That's an absolutely moronic statement by you. He already admitted to making $40 million-plus in the last two years. Its not about sheer size of income -- cat's already out of the bag.
It is about not paying a rate that most Americans would consider reasonable. Its about the Obama campaign being able to make Romney emblematic of the imbalance in tax treatment for the wealthiest compared to middle class voters.
've been giving this some thought. Who is likely Reid's leak on Romney's tax returns?
I think it has to be coming from one of two sources: 1) someone within the IRS has leaked it. That would be very bad for that person as I imagine that is a felony; 2) someone from within Romney's own camp let it slip somewhere that this is the reason he is not releasing returns and the comment has made its way to Reid. That could be a set up, but I doubt it as I would think if it were Romney would have sprung the trap by now.
Will be interesting to see whether someone comes forward and admits to being the source.

Most likely scenario: The source is Harry Reid's imagination.
yep. Looks like you've thought of every angle. Can't get one by you.Seems like a strange thing to just make up. I mean, someone like Arpaio on the Obama birth certificate, there are no repercussions to him. But Reid says I'm told he paid zero and Romney proves that wrong, Reid is crushed and Obama take a pretty serious hit, too, just by connection.
The longer this drags on like this, the more likely it seems it is that Romney paid zero, or effectively zero, in the subject time period.
He might have done it legally, but I think that the voters would be pretty unhappy with a guy making tens of millions of dollars in a given year and avoiding any income tax for that year.
It would probably cost him any chance he has at winning the election. It appears that this is why he is not releasing them.

Reid isn't going to get crushed. He's made all kinds of crazy statements in the past and has never faced any repercussions. The only way that Romney can prove Reid wrong is to release the returns, and that is exactly what Reid wants.
And what's the worst that could happen to Reid? He's not going to be sued. He faces a credibility hit, but he has very little credibility to begin with, and has never shown any concern over it.
The reason he hasn't released them is . . . You.
People such as yourself are concocting off the wall scenarios without having a clue what the returns look like. Can you imagine what the same people will twist if they have actual numbers to cook?
