Keeton is a Heisman candidate. This will not be a beat down. This is as close to a must win game as any we will see. Lose and we go 4-8, mainly because that would indicate we can't win the toss-ups (Fla. and Mo.). Win and we can go 6-6. or 7-5.

This game should show us if our coaching staff can "coach 'em up" or not. Am hoping for a blow-out in order to enhance our efforts for the 4-5 elite players still sittin' on the fence.

Forde's the first one to say in print what Ive been saying: Keatons a good QB with no surrounding cast, but most important his first game on a repaired knee. His mobility will be less than before and he wont be 100% mentally. We need to respect him, but we should go after him a beat him.

"Family Ties" is going to be in for a rude awakening when he gets to Neyland.

Keeton's stats are boosted by the amount of screens that they throw. Most of their passing plays are screens. This is one reason his completion % is so high. Im not saying he cant throw the ball, just that his passing stats are boosted by the amount of screens they throw. Its also one of the reason's that his attempt/INT ratio is so great. I really hope that our DBs are ready for these screens.

55-10 Vols

Our offense is going to put on a show. Our defense is going to show that speed we've been missing, making plays all over the field. It's going to be really fun to watch.

GBO!

If you read the USU football board Tennessee is about to face Chuckie Keeton who is the best QB in college football that's played in the past decade. But that's only half the problem as they have Fackrell on defense who may well be the greatest defensive player of all time in college football. They claim he's equivalent to 4 Reggie White's.
With that said, Tennessee 41 - USU 13

Dang Ron turned all NegaVol...why you think they score double digits? Or is that a 4th qtr TD against the walkons? :)

They don't realize what kind of storm is about to hit them when they walk into Neyland.

I saw the forecast calls for rain Sunday night. How do you think this will impact the game? Who benefits more?

It's probably negligible. Both teams run on the same field. Utah state may have more limited footwear, but it's not like they are playing in Chuck Taylor's.

The field will be pristine for the first game

Lots of running the ball for us, lots of Keeton scrambling for them. I'm trying to refrain from the orange tinted glasses, but it's too difficult to believe that starting a QB and a RB who both had surgically repaired knees will out perform our defense, no matter how young we'll be. If the roles were reversed and that was our starting duo in the backfield, we would be predicted to lose every game. Yet somehow the sports pundets act like they'll give us fits all game.

Ok, question of today:

One player who has a big game for the Vols.

Give stats and reasons.

Marlin Lane 150 yards, 2 TD

He will be fresh, uninjured, and Tennessee will rely on the run game and short passing game to open the season

Pig Howard 8 rec for 115 and 2 TD, 3 rush for 35 and 1 TD
(Finally found those orange tinted glasses!)

I like your pick. Maybe not 150 yds. I'll say Lane 120 and 2 TD's. Hurd will get carries to give Lane breathers, but if lane is running well, he'll get the majority.

And though not a player.....Butch Jones. I don't think he will take his foot off the gas this game. He knows the fans want wins and big wins where they should be. He'll let the boys play, even if we're up by a lot.
