Religious debate (split from main board)

I've heard two different schools of thought from Baptists. I would think that saying one can get their rewards on Earth instead of in heaven would be taking one verse and having it take precedence over several books, but that's just me. Obviously in Christianity one should pray, but praying like you are making a wish to Santa isn't likely to net you results.

I bet if he knew the fuss he kicked up thousands of years later, he'd laugh.

From what we can gather from the text we find that Jabez probably didn't have a father and his mother held a grudge against him because she named him pain. ( My guess is, not the pain of child birth)

So the kid is marked from the beginning, probably struggled and finally got to the breaking point and asked God to take over.

What is wrong with asking for God's blessings?

Time to stir this thread's pot.

Note the immediate claim that anyone who does not need believe as they do somehow gets tagged with being "God haters." Nothing could be further from the truth. I got it, everybody that does not believe according to the Rev and likeminded it's straight to hell for them. You realize people hold the exact same view of your collective seats in Hell because you do not practice religion as they do, correct? The religion thing has nothing to do with football, football players, or outcomes of games.
so many people will be so saddened that the gosple was presented to them and yet they rejected it. There is but one and only one way to Heaven and that is thru faith in Jesus Christ

excellent post....

The Bible says every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess to God for we all shall stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

When judgment day comes, it's too late. How sad it would be to hear the Lord say: Depart from me, I know not who you are.

That's the downside to being an atheist. Theists get to think, "boy, you are in for a rude awakening one day." Atheists only get to think, "boy, they'll never even know they were wrong." That's no fun.

And on that day some will cry out for the mountains to fall upon them or the Earth to open up and swallow them.

Difference between an atheist and a satanist??

The satanist knows who his boss is.

Never talked to a satanist, huh?

IP, this may not be related to your post, but your post gave me this thought concerning anyone who says they are a Christian.

If they find some sort of enjoyment, or satisfaction, at the thought of anyone will lifting up their eyes in hell for eternity, very likely they have never known Jesus. They are "as lost as last year's Easter egg" - as the old saying goes. Or they really need to study their Bible a little closer or move closer to God.

Part of being a Christian is having a real concern for those who are lost. It comes with the territory.

As a matter of fact I have.

They used to headquarter down on Ursalines St at the lower end of the French Quarter in New Orleans.

Amen to that.

It is not God's will that any man be destroyed otoh, nowhere is it written that a man must be saved.

The Bible also informs us that on judgement day there will be many who have claimed the name of Jesus but he will say; 'depart from me, I never knew you.'

The Church of Satan doesn't worship a supernatural force. It's more like a cult of people who worship themselves and "dark desires".

But since that piece of information doesn't fit nicely into your cultural narrative you weave for yourself I doubt you will accept it.

Interesting.

Why is it not called "The Church of Me, and Dark Desires"?

Jokes aside.

In the documentary I watch on the subject, many referred to "praying to" and "hearing from" Satan himself. Not really sure what supernatural means, but I would imagine praying to and hearing from Satan would fall into that.

Left-hand path or what ever you want to call it.

They don't believe in Satan, they believe the personality of Satan in the Bible is how people should live.

It could be described as an extreme counter-culture cult group.

We must be talking about 2 different groups.
