Van Helsing Series Picked Up By Syfy
Van Helsing, a 13-episode sci-fi series from Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell On Wheels), has been acquired by Syfy. Neil LaBute serves as writer/showrunner on the drama, a new take on the Dracula myth.
Van Helsing, which begins production in January 2016 in Vancouver, BC for a fall 2016 premiere, centers on Vanessa Helsing, the daughter of famous vampire hunter and Dracula nemesis Abraham Van Helsing. She is resurrected five years in the future to find out that vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is humanitys last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.
Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules, said Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures. The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.
Added Chris Regina, SVP, Program Strategy, Syfy,Van Helsing reimagines a classic story in a compelling new way, featuring a bold and complex heroine.
Van Helsing is produced by Nomadic Pictures. Executive Producers are Chad Oakes & Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, LaBute, Simon Barry (Continuum), Evan Tyler (Industry Works), Dave Brown (Echo Lake Entertainment) as well as Daniel March (Dynamic). Nomadic Pictures will distribute the series within Canada, Fallout Asylum and Dynamic Television will distribute the series (initial window) in the United States and Dynamic Television will distribute the series throughout the rest of the world.

Fargo Gets Season 3 Greenlight On FX
A little more than halfway through the second run of FXs limited series Fargo, the cable net has ordered a third season. Season 1 of the drama from creator Noah Hawley based on the Coen brothers 1996 movie won three Emmy Awards including Outstanding Miniseries, and the current sophomore season has been widely praised by critics. No cast or premiere date for Season 3 was announced, but executive producers Hawley, Warren Littlefield, Joel & Ethan Coen, and John Cameron will return.
The Blacklist has been renewed for a 4th Season by NBC!!![]()
The Blacklist now joins Blindspot, which NBC renewed for a second season last month. Both shows have been renewed a bit early, but considering the continuing popularity of the James Spader drama and Blindspot's high ratings, it's a logical move for the network.
In fact, Blindspot has now eclipsed The Blacklist as NBC's top drama. That said, the show continues to perform quite well for the network, with a 3.0 rating among adults and a viewer base of 11.9 million.
TNT has Renewed the The Librarians, Major Crimes & Murder In The First
TNT today has officially renewed adventure drama The Librarians and serialized crime drama Murder In The First each for third seasons and crime procedural Major Crimes for fifth. The Librarians, which is in the midst of its second season, has been picked up for 13 episodes. Major Crimes, also currently airing, will return with more episodes to round out its fourth season in February 2016. The Closer spinoff, as well as Murder In The First, have been picked up for 10 episodes to air in summer 2016.
The Librarians, Murder In the First and Major Crimes join previously renewed Rizzoli & Isles and The Last Ship. They will be joined in 2016 by recently picked up new drama series, Good Behavior and Animal Kingdom as well as the straight-to-series The Alienist as TNT is undergoing a brand makeover with edgier fare.
So I assume that means The Muppets won't be coming back.
