Rep. Giffords of Arizona shot

Glad to see that no one is jumping to the conclusions like the ones they claim the other side is jumping to.

I want to see his interviews with investigators. If he mentions Beck, Palin, or the tea party, those comments will be dismissed as the ramblings of a sick man.

Not if your MSM gets hold of them. They already blamed those you cite without those interviews.

FWIW, someone who likes the Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf... aren't likely to be big fans of Beck/Palin or members of the TP.

Several things about this thread disturb me: First, while this young man is really effed up, assigning him a diagnosis here is not appropriate. There are any number of psychiatric conditions that can make such behavior possible.

Likewise, determining a motive is inappropriate. There's really no telling what sort of thing his impaired psyche latched onto. From what I gather he may have had motives that conflict from a polical perspective. To call this a left-wing or right-wing crime is just not valid at this point.

Was this fellow inspired in any way by information from the political media? Can you assign any blame to Rush, Beck, O'Reilly, Palin, Malloy or Schultz? I don't think you can make a valid case for holding one individual, left or right for inspiring this crime. What I do believe is that the atmosphere fostered by these "pundits" (some of whom I agree with, some not) has poisoned our political system to a degree that is is dangerous to our democracy. Yes, political vilification has been the go-to campaign tactic as long as there have been elections, don't you think the citizens of "a light shining on a hill", the greatest country the world has known can do better than this? We need to at least assume that the folks on the other end of the spectrum are sincere and honest, working to bring about what they think what is right. Your President is not s Muslim terrorist, the Speaker of the House is not a Nazi that wants to destroy our society for the good of multi-national corporations. Most are acting sincerely upon what they believe. It is actually possible to run the country this way. Not likely, observing the level of rhetoric on this and most other boards I read, but possible.

I would say 80% of the discussion here has been even handed and is not assigning blame anywhere. A few have thrown out accusations and most are posting why those accusations are unfounded. For example, I've seen no one suggesting that left wing ideology is responsible for this psycho's actions.

Further, most of the posts surround debate of the issue (or accusation). I see nothing wrong with that.

last time i've checked. none of us have the authority to put him in a mental hospital

"find an ass to kick"
"get in their face"
"punish them"

quotes like these could definitely have gotten in the guy's head

My best guess would be schizophrenia or bipolar II. He is certainly in the age range for his first break. Just a guess, certainly not authoritative. I haven't seen anybody get too specific. They are just saying he is obviously mentally ill. I don't see anyway to refute that fact nor do I see anything wrong with discussing it.

In fact, there is plenty of testimony to date from people that knew him to suggest he was mentally ill.

There is zero testimony to date suggesting commentary from the right motivated him in any way. Yet we get endless claims that this is the root cause.

Makes one wonder why all these claims are being made.

I blame Generalissimo Francisco Franco and his untimely death

I'm going to assume you're joking.

It looks like I've touched off something.

Sorry, folks. But it's hard to ignore the obvious from the real world. There's an 800 lbs gorilla in the parlor, and he's ringing the bell louder than Anita Ward.

What is funny is I haven't even made reference to the political orientation, but everyone was quick with assumptions and moves to "create some distance." I wonder why?

Umm, because you scare us?

Pure comedy. There's a reason that you always hear people say something to the effect of "I'd rather not comment since the investigation is ongoing and it would be pure speculation." That guy didn't have the first clue what the assailant's political persuasion was and probably still doesn't know.

You're right. It is pure comedy.

Are you suggesting a law enforcement officer should not look at politics as motive for an assassination attempt on a US Congresswoman that left 6 people dead?

Are you really saying that? Really?

i see. so it is your belief that law enforcement officers should voice every potential motive that they are going to look into on national television?
