys running slants.on the same side... inside guy clears for the outside. But I don't often recall seeing us complete many slants, digs, drags, square ins. Maybe bc they don't think the line can block for that stuff to develop?

I dunno... maybe someone with more knowledge can give more insight.

The thing is that slants don't take very long to develop so if our O-line provided even adequate protection we could run a ton of slant routes. But I understand what you're saying. Just trying to understand why this staff doesn't run more of this and more of that.

I'm like you though, maybe with someone with more knowledge because the last thing I am is an expert.

Lots of times on slants the o line will try to cut block the d line's legs... it is a natural reaction to put your hands down to avoid the cut block, opening passing lanes for the QB to throw those quick short routes... but I don't recall much of that either.

I doubt it's because of the line. These are the same plays we saw last year.

Honestly, I can't explain why we do not use the middle of the field more. We throw a lot of quick passes, but almost all of them are to the side. Hitch routes, curl routes, flat routes, spot routes, etc... The few times we have used slant routes they've been successful for us, but it's rare.

Against Georgia's cover 2 and 2 under the middle would've been a great place for us to attack. Pig's touchdown catch late in the game just came on a seam down the middle vs cover 2. Wolf had a handful of catches on seams.

I think a lot of us are seeing the same thing. We don't attack the middle of the field enough. But I really don't have the slightest clue why.

1:54 here is an example of how this play could be successful. Downs clears out the flat defender with his post route and Croom is wide open on the slant.

FYI, Driskell gets the last laugh. While looking for a picture of him, there are several of him and his girlfriend.

Good Grief.
