Obama is not even consulting his cabinet as he makes all the decisions with his tiny group. At this point, it's all about getting Obama out of office.
The fact that he won't suggests strongly to me that he can't answer to my satisfaction, or to that of the voters. Which is why he is not disclosing.
It's a rock and a hard place situation.
What possible benefit would romney enjoy by letting the obama administration mention over and over again how much money he makes? And why can't we see obama's college transcripts?
It's about looking shady. If he releases them, he is a multimillionaire CEO who is paying a ridiculously low tax rate with money stashed all over the place on the heels of the financial meltdown. That isn't going to sit with middle class voters. Romney knows it. My guess is that it is much worse than the two he has already released.
Then again, that is hard to believe with someone who has been eyeing the Presidency for awhile. Who knows, maybe he is that dumb.
again, this is as much about the top line as it is the bottom. My guess is that people would be shocked, on the high side, to see the gross dollars in taxes the guy pays. Then the left would beat the guy down for making too much money.
And how on earth does the guy look shady without huge help from the lefty media?

He still will have paid approx 5,000X in taxes what the average american does. And why must it look shady? The favorable taxation of hedge fund managers and long term capital gains has been mentioned for years. Obama did nothing about it. Combine that with sizable charitable donations and we have a low tax rate. I'm sure his return is complex, but no one is stopping the average american from semi retiring like romney and living off capital gains. Well except money. I mean from a tax stand point.
What do you expect him to do exactly? Decide to pay full tax on capital gains? I'm sure obama himself doesn't do that.
‎The Other Side also has been hammering away at My Side to release certain documents that have nothing to do with anything, and making all sorts of outrageous accusations about what might be in them. Meanwhile, the Other Side has stonewalled perfectly reasonable requests to release its own documents that would expose some very embarrassing details if anybody ever found out what was in them. This just shows you what a bunch of hypocrites they are.
Naturally, the media wont report any of this. Major newspapers and cable networks jump all over anything they think will make My Side look bad. Yet they completely ignore critically important and incredibly relevant information that would be devastating to the Other Side if it could ever be verified.

That's the way the GOP is trying to mischaracterize it. Classic straw man. Claim the criticism is something you can defend, when of course its about something else.
The proof is that we already know Romney makes tens of millions a year.
The issue is his tax rate. No matter how much you try to make it about something else.
Ridiculous. His effective tax rates and gross taxes are plenty high. The problem is that the guy made 20+million last year and didn't work.
He worked.
He offset his ordinary income with various deductions and paid vast majority of his tax as capital gains.
He had about half his income at 34.2. Avoided that. Of course.
But he didn't work and still has ordinary income tax. Lamenting his deductions is for retards. He didn't write the idiotic laws. The idiots in congress made the entire tax attorney / tax accounting world possible. The return for paying those guys is enormous. He'd be senseless to avoid hiring top end advice.
Yes, but he symbolizes the problem in the tax code. Moreover, his refusal to disclose demonstrates that he knows it is not palatable to the voters.
It's legal. But it's wrong. And he knows it.
then why not target the tax code instead of those using it like it was written? You know your guy has had a few years to make all the changes he wanted and didn't. Wonder why?
We should target the code.
Problem is, Romney has given every indication he will lower taxes on the wealthy.

The idiots in congress didn't write them as much as the lobbyists did.
Still, this whole thing is stupid. It isn't about what his plan for America is, it's about what meaningless part of his past resonates with voters. The American electorate, if they base their vote on Romney's tax returns, get exactly what they deserve.
