Not sure we get 40 but 30 should be enough as long as we take care of the ball and defense plays like they did against UK.

Hey it worked last week! Seriously, I predict the following.

UT - 34
Mizzou - 24

Mizzou's defensive line concerns me. Their defensive ends are very good. I know our O-line has improved and we don't have a statue at QB anymore, but I still feel they can be very disruptive in the backfield.

Yep. Match-up that decides the game IMO.

It's more fun with numbers!

6 teams (UGA, USCe, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mizzou) have played each other and this weekend, Mizzou and Vols will complete the cycle. We know it will be a strength vs. strength matchup.

Thought it would be interesting to see how each teams have fared against common opponents and what Mizzou's O and D have done vs equivalent O's / D's that look like ours.

I know, tldr, so here's the summary of both teams' projected production using Offensive stats alone:

Mizzou: 70 passing yards / 70 rushing yards / 1TD
Tenn: 225 passing yards / 115 rushing / 2 TD

Stats for reference:

Passing:
Vols 271 Yds / 2 TD per game / 0.8 INT
USCe 258 Yds / 1.6 TD / 1.3 INT
Georgia 216 Yds / 2 TD / 0.5 INT
Kentucky 208 Yds / 1.2 TD / 1.8 INT
Florida 121 Yds / 1 TD / 1.8 INT
Mizzou 103 Yds / 0.5 TD / 1.3 INT

Rushing:
Florida 233 Yds / 1.8 TD per game
Georgia 232 Yds / 2.4 TD
USCe 184 Yds / 2.6 TD
Vols 176 Yds / 1.8 TD
Kentucky 146 Yds / 1.6 TD
Mizzou 113 Yds / 1 TD

Mizzou passing game looks most like Florida's, their rushing looks worse than Kentucky's.
- Florida put 76 passing yards against us, 37% less than their average
- Kentucky put 94 rushing yds on us, 35% less than their average with 1 TD
In a like-for-like world, Mizzou puts up 70 Yds passing and 70 Yds Rushing and 1 TD against us.

Conversely, Tennessee passing numbers looks most like USCe. Vols rushing also looks most like USCe.
- USCe put 219 passing yards / 1 TD against Mizzou, 16% less than their average
- USCe put 119 rushing yards / 1 TD against Mizzou, 35% less than their average
Expect the Vols to put up numbers like 225 passing and 115 rushing, 2 TD's against them.

Here's a look at numbers from the defensive angle:

Again tldr so in short, using defensive stats alone, here's the projected numbers for this weekend:

Mizzou: 140 passing yards / 50 rushing yards / 0 TD
Vols: 300 yards passing / 75 rushing yards / 3 TD

Passing Defense:
Georgia 164 Yds allowed / 1.4 TD allowed per game / 1.2 INT
Mizzou 173 Yds / 1 TD / 1 INT
USCe 178 Yds / 1.2 TD / 0.2 INT
Vols 192 Yds / 1 TD / 2 INT
Florida 224 Yds / 0.8 TD / 1.2 INT
Kentucky 245 Yds / 2.8 TD / 0.8 INT

Rushing Defense:
Florida 89 Yds allowed / 1.2 TD allowed per game / 1 Forced Fumble
Mizzou 141 Yds / 1.3 TD / 1.5 FF
Georgia 195 Yds / 2.2 TD / 0.2 FF
Vols 197 Yds / 2 TD / 0.75 FF
USCe 233 Yds / 2.8 TD / 0.6 FF
Kentucky 239 Yds / 1.8 TD / 0.4 FF

Vols' passing D looks like USCe and our rushing D looks like UGA's.
- Mizzou put 132 passing yards / 0 TD on USCe, 26% less than USCe passing defense average
- Mizzou put 50 rushing yards / 0 TD on UGA, 74% less than UGA's rushing defense average
From this, Mizzou puts up 140 passing yards and 50 yards rushing, 0 TDs.

Mizzou's passing D looks like UGA's, rushing D looks like something between UGA and Florida's.
- Vols put 284 yards on UGA / 3 TD on UGA.. 75% more yards UGA has allowed per game
- Vols put 28 yards rushing on Florida, got shutdown 69% less than what Florida allowed per game. Also Vols put 117 yards on UGA, 40% less than their allowed average.
Look for Vols to put up 300 yards passing, 3 TD's and 75 yards rushing.

So like-for-like comparisons from offensive and defensive statistics amongst common opponents in the previous post, we get:

Offensive view: Mizzou 70 Yds passing / 70 Yds Rushing / 1 TD
Defensive view: Mizzou 140 Yds passing / 50 yards rushing / 0 TD
Conclusion: Mizzou 105 Yds passing / 60 Yds rushing / 1 TD

Offensive view: Vols 225 Yds passing / 115 Yds rushing / 2 TD
Defensive view: Vols 300 Yds passing / 75 Yds rushing / 3 TD
Conclusion: Vols 260 Yds passing / 92 Yds rushing / 3 TD

Sorry for all these numbers.. just a long way of saying MIZZOU HAS NO CHANCE IN HELL OF GETTING CLOSE IN THIS GAME. We match up really well against these cats and Vols win BIG! GO VOLS!

Nice! The only difference really is that USCe has a better OL, and we have a mobile QB, as well as a better WR unit. Don't know how that makes things play out. Hope it makes our result at the end of the game a lot better than USCe.

We look eerily similar to USCe offensively against the same teams. We also look so much like USCe in the pass defense (yikes), but much more like the UGA run defense which I think would make the difference.

FWIW, Mizzou beat USCe 21-20 by scoring 3 Rush TD on USCe. Against an UGA type run defense? 50 yards, 0 points.

The stars have aligned for them in matchups the first 10 games this season.. a cosmic shift to change the stars is about to happen this weekend (insert Astro Dobbs pun here)

Eventually we will get to the point where 2 Excel spreadsheets will play the game and the actual teams won't have to.

Actually 1 Excel will do, but you can project the numbers quite closely if you have a large enough pool of the same teams playing each other - which is something the College Football Playoffs rankings can never do.

But I get you: Math is fun.. Watching football is divine

I was thinking each team maintained it's own spreadsheet and data and the team with the best Pivot table wins. :)

There are 2 concerns for me vs Mizzou: 1st - Randolph NOT playing the 1st half will be critical for TK and McNeil to NOT miss assignments because you better believe they are drawing up crossing routes to confuse our 2 safeties as we speak. 2nd: Bynum has been here 2 full years, so he should not have any excuses as to what he is expected to do, but I do think Jacob Johnson gets more playing time at the MIKE but how effective and confused he will be is the question: Mizzou coaches are not stupid and they will attack wherever they think they can cause confusion. BTW, Mizzou RBs are very HARD to tackle in space so I hope our defense tackles w/ their heads up cause they are very SHIFTY and ELUSIVE......
